Oprah Winfrey Appears To Diss Absent Broadway Legend At The Tony Awards

Yahoo09-06-2025
Oprah Winfrey seemed to snipe at actor Patti LuPone during the Tony Awards on Sunday.
LuPone had recently criticized two fellow stage actors who are Black, lighting up Broadway with controversy.
Winfrey appeared to address the simmering beef as she presented the Best Actress in a Musical award. LuPone wasn't there (it's unclear whether she ever intended to go, People reported) but she probably got the message.
'This astounding year in live theater turns to the women whose work sparked lively conversations among theater fans,' Winfrey said while giving a few knowing glances.
When the laughter and applause subsided, she declared, 'A lot o' talkin' goin' on.'

The comments were widely regarded as shade at LuPone.
The three-time Tony winner took umbrage at actor Kecia Lewis' accusation she was being 'racially microaggressive.' LuPone, headlining a neighboring show, had complained about the sound volume of a production that Lewis starred in last year.
LuPone called her 'bitch' in the New Yorker. She also took aim at six-time Grammy winner Audra McDonald, who was nominated but did not win on Sunday, for supporting Lewis' remarks. LuPone said it was 'typical' of McDonald and that she 'was not a friend.'
LuPone later apologized, but Oprah wasn't about to let the matter go apparently.

Lady Gaga's New Album Dances Back To The Charts

Lady Gaga dropped her new album Mayhem in early March and just a few months later kicked off The Mayhem Ball. The global trek sees the pop superstar traveling to countries across several continents and performing dozens of shows before wrapping in early 2026. As photos and videos of her high-octane performances make the rounds on social media after every new tour date, interest in Mayhem grows, and fans in the United Kingdom are getting excited for their chance to see the Grammy and Oscar winner before The Mayhem Ball hits London in September. Mayhem Returns to Multiple Charts The project reappears on multiple charts in that country, as Mayhem dances back onto two tallies in the U.K. this week. Gaga's latest full-length returns to the Official Physical Albums chart — which ranks only the top-selling titles available on CD, cassette, or vinyl — at No. 75. The same project also breaks onto the Official Album Sales chart at No. 79. Lady Gaga's Former No. 1 Mayhem has now spent the exact same length of time on both of those sales lists, as this frame is its twenty-first on the two rosters. In the past, when Mayhem was brand new, it hit No. 1, becoming a top seller in the U.K. Mayhem and The Fame Chart – But Don't Cross This week, Gaga sees two of her albums find space on the charts in the U.K., though there's no overlap between the pair. As Mayhem becomes a bestseller, The Fame, her debut full-length, appears on both the Official Albums and Official Album Streaming charts. On the former, which ranks the most consumed titles, her decade-plus-old set jumps to No. 56, while simultaneously declining slightly on the streaming-only tally. 'Die With a Smile' Represents Mayhem on the Charts Mayhem may be a hit on the charts once again, but only one single from the project is still going strong, and it's the oldest of the bunch. 'Die With a Smile,' her collaboration with Bruno Mars, lifts on four rosters at once. In just a few days, it will reach 52 weeks — a full year — on both streaming and sales rankings. An even older tune, 'Always Remember Us This Way,' is also growing. That solo track, taken from her A Star Is Born soundtrack album, rises on the Official Singles Sales and Official Singles Downloads charts, coming in at No. 61 and No. 59, respectively.

Daniel Dae Kim says ‘Lost' helped him with his new show, ‘Butterfly'

