South Korean actress Lee Si-young is pregnant with her second child, several months after her divorce.
The 43-year-old confirmed in March that she and her then husband, restaurant entrepreneur Cho Seong-hyun, had split after submitting divorce documents to the Seoul Family Court earlier in 2025.
She married Cho, who is nine years older, in September 2017, and gave birth to their son Jung-yoon in January 2018.
Lee took to Instagram on July 8 to make the surprise announcement of her latest pregnancy.
'Eight years ago, when I was expecting Jung-yoon, who is now the most important person in my life, I was not married and was filming a TV drama,' she wrote in Korean. 'I was younger at that time and had many shortcomings.'
Lee said as her son grew older, she regretted feeling so anxious during her pregnancy.
'I prepared for my second child through in-vitro fertilisation during my marriage,' she added.
'The fertilised embryo was not implanted and, as time passed, the topic of divorce was raised. As all the legalities (of our marriage) were being sorted out, coincidentally, the time came for us to make a choice as the five-year embryo storage limit was almost up.'
Lee said she decided to have the embryos implanted, even though it was done without her former husband's consent.
'I had always wanted another child, and I didn't want to experience the regret I felt with Jung-yoon again,' she wrote. 'I couldn't bear the thought of disposing the embryos as they reached the end of their storage period.'
She added the only thing that kept her going during her difficult marriage was her son, who filled her with happiness, hope and inspiration.
'I had a miraculous child who made me feel like motherhood was the reason for my existence,' she said. 'I know there are a lot of challenges ahead, and I have had concerns about various scenarios, but all these aside, I want to believe that my choice is worth it.'
Cho confirmed to South Korean media outlet Dispatch that he was initially against Lee's decision, as they are divorced. However, he said he will fulfil his responsibility as a father now that his ex-wife is pregnant with their second child.
'We have been communicating frequently due to our first child,' he said. 'We will do our best to fulfil our respective roles by discussing the necessary aspects of giving birth and raising a second child.'
Lee made her acting debut in 2008 and rose to prominence in the hit K-drama Boys Over Flowers (2009) and the first season of reality variety show We Got Married in 2009.
More recently, she acted in Netflix apocalyptic series Sweet Home (2020 to 2024), receiving favourable reviews for her role as Yi-kyung, a firefighter and former special forces soldier.
She is currently starring in comedy-action drama Salon De Holmes , playing one of the four housewives who become amateur sleuths in their neighbourhood while rediscovering their aspirations. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network

SUPER JUNIOR Surprises Fans With Hilarious Grocery Store-Themed Merch

Merchandise has always been something fans look forward to. It's a way to feel connected to the worlds and artists they admire. Whether it's apparel, collectables, or themed accessories, these items help build a sense of community and shared identity. Because of that, brands and entertainment industries put real effort into creating products that are not only useful but also well-designed and visually appealing. SUPER JUNIOR (슈퍼주니어) has stayed true to that idea since their debut in 2005. From classic t-shirts and lightsticks to photocards and limited-edition items, they've consistently given fans something special to hold onto. Their merch has become more than just souvenirs—it's a lasting part of the group's bond with E.L.F.s around the world. On the 13th August (Wednesday), the group took to Twitter to unveil their latest merch concept—and fans definitely weren't expecting what came next. Swapping the usual polished K-pop aesthetic for a playful grocery store theme called 'SJ Market,' the group launched the collection through a dedicated Twitter account. To fully commit to the concept, the members even dressed in grocery store uniforms to match the vibe. The product line features standard K-pop goodies, but with a fun twist: everything is packaged to look like everyday convenience store items—such as cup noodles, milk cartons, bubble gum, and laundry detergent. Adding to the novelty are quirky extras like gloves, packaging tape, and towel sets, all wrapped in bright, eye-catching designs. It's a concept that stands out for its humour, creativity, and unmistakable SUPER JUNIOR flair. E.L.F.s were instantly charmed by the collection's playful aesthetic, with many describing it as 'cute' and 'unexpected.' The grocery store concept struck a perfect balance between humour and nostalgia, capturing the group's signature lighthearted spirit in a way that felt both familiar and fresh. What truly surprised fans, though, was the sheer scale of the release—over 30 different items to choose from. From quirky packaging to practical everyday items, the variety makes it feel more like a themed lifestyle line than just typical merch. Once again, SUPER JUNIOR has proven that when it comes to creativity and fan service, they know how to deliver most unforgettably. Source: Twitter Zaima Humaira contributed to this article

New Lizzo song pokes at Sydney Sweeney's American Eagle jeans mess

Lizzo (left) hinted last week at being inspired by the scandal, when she previewed the new track as she sported an all-denim get-up, channeling Sydney Sweeney. Photos: TNS, American Eagle/Instagram Sydney Sweeney might be all buttoned up regarding her controversial American Eagle jeans/genes ad campaign, but Lizzo isn't ready to let the scandal die down just yet. For the rare few who missed the Internet's ire over the Euphoria star's jeans ads that launched late last month, many took the 'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans' slogan as a nod to Nazi-era eugenics. Grammy winner Lizzo, 37, shared a clip from the I'm Goin' In Till October music video on Wednesday, less than a week after American Eagle broke their silence on the denim mess. 'No kizzy, he ain't got no business being with me/ Fat a– pretty face with the t—s,' sings the Juice pop star, real name Melissa Viviane Jefferson. 'B—, I got good jeans like I'm Sydney.' Though some might assume the winking lyric should be spelled 'genes,' Lizzo hinted last week at being inspired by the scandal, when she previewed the new track as she sported an all-denim get-up, channeling 27-year-old Sweeney. The video, captioned 'Lizzo's got Good Jeans,' began with a pundit slamming the 'woke agenda' and the response to the Emmy nominee. It was a since-deleted commercial that courted controversy as the Anyone But You star tells consumers, genes, or jeans, are 'passed down from parents to offspring, determining traits like hair colour, personality and even eye colour.' The blue-eyed, blonde bombshell — whose own look the Internet quickly equated to the Aryan aesthetic favoured by Adolf Hitler — then proclaims that her 'jeans are blue.' American Eagle insisted the campaign 'is and always was about the jeans' and that the retailer would 'continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.' Lizzo's tongue-in-cheek move comes two years after her own reputation took a hit in August 2023, when her former dancers filed a lawsuit accusing the body positive songstress of racial and sexual harassment and weight-shaming. A September 2023 lawsuit filed by Lizzo's former wardrobe assistant was dropped in December 2024. – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service

South Korean Supreme Court Approves Rulings Against US Composer In Suit Over 'Baby Shark'

SEOUL, Aug 14 (Bernama-Yonhap) -- The Supreme Court on Thursday confirmed lower courts' rulings against an American composer in a plagiarism suit he brought against the producer of the popular South Korean children's song "Baby Shark" six years ago, Yonhap News Agency reported. New York-based composer Johnny Only, whose legal name is Jonathan Wright, filed the lawsuit in Seoul in March 2019, claiming that "Baby Shark," the world-famous song released by South Korean education startup SmartStudy in 2015, copied his 2011 song. SmartStudy, now renamed The Pinkfong Company, has said its song was a recreation of a traditional North American children's song that has no valid copyrights.
