Bharat Summit 2025 stresses pluralism, diversity, respect to counter polarisation
HYDERABAD: At a panel discussion titled 'Overcoming Polarization with Pluralism, Diversity and Respect' during the Bharat Summit 2025, speakers emphasised the urgent need to address rising polarisation through pluralism, diversity and respect.
Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha highlighted that pluralism and diversity are foundational to democracy. Citing Telangana as an example, he remarked, 'Disagreement must not lead to disdain,' urging society to embrace diversity as a strength that fosters development and unity. Esteban Paulon, a member of the Chamber of Deputies of Argentina, cautioned against the rise of extreme right-wing ideologies that propagate division and hate.
He called for progressive, inclusive policies rooted in human dignity and equal rights, stating, 'We must fight for a society where everyone can thrive without discrimination.' Echoing similar views, Zita Gurmai, a member of the National Assembly of Hungary, stressed the critical role of gender equality in sustaining democracies.
She condemned cultural and political backlashes against women and minorities, asserting, 'Diversity and feminism are not threats. They are antidotes to hate-driven politics,' and called for stronger global solidarity.
Professor Rahul Mukherji, academic and political thinker, pointed to crony capitalism and aggressive nationalism as major threats to democratic values. He advocated for the revival of secular and progressive alliances and emphasised the need to protect civic spaces, drawing on India's rich pluralistic tradition under leaders like Akbar and Mahatma Gandhi.

Lite byte: Persuasion, perseverance pay off for Telangana Congress in successful conduct of Bharat Summit 2025
When persuasion, perseverance paid off for Telangana Congress Post Pahalgam terror attack, the Telangana government believed to have mulled the idea of calling off the two-day Bharat Summit 2025 as the top guns of the ruling Congress expressed their inability to attend the event. This despite the government making all arrangements, vis-a-vas inviting foreign dignitaries, booking flights and hotels for them. Some dignitaries, in fact, had already arrived in the state capital head of the event, the main objective of which was to address 'rising polarisation through pluralism, diversity and respect', and to project Telangana as a model state with progressive thinking. But the state Congress finally managed to persuade its leaders, including Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to attend the summit, leading to successful conduct of the event. Focus on 'cleansing' CMO! After the major reshuffle of IAS officers, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is now believed to be focusing on 'cleansing' the Chief Minister's Office (CMO). Sources privy to the matter revealed that a key official is likely to be shunted out soon. However, as the official in question is said to be a close aide of the chief minister, he is unlikely to be shifted out in a 'humiliating' manner. The official, according to sources, is likely to be compensated with the post of a RTI commissioner.

State emerging as hub for GCCs, EVs, data centres: Telangana CM Revanth
HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday asserted that Telangana was rapidly emerging as a hub for global capability centres (GCCs), electric vehicles (EVs) and data centres. Addressing the closing session of Bharat Summit 2025, the chief minister urged delegates to become 'Brand Ambassadors of Telangana Rising'. He said: 'Our work has just begun. We have much more to do. I invite all of you to please join this mission to transform lives positively. Use your experience, knowledge, skills to share the Telangana Rising story and provide us inputs to do even better.' He emphasised that the government was balancing investment needs, job creation, economic growth, welfare and environment for good governance. 'Our approach is simple — increase government revenue and share it with the poor,' he added. Criticising the previous administration, Revanth said, 'For 10 years, the dreams and aspirations of the people were not fulfilled.' He outlined the Congress government's 'simple mantra' — to fulfil the dreams of every section of society, especially students and youth, farmers, women, and oppressed castes. He highlighted several major welfare schemes have been launched by the government, including crop loan waiver, Rythu Bharosa, Indiramma Athmeeya Bharosa, bonus for super fine quality paddy, Rajiv Yuva Vikasam, free bus rides for women, Indiramma Housing Scheme, and free electricity up to 200 units, in addition to the establishment of Young India Skill University. Revanth pointed out that while students played a leading role in the Telangana agitation, their education and employment opportunities were neglected. 'There were no government job recruitments or notifications. After we took charge, we have filled over 60,000 government jobs within the first year. We also launched Rajiv Yuva Vikasam to fund the startup dreams of 5 lakh youth,' he said. Revanth reiterated that education, healthcare and employment were the government's top priorities. 'Welfare implementation, infrastructure development, attracting investments, ensuring transparent governance and eliminating corruption are the hallmarks of our administration,' he stated, adding, 'We are already seeing results.' Emphasising the empowerment of women entrepreneurs, the chief minister said, 'We aim to create 10 million women business successes and see them grow into millionaires. The government has enabled women to own solar power plants, operate electric RTC buses, run petrol bunks and manage shops in premium retail spaces. Today, women entrepreneurs are competing with Adani, Ambani and other major corporations,' he said, referencing businesses at Shilparamam and other locations. As part of the Indiramma Indlu scheme, he noted that the government allocated `22,000 crore to help 4.5 lakh families build their own homes within the first year. Speaking on environmental initiatives, the chief minister announced the rejuvenation of the Musi river. 'Water is the lifeline of civilisation,' he said. 'We are cleaning and reviving the 55-km stretch of the Musi, protecting nature, securing drinking water for the city, and reducing pollution.' Drawing inspiration from global riverfront projects like the Hudson river in New York, the Thames in London, and the Sumida in Tokyo, he said, 'Musi will become the biggest attraction of our city and create thousands of new jobs.'

‘Hyderabad Resolution' calls for justice, equality, sustainability
HYDERABAD: The Bharat Summit 2025, a gathering of progressive thinkers organised by the state government to mark the 70th anniversary of the 1st Afro-Asian Bandung Conference, concluded with the adoption of the Hyderabad Resolution on Saturday. Amid rising global crises, the resolution identified key threats such as far-right authoritarianism, institutional erosion, media manipulation and growing inequality. It condemned terrorism, autocratic repression, and violations of international law — especially against the Global South, minorities and climate-vulnerable communities. Focusing on five pillars — economic justice, environmental justice, gender equality and social inclusion, democracy and social justice, and peace and human security — the resolution called for a new economic model based on equity, progressive taxation, fair trade, and democratic control of key infrastructure. It also urged reforms to global institutions, including democratising the UN system and empowering the Global South, stressing multilateralism and solidarity to defend democratic values. Rooted in the ideals of Ahimsa (nonviolence), Satya (truth), Nyay (justice), and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (One World), the participants of the Bharat Summit 2025 through the Hyderabad Resolution, committed themselves to building a fairer, more just, and sustainable global order through collective progressive action.
