Rúben Neves and João Cancelo flew to Portugal following Al Hilal's 2-1 defeat to Fluminense in the Club World Cup quarterfinals for the funeral of former teammate Diogo Jota. Neves served as a pallbearer for his close friend who died in a car crash with his brother André Silva in Spain on Thursday.

Prior to the match with Fluminense, Neves posted a tribute to Jota on social media.
"Wherever you are, I know you're going to read this, we've never been one for this sort of thing and maybe now I'll regret it a little," Neves wrote on an Instagram post. "But you know what you mean to me just as much as I know what I am to you."
"When I go to the national team, you'll still be by my side at the dinner table, on the bus, on the plane... you'll always be there with me, as usual," he continued. "We'll keep laughing, making plans, sharing our lives with each other. I'll make sure you're always there and I'll make sure your family never lacks anything while you're there, far away but thinking of us, waiting for us..."
During a moment of silence before the Club World Cup match began, Neves and Cancelo broke down with emotion for their former teammate.
Players and staff from Liverpool, for whom Jota played in the Premier League, also traveled to Portugal for the funeral. Among those in attendance were captain Virgil van Dijk and manager Arne Slot.
Jota originally joined Liverpool in 2020, scoring 47 goals with 15 assists in his 79 starts with the team, which won the Premier League title for the 2024-25 season.

Jota's death inspired tributes throughout the world on Friday. During Chelsea's Club World Cup match with Palmeiras, Jota's Portugal teammate Pedro Neto brought a jersey with the names Diogo and André onto the pitch.

Portuguese tennis players Nuno Borges and Francisco Cabral wore black ribbons during their matches at Wimbledon on Friday, as the All-England Club relaxed its all-white dress code to allow the players to pay tribute.
At the first show of their reunion tour in Cardiff, Wales, the rock band Oasis had an image of Jota in his Liverpool jersey projected behind the stage.
The cause of the crash that killed Jota and Silva is still ongoing. Police do not know who was driving the car and whether or not a blown tire caused the crash. The vehicle, a Lamborghini, was in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene.

Report – Inter Milan To Miss Out As Sevilla Star Set To Join Bayer Leverkusen

Inter Milan are set to miss out on the signature of the Loic Bade, with the Sevilla defender set to join Bayer Leverkusen. This according to German broadcaster Sky Sports Deutschland, via FCInterNews. Loic Bade is one name that has emerged in Inter Milan's search for a defender. The Nerazzurri have already missed out on major targets such as Koni De Winter and Giovanni Leoni. However, there is still a sense that Inter could sign a defender late in the window. Particularly if Benjamin Pavard is to leave. Therefore, Inter have been sounding out other targets. Including Sevilla and France defender Loic Bade. And Bade himself had reportedly stalled on a move to Leverkusen. If there was a possibility to join Inter, that would have been the France international's preference. However, according to Sky Sports Deutschland, Leverkusen are close to getting the deal over the line. The 2023-24 Bundesliga champions will pay a fee of around €30 million for Bade. Unless Inter are to make a quick move to sign bade ahead of Leverkusen, Sky Deutschland anticipate that the Frenchman will complete his move early next week.

Di Marzio Reveals Why Roma Turned Down Inter Milan Offer For France International

Roma turned down Inter Milan's offer for midfielder Manu Kone after owner Dan Friedkin pulled the plug on talks. This according to Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio. Atlético Madrid 2025/26 Season Preview: Transfers, Dates, Predictions

Following a devastatingly poor FIFA Club World Cup, the expectation was for Atlético Madrid to make big changes to compete for La Liga. Few expected quite how significant that refresh would turn out to be in the weeks to follow. Sporting director Carlos Bucero opted no to strengthen the squad before the summer tournament in the United States, a call which backfired as the team was eliminated at the group stage. Immediately afterwards, recruitment began and Atleti hasn't looked back since. A lackluster defeat to Porto was a disappointing start to pre-season, but a draw with Rayo Vallecano and a win over Newcastle United have shown improvements. What's new for Atlético Madrid in 2025/26? This summer has been one of non-stop action for Atlético. Eight departures and seven new arrivals show the scale of turnover which could see Diego Simeone field a very different lineup to the one that he ended 2024/25 with. The departure of Rodrigo de Paul has been the only regular starter to have moved on from the club as he joined Inter Miami in MLS, but numerous reliable squad options, such as Samuel Lino, Axel Witsel, Reinildo Mandava, César Azpilicueta and Rodrigo Riquelme have also been moved on to fund transfer moves for other options. In their places, Atleti has sought to rejuvenate the squad with a younger profile of player. Álex Baena, the star signing and La Liga's highest provider of assists last season, and Marc Pubill were both part of Spain's under 23 side that won Olympic gold last summer alongside Pablo Barrios. Long-term targets have also been brought in, with David Hancko and Thiago Almada putting pen to paper after both being repeatedly linked. There has also been an unexpected contribution from Italy, with Matteo Ruggeri and Giacomo Raspadori, providing the surprises of the window. Now, it's down to the coach to incorporate his new additions. Diego Simeone addressed that very point in his first pre-match press conference of the season as he explained that, 'now new faces have arrived, young people who are aware of the legacy that has been built over the last 13, 14, 15 years by many of the players who continue to help this club grow, and who are eager to adapt to the club's current needs'. Despite the wealth of new faces on offer, Atlético Madrid will start the season without one of their longest-serving stalwarts. Defensive leader José María Giménez has not trained since the Club World Cup after suffering a muscle injury which he is yet to return from. There is no timeline for the Uruguayan's return. In midfield, Pablo Barrios has also been absent in pre-season after suffering a muscle strain. While he has trained fully in the lead up to the season-opening game against Espanyol, he is not expected to start until he has more minutes under his belt to regain full match fitness. The first major fixture to take place at the Estadio Riyadh Air Metropolitano this season will be the Madrid derby against Real Madrid, which will be held on the weekend of September 28th with the exact time and date yet to be confirmed. The return fixture will then take place over the weekend of March 22nd. A little over a month later, on November 1st, Atlético will travel to the Spotify Camp Nou for one of Barcelona's first big fixtures back at their home stadium after renovation works. The Culés will then visit Madrid to take on Atlético on April 5th. On a continental front, the UEFA Champions League league stage draw will take place on August 28th to decide who Atlético Madrid will play in the first stage of the competition. Just over two weeks later, in the week of September 15th, the first game of that league phase will be played. Atlético centered much of their game around superstar Julián Álvarez in his first season at the club, and his 29 goals justified that call. This season, the expectation will be for him to do even better than he did in his best-ever season. Much of the team's recruitment has focused on supporting the Argentine and adding depth which could prove pivotal. Lessons have been learned from recent campaigns, where the squad has run out of steam come March. There will be no changing of the guard just yet, but this could be the final season as Colchoneros for club captain Koke and record goalscorer Antoine Griezmann, who could both depart next summer.
