Max Verstappen Slams Front-Wheel-Drive Cars: 'Worst Thing Ever'
But from 2026 until at least 2030, RBR will use a new powertrain co-developed with Ford. The four-time F1 champion is already starring in a loosely veiled ad for the Blue Oval. Riding shotgun in an RS200 driven by journalist Chris Harris before hopping behind the wheel of a
Mustang GTD
, Verstappen didn't hold back on his feelings about front-wheel-drive cars: 'I think it's really boring. For me, it's like anti-driving. I drove sometimes in the simulator. It's like the worst thing ever.'
As you can imagine, Verstappen didn't conveniently forget he used to promote the CTR not that many years ago. Still the
fastest front-wheel-drive production car around the Nürburgring
, Honda's hot hatch is generally regarded as one of the most enjoyable FWD cars. Nevertheless, it's perfectly understandable why Red Bull's driver gravitates toward RWD.
It's not just because the Mustang GTD sends its V-8 power to the rear axle, as contractual obligations take precedence. Much like when Verstappen endorsed a rear-wheel-drive Honda by starring in an ad for the electric city car, calling it
'fun to drive'
and a 'great electric urban vehicle.' It wouldn't be fair to criticize Verstappen, given it was part of the job to say positive things about the CTR and other Honda products.
While CTR and GTI fans might take offense at his statement, at the end of the day, it's all about personal preferences. Don't bring out the pitchforks just yet. Ford itself is no stranger to performance front-wheel-drive cars either, although the days of the Fiesta ST are over, and the Focus ST is only months away from
retirement
. Had those cars still been around, it's easy to imagine Verstappen thrashing either hot hatch with a big smile on his face in an official ad.

Liverpool's SECRET meeting with Alexander Isak
Things could have been so much simpler for Alexander Isak and Liverpool. Liverpool remain undeterred, fuelled by a lot of financial power, they have set sights on their man and they will look to bring him to Anfield. Whether that attempt will be successful remains to be seen. At this moment in time, it's too early in the window to make a prediction. Although as we enter the last month of the window, things will accelerate. Newcastle will want clarity over Isak's future. They will also want to bolster their squad, and they may realise that will only be possible with more additions and more money being spent than what the current Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) allow them to make. In that instance, they might just be forced to admit defeat and sell Isak to Liverpool, for the best possible deal they could get. But as we were saying, it didn't have to be like this. Things could have been so much simpler... 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas away range Liverpool's interest in Isak is not new. Ever since he emerged as a prolific teenager in Sweden, Liverpool have kept a close eye on him. Isak was formidable even then. A tall but still spindly and slender forward, his speed, technical ability and intelligence made him a dominant force in Sweden's top flight and that attracted the attention of many clubs. Liverpool were one of the leading candidates for his signature. Back in 2016, almost nine years ago, they even held a 'secret meeting' with AIK officials and Isak's agent to convince him to come to Anfield as Swedish outlet Matchdax reported. The meeting was held in Sweden with the club's representatives travelling all the way out to the country in order to sign Isak. They really wanted to sign him back then. However, at the time, Borussia Dortmund's pathway seemed like the better option for the young forward. Isak opted in favour of the German side and joined them in January 2017. The rest would be history but Liverpool had the opportunity to sign him five years later.

BMW CIO heads to its financial services group
This story was originally published on CIO Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily CIO Dive newsletter. Dive Brief: BMW has a new head of IT after CIO and SVP Alexander Buresch moved over to lead BMW Group Financial Services, effective Aug. 1. Franz Decker will take over for Buresch, leaving his role as President and CEO of BMW Brilliance Automotive. 'It has been an incredible journey, shaping the digital transformation of the #BMWGroup, by implementing technical innovations, born by the IT industry in exactly that period,' Buresch said in a LinkedIn post Sunday. Buresch was tapped for the CIO role in 2019 and is a longtime BMW Group employee. As part of the changing roles, Decker will now spearhead BMW Group IT, which drives digital transformation for the global organization with a 'clear focus on stable, secure IT systems and consistent customer orientation,' according to a June announcement. The group has six IT and software hubs with employees across 60-plus countries. Dive Insight: Carmakers are executing business strategies against a backdrop of economic uncertainty and shifting U.S. trade policy. The industry's biggest players are sharpening their technology strategies to mitigate some of the pressure, working to simplify processes and save money. The BMW Group remains on track to meet its full-year outlook, while tariffs weighed on financials as expected, executives said during the company's Q2 2025 earnings call last week. The company credited its IT hubs and research and development network in part for helping to ease the strain. As part of BMW's IT hub in Romania, for example, employees in its purchasing and supplier network gained access to AIconic Agent, built on the BMW Group's central access point AI Assistant, late last year. 'Our multi-agent system AIconic significantly increases employee efficiency and productivity while setting new standards for AI usage,' Markus Kronen, head of Gen AI in purchasing and supplier network at the BMW Group, said in a May blog post. The system features 10 agents that specialize in quality, purchasing and supplier data, purchasing process support and other areas. BMW has relied on tech partners to further its ambitions, including AWS, Nvidia and several startups. The company was one of the thousands of customers to utilize the AWS Generative AI Innovation Center, which connects businesses with Amazon AI expertise to troubleshoot implementation challenges. The German car manufacturer is changing technology leaders during a wave of executive appointments across sectors. The shift also comes at a time when the CIO has gained C-suite influence as technology becomes increasingly core to broader business strategies. BMW is also not alone in seeing a path for the CIO outside of IT. Puma tapped former Adidas CIO to become its COO last week, reflecting technology expertise's elevated role beyond back-office tech. According to Sky Sport via TWM, the Serie A runners-up have prioritized other targets over the former Fiorentina ace. However, even if Inter's relentless pressure on La Dea fails to come to fruition, they will not chase the Argentine forward. Indeed, they have other options in mind. (Photo by) Gonzalez has been one of several names on Inter's radar. Yet, the list is long and only features players from abroad. Chelsea flop Christopher Nkunku could be a realistic target for the Nerazzurri. Indeed, he has no future at Stamford Bridge and could be available in a cut-price deal. Furthermore, Inter have set their sights on Manchester United outcasts Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho. RB Leipzig's Antonio Nusa is also in the mix, although the Italian giants remain focused on signing Lookman.
