'Freak accident' cancels Kings Of Leon UK shows

RTÉ News28-05-2025

Kings Of Leon frontman Caleb Followill has said that the band will cancel upcoming UK and European tour shows this summer due to him suffering a "freak accident".
The singer, who is part of the US rockers with his brothers Nathan and Jared Followill and cousin Matthew Followill, were set to be at Blackweir Fields, Cardiff, and Lancashire's Lytham Festival over the next two months.
According to statement from the band, his shattered heel injury is "serious", and needed "a significant emergency surgery, that will prevent him from travelling and performing".
On Instagram on Wednesday, Followill posted a video to the band's account saying: "Unfortunately, I regret to inform you that those (European) shows will have to be cancelled due to a freak accident that happened the other day, broke my foot pretty bad, just playing with my kids, it's pretty gnarly, I'll spare (you) all the details.
"But we're fortunate enough to have some great doctors here in Nashville that gave me emergency surgery, and I'm on the mend, but they've told me that I can't be on my feet or travelling or anything for the next eight weeks or so.
"And that's a big bummer, man, we were so excited, we've been preparing for this tour for a long time.
"We've been preparing for a lot of things we've been in the studio recording; we have a bunch of new songs, we were going to debut a few of them on this run, we had a lot of exciting things planned, and now we're just going to have to pivot."
He added he was "very excited" to share the new music, and added that in the "meantime, we're going to do whatever work we can while my while I have these limitations".
Before ending the video showing his foot, Followill said: "Everything's going to be good and hopefully we'll see y'all soon. Wish us luck."
The band, who played Marley Park in Dublin last July and headlined Slane Castle in 2011, said: "The anticipated recovery process is expected to take eight weeks, under strict guidance of expert orthopaedic specialists. The band regrets to report that they will need to cancel all upcoming UK and European festival headline shows in June and July of this year."
Blackweir Live and Lytham Festival both said they would refund customers who had paid to see the group.
Lytham Festival said: "Due to the cancellation of the Kings of Leon dates in June and July, we are sad to announce that they will no longer be performing at Lytham Festival on Wednesday 2nd July.
"We wish Caleb a speedy recovery. Having explored all possibilities for a replacement act, it has not been possible at this late stage and therefore Lytham Festival 2025 will now run for four days from the 3rd - 6th July 2025."
Blackweir said it was "sad" the show on 29 June was cancelled.
The Nashville four-piece are best known for the songs Sex On Fire, Use Somebody, and Notion.
The tour, in promotion of their ninth studio album Can We Please Have Fun, will also miss out on shows in Spain, Germany, Italy, Croatia, Switzerland, Belgium, and Portugal in June and July.
Kings Of Leon are next due to be in the UK at Victorious Festival in Newcastle, and Portsmouth in August, following the band performing at MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey towards the end of July.

I ate at world's biggest all you can eat buffet – it cost £10 with NO time limit… but here's what it's REALLY like

