The longer this tour has gone on, though, the more you become convinced that Andy Farrell is absolutely, heart and soul, a proud and honest guardian of this unique sporting creation.
There has been much talk, these past few days, of the legacy of the 2025 Lions; one of those legacies is Farrell's ascent to a position alongside Sir Ian McGeechan and Warren Gatland as one of the great custodians of the modern Lions.

Saquon Barkley has declined an invitation to join Donald Trump's council on sports, fitness, and nutrition, which is being revitalized under an executive order. I was definitely a little shocked when my name was mentioned. I'm assuming it's something great, so I appreciate it but was a little shocked when my name was mentioned.' Trump last week reestablished the Presidential Fitness Test for American children, a fixture of public schools for decades that gauged young people's health and athleticism with one-mile runs, sit-ups and stretching exercises. 'This is a wonderful tradition, and we're bringing it back,' Trump said of the fitness test that began in 1966 but was phased out during the Obama administration. The executive order also reinvigorated the national sports council that could have included Barkley. Barkley won AP Offensive Player of the Year last season after rushing for 2,005 yards, eighth-best in NFL history, in his first season with the Eagles. Barkley has golfed with Trump and Barack Obama over the last year and the running back attended the White House celebration of the champion Eagles while some teammates – notably star quarterback Jalen Hurts – skipped the ceremony. Barkley visited Trump in April at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, and caught a ride with the president to Washington on Air Force One and then to the White House on Marine One. 'He loved it,' Trump said then of Barkley's short flight on the presidential airplane. 'He's a great young guy and an incredible football player. Saquon had a season for the ages, running behind the most powerful offensive line in the NFL.' Barkley, meanwhile, pushed back on social media criticism following the visit. He noted that he had already golfed with Obama. 'Maybe I just respect the office, not a hard concept to understand,' Barkley posted on X.

It follows two recent social media posts which made chilling death-threat references to Michael Voss (Carlton) and Simon Goodwin (Melbourne). Speaking on Channel Seven 's The Agenda Setters on Monday, journalist Caroline Wilson revealed a third coach – Luke Beveridge from the Western Bulldogs – was first flanked on-field by the same mystery man ahead of his team's round 17 clash against North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium on July 3. As many footy fans will recall, it was the night the Kangaroos were celebrating their centenary as a club. 'He (security) was there protecting Luke Beveridge. Why Luke Beveridge needed protection on that particular night, I'm not sure,' Wilson said. 'He emerged again the following week in Carlton colours, looking out for Michael Voss. Of course there'd been that dreadful, horrible social media comment that could have been perceived as a death threat to the Carlton coach after the loss to Collingwood. The man has been spotted in club attire (pictured) from multiple clubs dating back to July 3 'He emerged again, also at Marvel Stadium, on the weekend, and of course, (Demons boss) Simon Goodwin addressed his presence after the game. There was a pretty nasty social media comment directed at the Melbourne coach after the (recent) loss to St Kilda. 'The AFL are very sensitive about this, they'd rather we weren't reporting it. 'But I think the fact that he's a pretty prominent-looking bloke and we've spotted him at Marvel Stadium now three times since Round 17, at a time when there's been some pretty ugly stuff directed at coaches.' The Western Bulldogs have refused to comment as to why Beveridge was given the extra protection ahead of the Kangaroos milestone game. 'Clearly something happened to provoke Luke Beveridge getting that (extra) protection,' Wilson added. 'I can't tell you what it was, but they were obviously worried. 'But it was telling that the AFL was concerned (enough) to alleviate the worries of the wives and families, who clearly watch their husbands go out in very exposed situations. 'I mean, I don't like to be dramatic, but two guns got into the MCG earlier this year.'
