Raut presents copy of his book to Pawar, Shinde Sena says ‘invitation to go to jail'
Sanjay Shirsat, spokesperson of Deputy CM Eknath Shinde -led Shiv Sena, said that there could be two meanings behind the meeting.
'One, he must be telling Pawar that you go to jail, you will be able to see the heaven. The second meaning could be that Raut had been to the jail for three months, he has seen the heaven and he is much experienced now…The government should take serious cognisance of this and should once again send Raut to jail. He will then get another idea to write another book,' Shirsat said.
Raut, who met Pawar at his residence in Mumbai, also urged the NCP(SP) chief to attend the book release function to be held in Mumbai on May 17.
The book details experiences of his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in 2022 and his imprisonment. He was arrested on August 1, 2022, in the connection with the alleged irregularities in the Rs 1,034-crore Patra Chawl Development case in West Goregaon in Mumbai.
The court had granted him bail after 100 days while describing his arrest as ''illegal'.
Raut said the book will be released in presence of his party chief and former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. Sharad Pawar and Trinamool Congress MP Saket Gokhale will also attend the event.
In a social media post, Pawar said,' Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut met me at my residence and invited me to attend the function for his book release. During the meeting, we discussed various state and national issues. I wishes all tthe good luck for his future endeavours.'
Speaking about his book, Raut said, book exposes the way the ED carried out his arrest and how the government went all-out to silence him.
'I was framed in a false case. This was done intentionally and brazenly to muzzle my freedom of speech. Every word that I spoke had a grain of truth in it and it hurts the powers-that-be who conspired to put him in jail. I had full faith in our judiciary which again upheld the truth and called the bluff of the rulers, he said.
'Though the government sent me to the hell, people like me did not bend or come to the knees. They could not break me, my values and my honesty. The book will inspire those who fight for democracy,' the Sena UBT leader added.
However, Raut the book does not intend to make any explosive revealation. 'Narrating the real life experiences does not mean explosive revelation. Whatever I saw and experienced has been revealed,' he said.

Aasu, teachers unions urge govt to cancel reappt of retd teachers in colleges
1 2 Guwahati: The All Assam Students' Union (Aasu) and leading teachers' unions on Sunday urged the state govt to cancel reappointment of retired teachers in model colleges or any other govt-run educational institutions. Last week, representatives of several student bodies had held demonstrations in front of the state directorate of higher education, protesting against the decision to reappoint retired teachers in model colleges this year. In a joint meeting, convened by Aasu, with the teachers' unions, both the unions urged the govt to reconsider its decision to appoint retired teachers, terming it as 'unjust' decisions. The meeting included representatives from the Gauhati University Teachers' Association, Assam College Teachers' Association, Assam High School Teachers' Association and Assam State Primary Teachers' Association, among other teachers' associations. "After detailed discussions, the special educational meeting strongly opposed the notification issued for the recruitment of teachers in govt model colleges established by the Assam govt. The decision to appoint retired teachers, thereby depriving thousands of educated unemployed youth and forcing newly appointed young individuals to work for three years with a salary of only Rs 50,000, amidst uncertainty, was opposed by the meeting," Aasu president Utpal Sarma and general secretary Samiran Phukan said in a statement. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Could This NEW Collagen Blend Finally Reduce Your Cellulite? Vitauthority Learn More Undo "The meeting clearly said that the probation system is unnecessary and opposed the govt's attempt to extend this decision to provincialized colleges and schools," the note further read. The meeting rejected the idea of appointing retired teachers to 50% of the teaching positions, citing the need for experienced teachers as a 'pretext for depriving unemployed youth'. "The decision to allocate two out of three teaching positions to retired teachers is not justified," Aasu said. The meeting advocated for advancement of model colleges through a blend of experience and innovation. For this, they suggested that in model colleges, in addition to the positions of assistant professors in each department, at least one associate professor position should be created. In this way, experienced teachers will be appointed to these associate professor positions, they claimed. "If the govt considers it essential to utilise the experience of retired teachers, they can be appointed as guest lecturers rather than as associate or assistant professors. However, this should not lead to the elimination of associate or assistant professor positions," the unions said. "If the govt feels the need for experienced individuals in administrative roles for NAAC, IQAC, etc., it can create an educational officer position in model colleges," they further suggested. Manifestos promise the moon, deliver not even an email ID
