SRG.OG can defend Mid Season Cup title, says Dota 2 legend
KUALA LUMPUR: French Dota 2 legend Sebastien "Ceb" Debs sees similarities between his former world championship-winning OG Esports roster and the current Selangor Red Giants (SRG.OG) squad.
SRG.OG defeated Homebois 4-0 in the Grand Finals of the Season 15 Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) Professional League Malaysia (MPL MY) to secure a historic third consecutive league crown at Juara Stadium last Sunday (June 15).
They are now on a short break before beginning preparations to defend their Mid Season Cup x Esports World Cup title in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia next month.
Ceb, who recently joined SRG.OG as their technical director, likened their unity and mindset to that of the OG line-up that famously won The International (TI) back-to-back in 2018 and 2019.
OG remain the only team in Dota 2 history to win consecutive TI titles.
"I told them (SRG.OG) that they are bringing me back to the happiest days I've had in my career," said Ceb recently.
"There are actually a lot of similarities, and while it's hard for me to explain all of them, I see it in the way they treat each other, how they prepare and how they approach big games. It's a very strong group."
Ceb, who served as both player and coach during his time with OG, is not only sharing his experiences with SRG.OG but is also learning from them.
"I came with the mindset of understanding the group first, and I wanted to transfer my experiences," he said.
"But I also learned a lot from them. It's an amazing group with great mentality, and I'm just excited to see what they'll show in the future."
Having experienced what it takes to win and defend world titles, Ceb believes SRG.OG have the tools to defend their crown in Riyadh.
"I'm familiar with what it means to win a big title and go for a second. I told them, 'You're not defending it. You already won it, and it's yours forever. Now you go and try to get another'," he said.

Sailing-Madrid rivals ride the same wave as Ares join Mbappe in SailGP move
LONDON (Reuters) -Wall Street investment powerhouse Ares Management has sailed into partnership with Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe, acquiring a minority stake in the France SailGP Team — where old rivals suddenly find themselves in the same boat. The $546 billion asset manager, which counts Atletico Madrid among its sports investments, now shares an ownership table with Mbappe's Coalition Capital in the high-speed sailing franchise, creating a curious alliance between the Spanish capital's two soccer teams. "We are thrilled to enter the league and join the France SailGP Team's existing owners group at this inflection point," said Jim Miller, Co-Lead of Ares' Sports, Media and Entertainment strategy, whose firm also holds stakes in Inter Miami and McLaren Racing. The investment coincides with SailGP revealing it will add two new national teams for its 2026 season, expanding to 14 flying catamarans that rocket across global waters at speeds approaching 100 km/h. "The investment in our French team by an organisation with a stellar portfolio underlines the strength of SailGP's global league model," said league Managing Director Andrew Thompson. One of the six original SailGP Teams, the French team is spearheaded by driver Quentin Delapierre who assembled a stellar crew line-up when he took over as driver in Season 2. Known for executing stellar starts and performing in wild and windy conditions, the team holds the SailGP racing speed record of 99.94 km/h set in Saint Tropez, Season 4. France are currently sixth in the standings after a recent podium finish in New York. Spain, led by Olympic champion Diego Botin, top the 2024–25 season standings with 46 points. The next race comes at the British Sail Grand Prix in Portsmouth on July 19–20. Founded in 2019 by Oracle's Larry Ellison and sailing great Russell Coutts, SailGP has rapidly evolved from centralised ownership to a franchise model that has attracted celebrities and institutional investors alike. Hollywood stars Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds recently acquired the Australian team, while a consortium of sports industry leaders took control of the Italian entry. Professional services firm Deloitte will manage the selection process for the two new teams, with initial bids closing in mid-August and final decisions expected by early September.

Netflix signs first broadcaster deal with TF1, bringing French live TV and sports to subscribers in 2026
PARIS, June 18 — Netflix announced Wednesday a livestreaming and on-demand content agreement with French television group TF1, its first such deal with a major traditional broadcaster anywhere in the world. The service will launch in summer 2026, Netflix's co-chief-executive Greg Peters told AFP, while declining to name any of the financial or other details of the tie-up with TF1. Netflix subscribers in France will get access to TF1's five TV channels and content from the group's own TF1+ streaming platform –all 'without ever having to leave the Netflix environment' on their smart TV or other device, the US company said in a statement. On offer will be sporting events, soap operas and reality shows such as the 'Survivor'-style 'Koh-Lanta'. TF1 and Netflix have for years collaborated on productions like 2019's historical drama 'Le Bazar de la Charite' ('The Bonfire of Destiny'). But France's top private broadcaster – one of Europe's largest – has big ambitions for TF1+ to stand on its own two feet, making the more intimate tie-up with Netflix a surprise. The TF1 streaming platform aims to become the most popular free offering in France and the wider French-speaking world. 'TF1+ is and will remain at the centre of our strategy,' TF1 chief executive Rodolphe Belmer told AFP ahead of the announcement. Belmer insisted that the deal did not risk 'cannibalisation' of TF1+ and was 'truly complementary' in a media landscape of fragmenting audiences and growing on-demand viewing. He added that the TF1 group had done 'lots of analysis' and expected a 'significantly net positive' business effect. On Netflix's side, 'TF1 is very good with sports, with live areas that we don't operate in a large way right now', said Peters, who also praised the quality of the group's scripted programming. Netflix said in 2022 that it had topped 10 million subscribing households in France and has reported growth since then without naming concrete figures. — AFP
