Who won the Irish National? The full result as Welsh raider wins the big race

The 2025 BoyleSports Grand National went the way of Haiti Couleurs for Welsh trainer Rebecca Curtis. The three mile and five furlong handicap chase is the richest race in Irish national hunt racing and has been won by many famous horses including Desert Orchid, Bobbyjo and I Am Maximus. This year 30 horses went to the post, and Haiti Couleurs got revved up at the start and was sweating quite badly. But the gelding set off in the lead in the hands of Sean Bowen and jumped and travelled brilliantly. The eye was drawn throughout the race to Ted Walsh's 13-year-old chaser Any Second Now, who also travelled sweetly for Mark Walsh. Any Second Now was, as always, brave as a lion, but he could not get past Haiti Couleurs. Quai De Bourbon, a gamble before the race, ran very well to finish third despite some bad jumps throughout, while Dunboyne ran an excellent race in fourth for local connections. Result 5.00 Fairyhouse 1st: Haiti Couleurs 13/2 2nd: Any Second Now 17/2 3rd: Quai De Bourbon 11/2f 4th: Dunboyne 22/1 5th: Johnnywho 9/1 6th: Better Days Ahead 16/1 7th: Shecouldbeanything 33/1 8th: Another Choice 50/1

Which horses is Willie Mullins running in the 2025 Irish Grand National?

Willie Mullins runs horses in this year's BoyleSports Irish Grand National as he seeks to win the race for the third time. The Carlow handler had to wait a long time to taste victory in the Fairyhouse race. Burrows Saint, steered by Ruby Walsh, obliged in 2019 to the delight of favourite backers. And he only had to wait four years for his next victory. In 2023, I Am Maximus was an impressive winner before going on to win the Aintree Grand National the following year. This time around, Mullins, who is also chasing the UK trainers' championship, has a relatively small squad for the race. His team is headlined by Quai De Bourbon, who will be ridden by his number one stable jockey Paul Townend. Quai De Bourbon has not completed the course on his last two starts - falling and unseating - but looks like a classy sort that could develop into a Grade 1 chaser. Mullins also runs the JP McManus-owned Sa Majeste, who was last seen running a cracker to finish third in the Kim Muir Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. Sa Majeste will be the ride of Simon Torrens in the big race.

What horse is Paul Townend riding in the 2025 Irish Grand National?

Paul Townend will look to continue his red-hot form when he rides Quai De Bourbon in the BoyleSports Irish Grand National today. Townend has enjoyed another brilliant season as the number one stable jockey to Willie Mullins. Along with winning a host of races at the Cheltenham and Aintree Festivals, he is operating at a 42% strike rate in Ireland since the start of the year. The Cork rider notched up another Grade 1 when partnering Aurora Vega to win the Irish EBF Honeysuckle Mares Novice Hurdle on Sunday. And now the 34-year-old will bid to win the Irish Grand National for a second time when he partners the Michael O'Leary-owned Quai De Bourbon. Townend won his first Irish Grand National on I Am Maximus in 2023, and his ride this year has a similar profile to that horse. Quai De Bourbon has only had four runs over fences and has not completed two of those starts. Last time out, he was brought down at the 14th fence of a Grade 1 novice chase at the Aintree Festival. Before that run, the gelding unseated Patrick Mullins at the fourth last fence of the Brown Advisory Novices' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. This son of Ivanhowe certainly needs to brush up on his jumping, but his backers will be hoping that the handicappers have not gotten to the bottom of him yet. At the time of writing, Quai De Bourbon is a 15/2 shot to provide Townend with another big-race winner.

Irish Grand National 2025 LIVE RESULTS: Templegate's 1-2-3-4 tip plus confirmed runners and riders for Fairyhouse race

THE Irish Grand National is here as punters cap off their Easter weekend with the Fairyhouse showpiece. Willie Mullins has saddled two winners in the English and Scottish editions of the National in recent weeks, and he could well make it a famous hat-trick this evening. The legendary trainer is set to have two runners in the big one at Fairyhouse, with Quai De Bourbon tipped by many as his best chance.

I'm an Irish Grand National jockey riding a 50/1 shot but I really fancy the second favourite to win at Fairyhouse

O'Keeffe is a Cheltenham winner who was won on Galopin Des Champs and is thinking Irish at Fairyhouse Respected jockey Sean O'Keeffe senses trainer Gavin Cromwell's sensational year will continue by winning the Irish Grand National. O'Keeffe is a Cheltenham Festival winner who was won on Galopin Des Champs, now he is utterly convinced Cromwell will continue on a burgeoning year which includes Inothewayurthinkin in the Gold Cup and Stumptown in the Cross Country at this year's Cheltenham. ‌ Now O'Keeffe – riding Another Choice – fancies highly touted Now is The Hour to step up and deliver a glorious victory at Fairyhouse. Punters are expecting a treat after the thrills at Aintree and Ayr in recent weeks. Speaking to horse racing odds: "In these big chases, a lot can happen. You can go out with a plan but then you have to take it as it comes a lot of the time, a lot can happen with a big field. It's a great start, 30 runners spread across the track. It is a case of getting over the first three and then finding a nice position and getting into the rhythm, it is just another race after that. "There is a lot of history to the race, you look at the greats that have won it in previous years. There is always new history to the race too, as well as the old videos, that always adds to it. "Maybe High Class Hero of Willie's he is probably better than what he has shown over fences this year, he got beat the last time out on quick enough ground at Thurles so stepping up, on lovely ground at Fairyhouse, I would say he could be just a bit better than his handicap mark. ‌ "I'd like Gavin Cromwell's horse, Now Is The Hour. He seems to have been lined up for the National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham and he was going to run a really big race when he fell at the second last, there is definitely a big pot in him. If he's been kept fresh with this, he has some form with Captain Cody at Navan who won the Scottish National, so I'd say he could get compensated now in the Irish National."
