Aleksandra Orbeck Nilssen's emotional story will feature on the new series of Ben Fogle's Channel 5 series, which was confirmed last September.
The TV presenter and adventurer has been at the helm of the show since it launched in 2013.
Now in the latest instalment, Ben, 51, travelled to Maun in Botswana before driving for five hours to meet Aleks and husband Ralph Bousfield.
Her journey to Botswana, via Namibia, came after she suffered a shocking attack while walking home from a film set in the Big Apple.
She told the show of feeling "lonely" before her move to NYC yet, addressing the attack, she bravely said: "I was walking home from a film set late at night.
"I heard these catcalls, which is quite common in New York so I just carried on walking.
"Then they grabbed me and wanted to get money from me.
"While I am digging through my bag looking for something I suddenly feel something kiss my forehead.
"That was a gun and so I was held at gunpoint.
"I went from having so much control, then this moment someone takes away all these control.

Talking their words literally, she upped sticks to Namibia - where she was offered a job for 13 years.
Addressing the way she made the change she said: 'I said to myself I'm going to spin the globe and if my finger lands in the ocean I'll go on a gap year. And if it lands on Norway I can spin again.
"And if it lands on a country I'll go there, unless there's a civil war.
"And it was Namibia.
"Two weeks later I was on the plane. I had a weird feeling like roots were growing out of my feet.
"When I arrived it was like 'I'm home, but I don't know why'. I was offered a job so I took a bold leap and went all in."
Now she has moved to the Kalahari Desert in Botswana.
Her surroundings in the sandy savanna in Southern Africa, are surrounded by lions and leopards.
Yet, in the midst of the animals, Aleks has forged strong relations with the indigenous community, setting up a Wisdom Academy for the community.
Meanwhile, her husband has created a luxury tourist camp nearby.
Aleks addressed the tough conditions to live and work in and said: "The Kalahari kind of hates you."
Yet she is intent on her mission and added: "I've got a job to do on this planet and I'm on a mission and that doesn't stop just because I fall in love.
"I met the tribe that I have now been working with for 14 years and realised I had to work with them. They've completely saved me, transformed me.
"They've brought nature to life around me. Could you get a better gift than that?"
OFF SCREEN STRUGGLE
The fresh series comes after Ben revealed how he had a 'secret breakdown' last year causing him to burn out.
In an emotional update to fans, he explained: "A year ago I suffered a mental health wobble.
"An episode. A storm. A blip."
"I don't know if there is a specific term for it but it was basically a burnt out, break down.
"I've been on quite a journey since I've learnt a lot about my neurological uniquenesses. And I've navigated the storm."
A Life In The Wild starts tonight on Channel 5 at 9pm.

Oasis are in the building, but what time are they taking to the Croke Park stage?
It is the most anticipated gig of the year, with the reunited Oasis taking to the stage in Ireland for the first time in 16 years this weekend. Noel, Liam et al have embarked on their colossal reunion tour earlier this summer, and 350 days since tickets went on sale (but who's counting?) it is finally Ireland's turn to hear Oasis live again, with two sold out shows in Croke Park taking place on Saturday and Sunday (August 16 and 17). With the anticipation reaching fever pitch, the band have since confirmed the times that everyone has wanted to know, including when openers Cast and Richard Ashcroft take to the stage before the main event. Oasis will be on stage at 8.15pm on Saturday and Sunday night. Pic:For both Saturday and Sunday, the gates will be opening at 5pm to allow the 82,300 people inside. From there, Cast will take to the stage at 6pm, while Richard Ashcroft will bless the stadium with his Bittersweet Symphony at 7pm. And then, at 8.15pm, the screens will tell the fans that this, in fact, is not a drill, while F**kin' in the Bushes will blare out over the PA as the Gallaghers, Bonehead, Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Tony Waronker take to the stage. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Oasis (@oasis) The band are set to stay on stage for about two hours, with the Oasis Instagram account saying that the show will end at 10.15pm. As for what else people will need to know, the concert will be taking place regardless of if you feel the pain in the morning rain, or if you're looking to spend your days in the sunsheeinnnne, with Met Éireann saying that both nights will see the latter, as the rain will be staying at bay. Saturday morning will be 'dry with sunny spells,' according to Met Éireann, while during the afternoon and evening, some showers are likely to move up over Munster and into Connacht, possibly heavy or thundery. Highest temperatures of 21C to 27C with moderate east to southeast winds. It's almost time for the shows in Croke Park. Pic: AFP STRINGER/AFP via Getty Images Saturday night will be mild and humid, with a few showers early in the night. It will become mainly dry overnight, as temperatures will fall no lower than 14C to 17C. Looking to Sunday, things will start out mostly dry and sunny, while showers will only really effect Connacht and Munster. Highest temperatures of 19C to 25C. The showers will die out on Sunday night, becoming mainly dry as temperatures don't fall below 14C to 17C.