Hungry Americans and fascinated tourists regularly flock to the 100,000 sq ft buffet to try and take on the world's biggest buffet. In recent years it has even become famous on social media through food bloggers and popular influencers. One of these is New York-based influencer Advertisement She told The Sun: "I'm a content creator so I like to show cool things in the New York area and around it and I had no clue that the largest buffet in America was so close to me. "So I wanted to go just because of its reputation of being the largest and serving up to 10,000 people in a day." Amorray, 29, filmed her trip and posted it online to her 440,000 Instagram followers. She said one of her biggest concerns going into the buffet was the quality of the food. Advertisement Most read in The US Sun Exclusive Most people usually head down to a buffet as a novelty dining experience where they can fill their plates high and try out as much food as their stomachs can handle. But the food is typically seen as below par due to it usually being left out under a heat lamp for some time before being eaten. Hotel guest reveals unique buffet breakfast and people have been left stunned Shady Maple is far from an average all you can eat place though as it even boasts an impressive 4.6 star rating online. Amorray said she was "pleasantly surprised" by the taste of the food on offer. Advertisement She admitted: "There were hits and misses, but there were certain things that were actually really good. "The night I went they were serving catfish . And I don't really eat catfish normally, but thought I'll try it and it was so good. "It was cooked really well and just delicious. "There were some things that I didn't love. I would say some things might've been a little dry or some things maybe needed a little bit more seasoning. Advertisement "But the things that were good were great, like their beef brisket, the steak and of course the cajun catfish." The breakfast costs just $13.99 (£10) during the week and lunch will set you back $19.99 (£15). The price for dinner varies depending on exactly what type of food you want to treat yourself to but a standard price is $26.99 (£20). Advertisement This encompasses grill items, 46 salad bar items, three soups, six homemade breads & rolls, four cheeses, eight different meats, 14 vegetables, ten cold desserts, three hot desserts, eight pies, six cakes, sundae bar and countless drinks. Special options are also available throughout the week including steak night, seafood night, wings night or even the grand menu. There were hits and misses, but there were certain things that were actually really good Amorray Marcano New York-based influencer Amorray was amazed by the cheap price of the unlimited food. She continued: "I would see people sit down, they would eat, and then they would go back for more and you could stay for as long as you want. Advertisement "So realistically, you could stay there for hours so it's a great bang for your buck . "For the night that I went, it was like $27 and the amount of food you get for that is easily worth way more than the price." One thing that did leave a sour taste in Amorray's mouth was just how busy the buffet was. Amorray and her friend queued up for 30 minutes outside at around dinner time due to the long line of excited guests. Advertisement The influencer was mainly shocked by this due to its little known location. Not only is East Earl a tight knit community in Amish country but it also has a population of under 2,000 people. "When I went in, I thought there's not going to be that much seating. But then once I walked in, there was loads in every, nook and cranny," Amorray added. Advertisement "There must have been thousands of people in there and I was not expecting that just because we already had a 30 minute wait and there was a huge line behind us. "Honestly I was kind of overwhelmed when I went in because I was expecting the amount of food but not the amount of people." But after tucking into her first plate, Amorray said she fully understood why so many people flocked to the world famous Pennsylvania buffet. Amorray was also blown away by the number of drinks available. Costing a whopping £82 per person at the weekend, there is certainly enough to choose from. After several, overly-generous spoonfuls of I prowled the platters of sizzling Asian grub arranged temptingly in tandoor bowls and loaded into terracotta dishes, before heading straight for the crispy Thai fish cakes. The fish section was part of one of 10 dining areas at the buffet. This includes a carving station, AKA the place to pick up your classic roast dinner and trimmings with slices of rare roast beef, flakey wellington and crispy roast spuds all laid out with gravy. There was a sushi station with hand-made California rolls placed delicately alongside huge tubs of wasabi and seaweed salads. The robata grill is where everything from whole seabass to juicy steaks are scorched over an open flame and there's also fresh pasta and pizza stations. If all this isn't enough to wrap your head around, you can also order directly from the chefs, doting on each station, when there is something in particular that you fancy that isn't on display. So the real question is: would you pay that much cash for dinner? Much like the food on offer at the buffet, Shady Maple provided almost every kind of soft drink imaginable. The star of the drinks show was a huge soda fountain to the side of the room. This had all kinds of soda in it from cream soda, vanilla coke and even root beer as well as all the regular options. A coffee machine, hot chocolate station and milkshake stand meant everyone's taste was catered for. Advertisement Alcohol was the only notable exception on the menu. I'm a plus-sized Love Island fan – the show's latest line up of skinny stars is another GUT PUNCH to us curvy girls

