Air India plane crash: 125 DNA matches confirmed, 83 bodies handed over to families, says Gujarat Minister
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 17 (ANI): Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Monday confirmed that DNA samples of 125 victims in the Air India plane crash had been successfully matched, and families of 124 deceased had been contacted. The mortal remains of 83 victims were handed over to their families.
The minister visited the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Gandhinagar, where DNA testing of the deceased was being conducted.
The testing was being done by teams from the FSL and National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU).
Sanghavi praised the ongoing efforts, stating, '...For the last many days, FSL and NFSU teams are tirelessly working round the clock. Till 10:58 pm, 131 patients' DNA have been matched, and in some time, 6 more DNA certificates will be sent to the Civil Hospital...'
He added that senior officers of the police and FSL had been present till late at night every day to monitor the process.
According to him, teams had worked through the night for the last three days to ensure that DNA samples could be matched and remains handed over to grieving families as quickly as possible.
The Gujarat government coordinated closely with the Civil Hospital to ensure smooth communication between officials and victims' families.
Meanwhile, Efforts to identify victims of the recent Air India plane crash are progressing, with DNA verification completed for 119 individuals so far, according to Dr Rakesh Joshi, Superintendent of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.
Out of the remaining 43, the mortal remains of 14 deceased will be handed over by tomorrow morning. As time is running, people are also going through panic. We are receiving panic calls. As we are matching DNAs, results will keep coming,' he added.
The London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft crashed into a hostel complex shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12, killing 241 passengers and crew, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. (ANI)

Shillong (Meghalaya) [India], June 17 (ANI): Days after the heinous murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, the Meghalaya Special Investigation Team (SIT) said it is likely to reconstruct the crime scene of the murder. The murder scene is expected to be recreated by the SIT team at a parking lot in Sohra in the presence of the accused Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raj Kushwaha, Akash, Vishal and Anand. While speaking to ANI, Raja's brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, made a strong appeal for a narco test on the accused, stating that their behaviour during the probe raised doubts. 'The way Sonam and Raj are misleading the police is shocking. Once a narco test is done, it will be revealed how much Sonam is lying about it. How all the accused are lying indicates that they may know more about the murder... I cannot talk to Sonam's parents yet. Why haven't they made any statements through the media? For instance, Raj claims Sonam has been typing Rakhi to Govind and him for three years. Doesn't her mother know this? Police need to question her parents. Why have you all hidden this from the media and police?' he told ANI. Meanwhile, Raja's brother, Sachin Raghuvanshi, led the candle march in Indore, expressing the family's grief and their firm stand for justice. 'To get justice for Raja, I will go anywhere in the world... This candle march is organised so that Raja's soul may attain peace...' he said. Meghalaya BJP President Rikman G Momin also reacted to the case. He condemned those who tried to defame the state of Meghalaya in the wake of the murder. 'The blame has already been placed on our state, so those who are blaming have to come and apologise to our state. Meghalaya is a safe and tourist-friendly state... Everyone can come to Meghalaya, and we receive everyone as our brothers and sisters. There is no difference; everyone is Indian, and we are Indians. We will work together... I salute the Meghalaya police for cracking this case...' he said. Ahmedabad plane crash: Centre's probe panel to submit report in three months
A high-level multi-disciplinary committee formed by the Centre to investigate the Ahmedabad Air India plane crash will submit its report within three months, Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol said on Tuesday (June 17, 2025) The Air India operates 34 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. The safety checks of 12 of them have been done and no issue has been found so far, the Minister of State for Civil Aviation told reporters here. He also expressed hope that an analysis of the plane's black box data will provide clues about the cause of the crash. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft (AI171) with 230 passengers and 12 crew members crashed into the complex of a medical college moments after taking off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad on June 12. One person survived the crash, while 241 on board and 29 on the ground were killed, as per officials. The Centre on Saturday (June 14) set up a high-level multi-disciplinary panel to ascertain the "root cause" of the crash of the London-bound Air India plane in Ahmedabad and assess any contributing factors including mechanical failure, human error and regulatory compliances. The panel headed by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan will not be a substitute to other probes being conducted by relevant organisations, the Civil Aviation Ministry had said. Asked about the probe status, Mr. Mohol said, "The investigation is underway and several small details will be investigated. Many things will come to light after downloading the 'black box'. A committee has been appointed under the chairmanship of the Union Home Secretary to investigate the matter. The report will be submitted within three months." The doomed aircraft's black box--which includes the Flight Data Recorder and Cockpit Voice Recorder--has already been recovered and may hold vital clues to understanding what led to the disaster. 10 Dreamliner aircrafts checked: Minister Mr. Mohol said, "The Air India operates a total of 34 Dreamliner aircraft. Orders have been given to inspect and investigate all the 34 carriers. Of them, 10 to 12 carriers have been inspected so far and no issue has been found in them yet." Probe agencies were looking into all possible causes for the crash, including loss of thrust in both engines of the aircraft, multiple bird strikes, or a potential wing flap issue. The high-level panel, chaired by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, has deliberated on various possibilities that could have led to the Ahmedabad crash at its first meeting in Delhi, sources said on Monday. The panel heard the opinion of various stake-holders about the possible causes and deliberated on steps to be taken to check future occurrence of such accidents by formulating Standard Operating Procedures(SOPs). Since a separate investigation is also being carried out by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), which is looking into the technical aspects of the crash, the panel discussed about the possible causes and lesson to be taken from it, the sources said. The NTSB is conducting a parallel probe under international protocols, as the aircraft is American-made, an official release earlier said. It is an independent federal agency of the US tasked with investigating every civil aviation accident. They determine the probable causes of accidents and events and investigate and issue safety recommendations aimed at preventing future occurrences.