Soap ‘mega-hunk' looks unrecognisable as he reunites with co-star and returns to show 20 years after quitting
A NEIGHBOURS "mega-hunk" looks unrecognisable as he reunites with one of his 90s' co-stars. This actor, now 55, has returned to Ramsay Street 20 years after quitting the Aussie soap. 5 Do you remember this Neighbours 'mega hunk'? - Seen here with co-star Kimberley Davies Credit: Instagram/neighbours 5 The pair have reunited as fans get ready to say goodbye to the soap - again Credit: Instagram/neighbours 5 The star in question is Richard Grieve - known for playing hunky Sam Kratz in the soap in the mid-90s Credit: Shutterstock Editorial 5 The actor was a pin-up in the 90s thanks to his role Credit: Fremantle Media Soap star Richard Grieve is back in Erinsborough, as Neighbours gets ready to bid farewell for a second time. Die-hard fans of the soap will remember him for playing Sam Kratz, who during his time on the soap became a pin-up on teenagers' bedroom walls. Richard's character rode into Ramsay Street in 1994 on a motorcycle clad in a leather jacket. He was an instant hit, and soon secured his Neighbours star heartthrob status. Richard previously revealed how he was unsure about attending the audition for Sam, after he learned that producers were looking for "a mega-hunk". However, he borrowed a leather jacket to make himself look more like the character, and he was told that he had the role a week after the audition. After leaving Neighbours in 1996, he joined rival soap Home and Away, playing Dr Lachlan Fraser. H. Staying with soaps, he then headed to blighty and starred in Emmerdale for two years until 2009. Sam is joined in his Neighbours return by Kimberley Davies, who appeared as Annalise Hartman from 1993 to 1996. The 52-year-old later moved to the United States, appearing in episodes of Friends and Ally McBeal. 90s soap bombshell hasn't aged a day as she returns to show twenty years after quitting The pair were pictured reuniting in a promo picture for their forthcoming return. Meanwhile, it comes after it was recently revealed how the final episode of Neighbours could reportedly 'fall flat"' - due to a lack of legends returning. So far, Richard and Kimberley are the only ones. Earlier this year, the beloved Aussie soap was axed for a second time, having been saved by Amazon after 37 years on Channel 5. 5 Actor Richard also starred in Emmerdale Credit: Shutterstock Editorial The original finale saw Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan return to Ramsay Street, alongside other show alums. However, bosses' attempts to bring back A-listers this time around have reportedly not panned out. According to Daily Mail Australia, stars such as Margot Robbie, Natalie Imbruglia, Guy Pearce and Russell Crowe are all said to have snubbed the final episode. An insider told the publication: "The cast of the current season will need to rely on the storylines that involve their characters, because breaking out the cheque book won't cover it." Regarding the 2022 finale, the source added: "The mega stars waived their usual million dollar fees and felt like they were waving goodbye to the show that launched them. It was very classy. "The fact that Alan Fletcher, Jackie Woodburn and Ryan Maloney were tipped off as the show was saved during Neighbours' 'farewell tour' was pretty awkward in retrospect." The last episode of Neighbours will air on December 11.
