I'm an Irish Grand National jockey riding a 50/1 shot but I really fancy the second favourite to win at Fairyhouse
Respected jockey Sean O'Keeffe senses trainer Gavin Cromwell's sensational year will continue by winning the Irish Grand National.
O'Keeffe is a Cheltenham Festival winner who was won on Galopin Des Champs, now he is utterly convinced Cromwell will continue on a burgeoning year which includes Inothewayurthinkin in the Gold Cup and Stumptown in the Cross Country at this year's Cheltenham.
Now O'Keeffe – riding Another Choice – fancies highly touted Now is The Hour to step up and deliver a glorious victory at Fairyhouse.
Punters are expecting a treat after the thrills at Aintree and Ayr in recent weeks.
Speaking to horse racing odds: "In these big chases, a lot can happen. You can go out with a plan but then you have to take it as it comes a lot of the time, a lot can happen with a big field. It's a great start, 30 runners spread across the track. It is a case of getting over the first three and then finding a nice position and getting into the rhythm, it is just another race after that.
"There is a lot of history to the race, you look at the greats that have won it in previous years. There is always new history to the race too, as well as the old videos, that always adds to it.
"Maybe High Class Hero of Willie's he is probably better than what he has shown over fences this year, he got beat the last time out on quick enough ground at Thurles so stepping up, on lovely ground at Fairyhouse, I would say he could be just a bit better than his handicap mark.
"I'd like Gavin Cromwell's horse, Now Is The Hour. He seems to have been lined up for the National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham and he was going to run a really big race when he fell at the second last, there is definitely a big pot in him. If he's been kept fresh with this, he has some form with Captain Cody at Navan who won the Scottish National, so I'd say he could get compensated now in the Irish National."

Racing tax: What is it and why is the sport going on strike
For the first time in the modern history of the sport in Britain, its participants will voluntarily go on strike for a day. A day of protest will be held in Westminster. What does that mean? It means there will be no racing in Britain on September 10. The meetings scheduled for Lingfield, Carlisle, Uttoxeter and Kempton that day will not take place. They have been rescheduled to other dates. And why has all this come about? The strike announcement has come as part of British racing's 'Axe the Racing Tax' campaign, which is urging the Government to axe the Treasury's proposal to bring existing online betting duties into one single rate. Why would tax rises be so bad? Economic analysis commissioned by the British Horseracing Authority has shown that aligning the current tax rate paid by bookmakers on racing with that of online games of chance could see a £330 million revenue hit to the industry in the first five years, putting 2,752 jobs at risk in the first year alone. Strike action will surely cost the sport money? It will, it is estimated it will cost around £200,000 in lost revenue on the day. So does the racing industry support the strike move? In a word, yes. Racecourses, owners and trainers are all in agreement. The National Trainers Federation said cancelling fixtures was 'a huge sacrifice' which 'should serve as a stark reminder to the Government of the impact its tax raid will have on our sport'. Is this is a one-off, or will there be more strikes? No more strikes are planned, as things stand. Can I still have a bet anywhere that day? Yes, there will actually be one meeting in Ireland, at Cork. Irish racing is run completely separately to British racing.

Man Utd and Liverpool enter transfer race for Republic of Ireland international
Manchester United and Liverpool have joined Tottenham in a transfer race to sign Brentford and Republic of Ireland defender Nathan Collins. Collins, capped 30 times by his country to date, is wanted by all three Premier League clubs before the summer window closes on September 1. The 24-year-old joined Brentford from Wolves in a £23m deal in 2023 and the Irishman has made a total of 78 appearances for the Bees so far. United, Liverpool and Spurs are 'all targeting a move' for the Collins with interest in the Brentford captain 'surging', according to the Daily Mail. The Red Devils have already signed Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford this summer and are hoping to convince Collins into a switch to Old Trafford. Metro's new weekly football newsletter: In The Mixer. Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every Friday – sign up, it's an open goal. But United need to sell players before they can make an approach for Collins having already spent around £215m on new recruits this summer. Spurs and Liverpool are also keen on Collins – with both clubs seeking defensive reinforcements in the current window. Collins played under Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank at Brentford which could give them a potential advantage in the race for the Irish star. Liverpool, though, may be tempting given they're the Premier League champions and could arguably offer him the best chance of winning silverware this term. It remains to be seen which club Collins would prefer to join – but he does have a family connection to Liverpool given his father was a player at the club from 1988 to 1992. Collins may ultimately decide he wants to stay at Brentford, where he is currently working under the management of ex-Republic of Ireland international Keith Andrews. It should also be noted that Brentford may well be highly reluctant to sell Collins, who is under contract at the Gtech Community Stadium until the summer of 2029, having signed a six-year deal in 2023. Brentford have already lost key players this summer and could be set for a battle to keep their spot in the Premier League. The west London club have no need to cash in on Collins given the length of his current contract. More Trending Brentford boss Andrews is a huge fan of his Irish compatriot, having described him as a 'natural leader'. 'Nathan's someone I've known since he was around 14 years of age, coaching some of the Ireland youth teams,' Andrews said earlier this month. 'He's always been a natural leader, he's gained a lot of experience considering the age that he is, and he's developed his professionalism to a new level because he's been involved in this environment for a couple of years and has learnt from some great people. 'He communicates very well, he's got really good values, on and off the pitch, and, naturally, players gravitate towards him – he has respect from all the players and staff, which is a key attribute to have.'