He's flying into a spy show. 'Lost' star Daniel Dae Kim stars in and exec produces the new Prime Video spy thriller, 'Butterfly.' 'I've always wanted to make a show that bridged Korean culture with American culture,' Kim, 57, exclusively told The Post. 'Because that's who I am. And, I haven't seen anything like that on TV before.' We were able to adapt this comic book…The original was set in Europe, and I thought if we transplant it to Korea, because of what I look like, then it's a natural segue to address the themes that I'm interested in.' Advertisement Premiering Aug. 13 on Prime Video, 'Butterfly' was based on graphic novels of the same name, and follows David Jung (Kim), a former US intelligence operative living in South Korea. His life gets shaken up when he must evade agents sent to kill him. To make matters more complicated, this sends him back into his estranged daughter Rebecca's (Reina Hardesty) life. Piper Perabo plays Rebecca's boss. Kim, who has been married to his wife, Mia Kim, since 1993, and shares two sons with her, told The Post, 'I'm a father, and so I was able to draw from the experiences I've had as a parent… because parent/child dynamics are rarely simple.' 6 Daniel Dae Kim in 'Butterfly.' ©Amazon/Courtesy Everett Collection Advertisement The Tony-nominated actor said that the crux of the difficult relationship between David and Rebecca is that, 'David is someone who thinks he's doing the right thing for his family. But, they're completely wrong decisions in the eyes of his daughter.' Kim, who first rose to fame on 'Lost,' spoke Korean on that hit ABC show. The actor, who was born in South Korea but grew up in America, has stated in previous interviews that he had to brush up on the Korean language for his role on the iconic mystery show. The 'Hawaii Five-0' actor mostly speaks English on 'Butterfly,' but since it's set in Korea, the language appears in the show, too. 6 Daniel Dae Kim and his son, Jackson Kim, at the 'Butterfly' premiere at Regal Union Square on August 5, 2025 in New York City. So, the speaking part is what I had to relearn [for 'Lost'].' When he was filming 'Butterfly' in Korea, he said he found it 'easier this time around,' because 'I kept up [the language] a little bit since the days of 'Lost.'' The 'KPop Demon Hunters' actor added that it was also 'more challenging, because the levels of conversation I was having in Korea were more sophisticated, because I'm also producing this. But anytime I get to speak Korean, it's a thrill for me, especially on camera.' 'Lost' was on from 2004 to 2010 – but despite the fact that it aired over twenty years ago, new fans still flock to that show and debate its ending. 6 Daniel Dae Kim with Emilie de Ravin in 'Lost.' ©ABC/Courtesy Everett Collection 6 Daniel Dae Kim on 'Lost.' ©ABC/Courtesy Everett Collection 'What an honor it is that twenty years after a show is on the air, that people still remember it,' said Kim. 'A lot of actors will work in this industry for decades if they're lucky enough to even do that, and not have anything that they're known for. To be known for a show that people remember for that long – I feel fortunate,' he added.

Olivia Rodrigo Makes It To A Special Milestone — Again

It's been almost two years since Olivia Rodrigo released Guts, her sophomore full-length. Fans know that a new project is likely in the works, as she spaced out her first two titles by a little more than two years. As they wait for any announcement that something is coming from the Grammy winner, interest in everything the singer-songwriter has put out remains high — especially in the United Kingdom, where she's a certified superstar. Guts is on the rise this week, and it's a major win on every tally on which it appears, with this frame being a special one for the sophomore project. Guts Hits 100 Weeks As it holds on, Guts reaches 100 weeks on the Official Albums chart. The title is Rodrigo's second set to make it to triple-digit frames on the ranking of the 100 most consumed EPs and full-lengths in the U.K. The roster uses a methodology that blends both sales and streaming activity to show what the British public is listening to, and for almost two years now, that has included Guts. Sour Reached the Same Landmark Years Ago Rodrigo's debut album Sour reached 100 weeks on the same list some time ago, and it has continued to add to its sum ever since. That title sits just two spaces behind Guts, at No. 26, and it's now up to 220 frames on the same tally. Guts Appears on Multiple Tallies Guts can be found on four rosters, and it has spent almost exactly the same length of time on all of them. Rodrigo's Grammy-nominated effort hits 100 weeks on the Official Album Streaming chart at the same time as the main albums tally. Next time around, it will make it to the same milestone on both the Official Album Sales and Official Physical Albums lists. Guts Remains a Top 40 Win Amazingly, 100 weeks into its lifespan, Guts is still a top 40 success. The title is on the rise everywhere, lifting to No. 24 on the most important albums ranking, and coming in one space higher on the streaming tally. Guts is a powerful bestseller even to this day and sits at No. 27 — up several spots — on both the Official Album Sales and Official Physical Albums charts. 'Vampire,' "Bad Idea, Right"?" and 'Get Him Back!' Guts was supported by several singles that each made a huge impact in the U.K. 'Vampire,' the album's lead single, debuted at No. 1 on the Official Singles chart, giving Rodrigo her third leader in the country. Follow-up cuts like 'Bad Idea Right?' and 'Get Him Back!' also reached the top 10, and even deeper tracks like 'The Grudge' and 'All-American Bitch' found a home on the competitive tally thanks to strong streaming activity when the album arrived.
