What's your favourite sip and seafood duo?

The Guardian28-03-2025

Australia is one of the best places in the world to be on the water – we've got endless sunshine, beautiful beaches and a world-famous harbour to boot. So it makes sense that we're also home to one of the most exciting boating events in the southern hemisphere.
Every year, the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS) drops anchor on the Gold Coast to celebrate everything to do with being on, in and around the water. It's a four-day immersive event that showcases the best new boating tech and equipment, as well as putting on exclusive waterside experiences.
SCIBS is a big deal in boating. Last year's event drew more than 40,000 visitors and featured more than 760 boats, 2,500 marine products and 330 exhibitors, all of whom came together to celebrate the fabulous lifestyle that goes along with boating. Whether you're into superyacht luxury, messing around under the hood, or are just dreaming of getting on the water, there's something there for everyone. No wonder it's known as the 'greatest show afloat'.
SCIBS returns this year for its 36th annual event from 22-25 May, and tickets are on sale now, with entry starting at $32.85 a day.
But it's not just the exhibitors (and the chance to rub shoulders with like-minded boat lovers) you have to look forward to. The best way to experience SCIBS is by soaking up the atmosphere at the Lagoon Beach Club, the show's on-site hospitality hub. It's a superyacht-inspired escape where you can sip Veuve Clicquot on ice, nibble on an all-day luxury grazing menu and enjoy live entertainment, all with the shimmering lagoon pool at the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort as your backdrop. Think premium free-flowing beverages, vibey DJ sets and the ultimate beach club setting.
Sound like your kind of fun? In partnership with the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, we're giving readers the chance to do SCIBS in style with free Lagoon Beach Club access on Sunday 25 May. For your chance to win one of five double passes, all you have to do is tell us what you think is the ultimate seafood and beverage pairing – because nothing goes with being on the water like some freshly plated prawns, oysters or octopus.
It could be a spicy margarita and some fresh ceviche. Kingfish carpaccio and a crisp lime soda. The classic combo of bubbly and king prawns (with some fresh lemon juice squeezed on top and some mayo to dip in, of course). Or something else entirely. We just want to hear what fabulous food and drink you'd be serving up on a superyacht, given the chance – whatever that is.
Simply tell us below what you think is the greatest seafood and sip combo to win access to the Lagoon Beach Club, and your way into a fabulous waterside day out. Entries close Sunday 13 April 2025, so be quick.

25 towns in regional Victoria are competing for gold in prestigious tourism awards

Victoria is dotted with regional towns that have so many attributes making them worth a visit. Our state has plenty of spots that are perfect for weekend getaways, offering everything from world-class galleries to fine-dining restaurants, and off-grid escapes to stunning hotels. Every year, these places across Victoria compete to claim an award in the TAC Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards, with only three towns in the whole of the state claiming a title. The finalists for 2025 have just been revealed, with 25 towns making the cut, and it seems like the competition will be a close call if the calibre of these towns is anything to go by. It all comes down to votes from the public that will help to decide who the winners will be. To make it a fair competition, the three award categories are defined by population size, which means that there are three prizes to be won. The Top Tourism Town award is for regional cities with a population of more than 5,000 people, with nine Victorian destinations in the running to claim the title. The finalists for this category are the historic goldfields towns of Ballarat and Bendigo, the riverside spots of Echuca, Swan Hill, Mildura and Shepparton, the seaside towns of Warrnambool and Lakes Entrance, and last but not least, Werribee (which was once its own town, but is now an outer suburb of Melbourne). The next prize to be awarded is the Top Small Tourism Town, with qualifiers having a population between 1,500 and 5,000 people. The wine havens of Heathcote and Rutherglen, the lake laden spot Camperdown, the peak-side town of Mount Beauty, picturesque Paynesville and the coastal towns of Port Fairy and Portarlington make up the seven finalists for this category. Last but not least, there's the Top Tiny Town award, encompassing places with a population of fewer than 1,500 people. The nine finalists for this category are the Grampians ' Dunkeld and Halls Gap, seaside spots of Flinders, Kilcunda, Marlo, the mountain range towns of Natimuk and Noojee, as well as Whitfield and Trentham. To be selected as a finalist in the TAC Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards, each hopeful town had to make a submission demonstrating a strong commitment to tourism, increasing visitation to the destination, collaborating with local businesses, and overall making the town the best destination it can be. A panel of expert judges then chose the top destinations to determine the finalists. Last year, the winners of the three awards were Bendigo for Victoria's Top Tourism Town, Daylesford for the Top Small Tourism Town Award and the ice cream haven of Timboon came out a winner for the Top Tiny Tourism Town Award. Now, the public get to decide who this year's winners will be. Voting for the TAC Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards is now open, and will close on June 27 at 5pm, so make sure to cast your vote here.

How to get free parking in Dubai Mall

Free parking used to be one of Dubai Mall's most-loved perks — right up there with the dancing fountains (which are currently getting a summer glow-up) and late-night Zara runs. But times have changed. Last summer, Dubai Mall introduced a paid parking system that started on Monday July 1, 2024. This means that fee collection will be done automatically using vehicle plate recognition when your car enters and exits the building. No need to panic, though. If you've been wondering how to dodge unexpected charges on your next shopping spree, we've got you covered. Parking will be free for the first four hours on weekdays and six hours on weekends; after that, your Salik account will automatically be charged. Fees apply only to Grand Parking, Cinema Parking and Fashion Parking, and they are as follows. Monday to Thursday 4-5 hours: Dhs40 5-6 hours: Dhs60 6-7 hours: Dhs80 8-12 hours: Dhs100 12-24 hours: Dhs500 24 hours+: Dhs1,000 Friday to Sunday 6-7 hours: Dhs80 7-8 hours: Dhs100 8-12 hours: Dhs200 12-24 hours: Dhs500 24 hours+: Dhs1,000 Okay, how can I actually get free parking in Dubai Mall all day long? If you want to spend the whole day at Dubai Mall without worrying about parking fees, you can park at either Zabeel or Fountain Views parking. The Dubai Mall Zabeel is an extension of the mall and offers 3,000 parking spaces that won't cost you a thing to park at. It has easy access from Al Khail Road, and the parking spaces are spread across seven levels, plus there are plenty of valet parking opportunities. You'll find yourself nearest to the Grand Parking area. It's important to know that Dubai Mall Zabeel is a mall in its own right and is home to EKart Zabeel, a huge gym, a supermarket, extensive art on the walls, a bunch of restaurants and a host of new retail and lifestyle experiences. You can also get free parking all day long at the Fountain Views parking located on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard across the road from Dubai Mall's China Town. This parking is accessible via Al Asayel Street, behind the boulevard. Exactly where to get free parking in Dubai Mall.
