Sharjah plans to convert single-lane roads to dual carriageways to ease traffic flow

A comprehensive plan aimed at improving the emirate's road infrastructure is being implemented, Eng. Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, Chairman of Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA), revealed.
According to the plan, a number of single-lane roads would be converted into dual carriageways and connected directly to main roads, thereby enhancing traffic flow and meeting the growing needs of the population, he said.
SRTA is continuously working to implement vital projects in all areas of the emirate and the latest project completed was the development of Abu Amr Al Basri Street in the Al Rahmaniya suburb, in front of the Rahmaniya Mall, Al Othmani said during a conversation with the Direct Line programme.
The street was converted from a single-lane road to a dual road with two lanes in each direction and was directly connected to the Emirates Road, thereby contributing to significantly facilitating traffic flow in the area, he added.
The conversion plan would cover a number of roads in various areas including the road linking Al Shaghrafa and Kshisha areas, the implementation of which is scheduled to begin before the end of this year, he said.
These projects are proceeding in accordance with the directives of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who places great importance on developing infrastructure in densely populated areas, he added.
Al Othmani emphasized that these efforts are part of the SRTA's commitment to enhancing the comfort of road users and achieving the highest standards of safety and well-being for all members of society.
SRTA is adopting a fixed work plan that includes the regular opening of new lanes to meet the needs of residents and improve quality of life, he said.
