CAF jawan killed in IED blast in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur
The blast occurred between Toynar and Farsegarh villages, where a CAF team was out patrolling to provide security to road construction work, an official said.
A road is being constructed from Toynar to Farsegarh.
The official said constable Manoj Pujari (26), belonging to the CAF's 19th battalion, inadvertently stepped over an IED, triggering the blast that killed him.
He said a search operation was underway in the area.
The Maoists often plant IEDs along the road and dirt tracks in forests to target security personnel during patrolling in interior pockets of the Bastar region, comprising seven districts, including Bijapur.
Civilians have fallen prey to such traps laid by ultras in the past.
On April 9, a jawan of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was injured in a similar blast in Bijapur, while on April 4, a 25-year-old man died, and another was injured in Narayanpur district.
On March 30, a 40-year-old tribal woman was killed when an IED planted by Naxalites went off in Bijapur district.

1 2 3 Hyderabad: BJP MP Raghunandan Rao has lodged a complaint with the police alleging that he had received two telephonic death threats in the name of Maoists. The case, initially registered at Narsingi police station, has been transferred to Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) by the DGP on Tuesday for investigation. According to a complaint filed at Narsingi police station on June 24, Medak MP, Raghunandan Rao's assistant answered a call from an unknown number on June 23 at 1:30 pm while the parliamentarian was attending a school function in Dammayguda. The caller claimed to represent the Maoist party and threatened to kill the MP before abruptly disconnecting. A second call from the same number came minutes later. Acting on the MP's instructions, the assistant placed the handset on speaker and recorded the conversation on another device. "The caller warned that Maoist groups have already started from Madhya Pradesh and they will reach my location by midnight and kill me," the MP alleged. Citing his views on Operation Kagar, terrorism and the debate on madrasas in parliament, Medak MP described the threats as serious and sought immediate police intervention. Two senior Maoists killed in Chhattisgarh
Two senior Maoists carrying a total reward of at least ₹35 lakh between them were gunned down by the security forces in Chhattisgarh's Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district on Wednesday (August 13, 2025), said the police. District Superintendent of Police Y.P. Singh said Vijay Reddy and Lokesh Salame were killed in an anti-Maoist operation conducted along the Banda Pahad hill under the Madanwada police station area. Mr. Singh said Reddy was a member of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee of Maoists and carried a bounty of ₹25 lakh, while Salame, a divisional committee member, was carrying a reward of ₹10 lakh on his head. He said Reddy was also carrying rewards in neighbouring States, including Maharashtra, and details of the same were being verified. 'Reddy was indulged in Maoist activities in the RKB (Rajnandgaon Kanker Border) division of the Maoists,' Mr. Singh added. The operation was launched on Tuesday (August 12, 2025) when, on the basis of inputs, a team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) set out on the operation, while the exchange of fire took place on Wednesday (August 13, 2025). The area where the gunfight took place borders Maharashtra and is close to the Kanker district of Chhattisgarh's Bastar region. After Wednesday's (August 13, 2025) action, 229 Maoists have been killed in separate encounters in Chhattisgarh so far this year, according to updated figures shared by the police.

Football body fines Kenya, again, over safety concerns
Kenya will receive another fine over crowd safety and security breaches, a football governing body said Wednesday, with officials promising to prevent chaotic scenes outside stadiums with extra security. It is the first time three East African countries — Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda — have hosted the ongoing African Nations Championship, but the historic moment has been overshadowed by long delays over the stadiums' readiness and now unruly spectators. Crowds have stormed Nairobi's Kasarani Stadium without tickets at previous matches involving Kenya, with videos on social media showing people chaotically streaming into the facility being shared — and condemned — widely online. The continent has a deadly history of football crowds losing control, with 140 people dying in a stampede outside a Guinean stadium last year. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has already fined Kenya — imposing a $17,500 fine on Monday — and limited the crowd size ahead of their match against Zambia on Sunday. CAF's disciplinary board said there had been 'multiple safety and security breaches' at the Kasarani Stadium, stating that it had 'found Kenya guilty and imposed a fine of $50,000'.