1 2 3 Chandigarh: Every year, Panjab University's student council elections bring a flood of manifestos filled with recycled promises: new hostels, air-conditioned classrooms, a fully functional South Campus, pink police booths, women's helplines, refurbished gyms. These have been repeated for years, yet nothing has ever materialised- not even the basic institutional email IDs that students have awaited for years. What makes the exercise laughable is that most of these pledges are not even in the council's ambit. Hostels worth crores, large infrastructure projects, and policing measures are decisions of governments and university authorities, not student leaders. When the council cannot push through something as simple as functional email IDs or installation of CCTV cameras, the yearly manifesto ritual becomes little more than empty showmanship. CYSS, which held the presidency in 2022-23, went as far as claiming the sanction of Rs 49 crore from the Punjab government for hostel construction as its "achievement," a grant that never arrived. ABVP releases lengthiest manifestos, filled with pledges on women's safety, 24x7 tuck shops, plagiarism check software for research scholars, building audits and facilities, but delivered nothing. Yet when PU itself announced women's reservation in the council, ABVP hurriedly claimed it as its win, only for the plan to be shelved soon after. Vice president Archit Garg promised 50% placements, a dedicated women's gym, self-defense classes, and functional pad vending machines- none of which actually appeared. ABVP Joint secretary Jasvinder Rana stuck to the usual hostel-and-gym talk without result only to be disowned by ABVP after internal fight. General secretary Vineet Yadav had no manifesto at all and remained absent for most of his term, surfacing only when his party donated some hostel gym equipment in the final week. The ground reality exposes the gap. No new hostels have come up. Classrooms remain without ACs. South Campus remains incomplete. Gyms are unchanged. Pink booths and helplines never appeared. Pad vending machines are missing in most departments and defunct where installed. Institutional email IDs remain on paper. The problem is compounded because the council is never formed by a single party. Once in office, different groups control different posts, and manifestos are quickly forgotten in the scramble to run their own turfs. This disjunct between what is promised and what can realistically be achieved has only grown. Council members know they cannot build hostels, accelerate building projects, or appoint police booths, yet they continue to sell these dreams at the ballot. By the end of their term, students are left with the same broken list, only to hear it all again the following year. Fests over fundamentals With no new hostels, no ACs in classrooms, no helplines or pink booths, and even the long-promised institutional email IDs still missing, the council's focus shrank to just one thing- festivals. And even those were a travesty. PU spends big budgets on these events: Jhankar is meant to be a cultural showcase, Vimarsh an international debate platform, Scitron a science exhibition, and Aagaz a freshers' ice-breaker. But all were hijacked into star nights for political clout. President Anurag Dalal combined Jhankar and Vimarsh under the claim of "reviving PU's glory," only for the Arjan Dhillon show to collapse in mismanagement. Vice president Archit Garg, sidelined, attempted his own Gurdas Maan fest that never got clearance. General secretary Vineet Yadav's Aagaz was only to happen sans controversy with Prem Dhillon performing, while joint secretary Jasvinder Rana's Scitron saw controversial Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma's performance followed by a youth's murder. "Festivals meant for enrichment became reckless, disastrous spectacles," said a source. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Ramesh submits complaint to vigilance chief
Thiruvananthapuram: Congress MLA and former opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has lodged a complaint with the vigilance director, demanding a detailed investigation into the corruption involving approximately Rs 100cr by the public sector institution Anert in the P M Kusum project, a central scheme to provide free solar pumps to farmers in Kerala. The complaint calls for an investigation into the irregularities and tender procedures from the project's inception. The complaint is supported by all relevant evidence, he said. The Anert CEO has been named as the primary accused in the complaint, said a statement. "The total financial loss incurred by the govt through these transactions can only be determined through a proper investigation. More culprits involved in the illegal transactions can only be identified through a comprehensive investigation. Additionally, there are various irregularities in the project's implementation. The guidelines issued by the Govt of India as per Annexure-A1 were completely violated, which can only be revealed through a proper and fair investigation," Chennithala said in the complaint. "Despite being eligible to call tenders only up to Rs 5cr, the Anert CEO called for tenders worth Rs 240cr. The first tender issued on Aug 10, 2022, marked the beginning of the irregularities. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Could This NEW Collagen Blend Finally Reduce Your Cellulite? Vitauthority Learn More Undo There is clear misconduct in the withdrawal of the company Athithi Solar, which had offered the lowest rate in the tender. Typically, when companies withdraw in such cases, their deposit is forfeited but this was not done here. It appears that efforts were made to ensure that companies did not incur any losses even when the first contract was cancelled irregularly. However, the second tender was accepted at a significantly higher amount than the initial contract. The contract was secured at an amount up to 145% higher than what the central govt had set," he said. Even after retendering, deliberate efforts were made to select Tata Solar. The quote from Qantas Automation, which was lower, was disregarded in favour of Tata. Temporary staff were involved in altering even the amounts in the e-tender, he added. In this context, it is requested that a case be registered against the accused officials for these offences and that a necessary investigation be conducted to uphold the rule of law and justice, thereby preventing the embezzlement of public funds through fraudulent means, stated Ramesh Chennithala in the complaint.