I'VE never been slim. In fact, I've been chubby most of my life. Now in my late twenties, I'm a size 16, which is supposedly the average size of women in the UK. 9 Mollie Quirk, The Sun's senior showbiz reporter, has opened up about body shape representation on Love Island Credit: Mollie Munro Quirk/The Sun 9 Mollie has written about body image and clothing sizes extensively throughout her career Credit: Mollie Munro Quirk/The Sun 9 Love Island 2025 is well under way, and Mollie thinks that the show needs to start promoting different body types Credit: instagram 9 Most women who appear on the show have slender physiques and flat stomachs Credit: Instagram But if this is the average dress size in the United Kingdom, why is this not represented in television programmes we watch? The number one prime example of a television show that has failed to represent normal bodies, and continues to lack in this department, is Love Island. I am a massive Love Island fan, though my passion for it has dwindled over the years - but there has always been one thing about the show that has really irked me. Sure, the Read More about Love Island Each year, the Islanders are unveiled, and each year so many of us mid-size and But when the gorgeous girls are unveiled, our hopes are dashed in one fell swoop. Incredibly glamorous with toned thighs, flat stomachs, perfectly And when the stunningly beautiful young women, usually in their early twenties, are introduced to us, we are further instilled with a beauty ideal that is unattainable for so many. Most read in Love Island Sitting there in my size 16 leopard print pyjamas when watching the hit dating-reality show, with no makeup and a pale complexion as I watch slender, tanned, gorgeous women strut around in skimpy bikinis? Yeah, it can feel like a gut punch. 'WHY DON'T YOU LOSE WEIGHT, THEN?' Some of you are probably thinking "go on a diet then" or "go to the gym" or "why not try Ozempic?" - but this isn't about me, or my health (which is fine, thanks for your concern), or what you think I should do... Watch the awkward Love Island moment that 'proves' two girls are feuding, say fans This is about media representation of body types and how thinness is superior over everything else in the world. Being thin is admired and aspired to, being thin is what women long to be, and with this translated in reality shows, TV and the media - young children are growing up with warped perceptions of their bodies. Children are - and have long been - striving to look like the stars they see when they switch on the telly. So, when different body types aren't represented, they're instantly deemed as "bad" and "unattractive". The 5 Best Body Positive Influencers To Follow @ @ @ @ @ Okay, sure, so that means obesity will lessen if everyone strives to be thin from a young age, right? THE IMPLICATIONS - EXPLORED Wrong. Because this is where I'm not blaming Love Island for promoting a largely unattainable beauty ideal, though, because this started way, way back in cartoons, 90s music videos and noughties chick flicks - but that's for another time. Nor am I saying or demanding that the show signs up obese contestants immediately, but some variation of body type would be nice, right? When women are already battling with themselves over whether or not they should wear a bikini on the beach, Love Island comes along each summer and further instils why they SHOULDN'T wear the bikini - and this needs to stop. 9 She believes different bodies should be represented, but also feels torn Credit: Mollie Munro Quirk/The Sun 9 Mollie's clothes sizes range from a 14 to an 18 Credit: Mollie Munro Quirk/The Sun 9 She is torn over the implications of including different bodies, or keeping them excluded from shows like Love Island Credit: Mollie Munro Quirk/The Sun When tuning into the villa of love, where are the size 12s with wider hips? What about the size 14s with small boobs and thicker thighs? Or how about the size 16s with cellulite and big bums? IS IT REALLY A GOOD IDEA? That all being said, and although I am a huge advocate for different body types going into the villa, do I really think it would be a good idea? Probably not. Even the most beautiful girls who appear on the show can get trolled over their appearance, so imagine what this would be like for heavier or curvier women? Constant yapping about how they're "too fat" or how they're "so unhealthy". Rude messages about their "jiggling bodies" and constant questions over how "anyone" could possibly find them attractive. Trolls are relentless, and with bigger bodies on display, I would fear that the mental health of many would be harmed. But which is worse? Women getting trolled because they're not living up to societal expectations and beauty ideals after years of battling negative body image issues... or young girls growing up trying to reach a largely unattainable beauty ideal that could be detrimental to their mental health and wellbeing? 9 Love Islanders are generally slim and toned Credit: Shutterstock Editorial 9 The women who star on the hit show rarely have lumps, bumps or cellulite Credit: Shutterstock Editorial
