Former 5-star, MSU target David Stone is off the table for Spartans via transfer portal
A former Michigan State top recruiting target and potential transfer portal prospect is off the board.
David Stone -- a former five-star defensive lineman and priority recruiting target of the Spartans in the 2022 class -- announced on Sunday that he will withdraw from the transfer portal to return to Oklahoma. Stone caused a lot of buzz over the weekend when he entered the transfer portal on Friday night, but it appears he was able to quickly come up with a path to return to Oklahoma for next season.

Stone was one of the highest-rated prospects in the 2022 class, and was a top priority for former head coach Mel Tucker and the Spartans. Michigan State was once considered the leader in his recruitment, but he ultimately picked the Sooners over the Spartans and Miami (FL) Hurricanes.
Stone appeared in all 13 games for Oklahoma this past season, recording six tackles -- two for loss and one sack.
There was never any reported connection between Stone and the Spartans when he entered the transfer portal. But for about 24 hours or so, Michigan State fans were enjoying the possibility of Stone finally ending up in East Lansing, Mich. Ultimately, that is not going to happen -- which, honestly, probably wasn't going to happen even if he didn't return to Oklahoma.

Ben Johnson envisions a big season for Bears DT Gervon Dexter
Chicago Bears defensive tackle Gervon Dexter could be in line for a big season in 2025. While Dexter has shown glimpses of his potenital, he hasn't had a breakout year just yet. But that could all change this year. This offseason, the Bears aded multiple veterans to reinforce the defensive line alongside Dexter, including signings defensive tackle Grady Jarrett and defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo, as well as drafting defensive tackle Shemar Turner. Advertisement Last season, Dexter got off to a fast start but his production declined when veteran defensive tackle Andrew Billings was lost for the season to a torn pec. Now, Dexter is positioned to have a productive season surrounded by key veterans. This week at minicamp, head coach Ben Johnson discussed Dexter's role this season and how he feels the entire defensive line can rise up as an entire unit. "It's hard to compare because I've only been with him now for, what, seven weeks, eight weeks?" Johnson said. "But, I can tell you this, just from afar, having called plays against him, he was a guy that really came on last year. You could feel it. With Billings being out last year, you could feel him grow into just a little bit more of, 'Hey, I need to step up here,' and you could see it. You can see it on the tape. There was growth. There was more production, particularly in the pass-rush game. "I think what we've seen here from the D-line room, as a whole, we've seen a lot of guys that are pushing, they're growing. I like to spend a lot of time down there during individual because it's not just great work, technique work they're getting, but they're coaching each other up along the way. as well. We have a great, cohesive unit. Then, when we get the pads on, it's going to be a really healthy competition, as well." On top of the player additions made to the roster, the Bears brought in defensive coordinator Dennis Allen and defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett to help maximize the roster. With the players in place, there's no reason we shouldn't see better production from the defensive line in 2025. Iowa football QB Mark Gronowski ranks as one of ESPN's top NFL draft prospects
Iowa football QB Mark Gronowski ranks as one of ESPN's top NFL draft prospects Whether it is fair or not, the 2025 Iowa Hawkeyes football season is beginning to look like it is going to see its success rest on the shoulders of the offense once again. A trend that has become commonplace for Iowa with their stout defense, the offense continues to be the biggest question mark. Iowa improved last year and enters the second year with Tim Lester calling plays, which should only continue to see the offense open up more and gain traction. Leading his offense is proven talent Mark Gronowski, a quarterback transfer from South Dakota State. While Mark Gronowski chose to join the Hawkeyes, he had NFL interest last year and could have taken the leap to go pro with a likely chance to make a roster. Despite snubbing the NFL last year, he still finds himself ranked as one of ESPN's top NFL QB draft prospects in the 2026 draft. Mark Gronowski, Iowa Gronowski had a historic career at South Dakota State, leading the Jackrabbits to two national championships and tying for the most-ever wins (49) for an FCS starting quarterback. He flirted with entering the 2025 NFL draft and even got an invite to the combine but decided to go to Iowa, whose offense showed improvement in 2024. The 6-3, 230-pounder is a densely built passer who can also make plays with his legs. - Jordan Reid, ESPN Gronowski's dual-threat ability makes him unique and intriguing to NFL teams, as his speed, arm talent, and rushing ability, paired with his big frame, is a mix that is not often found. If Tim Lester can unlock the same dual-threat ability that Gronowski displayed for the Jackrabbits, where he won two national championships at the FCS level, the Hawkeyes instantly get an upgrade at the quarterback position with arguably their best talent at the spot in the last half-decade.
