Madhya Pradesh delegation to deepen collaboration with Auroville in holistic education and sustainable practices
A delegation from the Madhya Pradesh Education Department recently visited the Auroville Foundation to explore partnerships in holistic education and sustainable development.
A press note from Auroville Foundation said the team, comprising senior officials and educators, engaged in comprehensive discussions on Auroville's unique education system, which aligns closely with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and emphasises experiential, out-of-classroom learning.
In a virtual address, Jayanti S. Ravi, Additional Chief Secretary of Gujarat and Secretary of the Auroville Foundation, underscored the importance of spreading Auroville's integral education model — rooted in the philosophy of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother — across the country.
She expressed hope that the visit would pave the way for a deep and lasting collaboration with Madhya Pradesh.
On the teacher training front, plans were envisaged to implement a cascade training model in Madhya Pradesh for over 2.5 lakh teachers. Auroville will train master trainers who will then impart training on holistic teaching methodologies throughout the State.
A proposal for construction of Madhya Pradesh Bhavan in Auroville, a project originally supported by former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was also discussed in the meeting. This facility was envisaged to serve as a hub for long-term teacher training and collaboration.
The discussions also focused on collaborative projects in green buildings, renewable energy, and sustainable community development.
The delegation from Madhya Pradesh comprised, Kamna Acharya, Additional Director, Pramod Singh, Deputy Director, Sashikant Kubrelay, Assistant Director, Nishikant Joshi, Officer on Special Duty and Ashok Patke, Project Officer.
Sanjeev Ranganathan, chairman of SAIIER, presented the core elements of Auroville's educational methods, which go beyond traditional academics to nurture every aspect of the child — physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual. This included activity-based learning (sports, kinesthetic learning, experiments), arts and creativity (music, dance, theatre), emotional and social development (conflict resolution, leadership training), and higher-order thinking (intuition, moral reasoning, affective education).
Auroville has offered to train 100 selected teachers from Madhya Pradesh in holistic pedagogy during summer vacation.
The visiting delegation also toured Auroville's schools and met the trainers to explore future collaborations in curriculum innovation, physical education and teacher empowerment, the press note said.

Senior officials, including School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar and Higher Education Secretary Dr Vineet Joshi, briefed the Committee on various initiatives, including the Bharatiya Bhasha Pustak Pariyojna, promotion of regional languages in IITs, and events like Matribhasha Diwas and Kashi Tamil Sangamam. They shared that India identified 1,369 mother tongues grouped into 121 languages, with 22 officially recognised in the Constitution. Junior teachers demand regularisation of jobs
Bhubaneswar: Thousands of contractual/schematic junior teachers from various govt-run and govt-aided schools sat on a dharna near the state legislative assembly on Friday, demanding the regularisation of their jobs. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The junior teachers, under the aegis of the Odisha Junior Teachers (Schematic) Association, first conducted a protest rally from Master Canteen to Lower PMG before sitting on a dharna in front of the assembly. The association's convenor, Shesadev Yajnakam Deo, said the state govt has already abolished the contractual system in govt jobs, yet more than 13,000 junior teachers continue to work on a contractual basis for the first six years of their employment. "We are now called junior teachers (schematic) instead of junior teachers (contractual). But only a word has been changed. We are currently receiving Rs 16,100 per month as remuneration. In case of death during the first six months, our families do not get any benefits from the govt. The first six years of our service will not be counted for career progression because our job becomes regular after six years of service. This system should be abolished," he added. He said that though the BJP-led state govt increased their monthly salary from Rs 11,100 to Rs 16,100, it is yet to abolish the contractual system. "The govt should recruit the schematic teachers as regular teachers from the day of their appointment," Deo added. School and mass education minister Nityananda Gond said the govt is aware of their demand and will take steps at the appropriate time. But infrastructure and manpower in the schools is not sufficient for starting the Sishu Vatikas. If the govt does not appoint teachers for the Sishu Vatikas, it will be an extra burden for us. We urge the govt to appoint teachers for this new initiative under the National Education Policy (NEP)."
