435 Maoists, including 48 women, killed in 18 months of anti-Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh: Official data
NEW DELHI: Over the past 18 months, security forces have achieved significant success in anti-Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh, neutralising 435 Maoists, including a record 48 women operatives, officials said on Saturday.
According to official data accessed by TNIE, women now account for approximately 10% of the total Maoists killed between 2024 and June 20 2025, the highest number of female Naxal casualties recorded in any such period since 2001.
The sharp increase in neutralisation of Maoist operatives 198 in 2025 alone marks a significant blow to Left Wing Extremism (LWE) in the region.

In a major step to protect students, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has listed 89 colleges and universities across India for not following anti-ragging rules. The list includes top institutions like four IITs, three IIMs, and other leading national IITs flagged for non-compliance are IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Hyderabad, and IIT Palakkad. The IIMs in question include IIM Bombay, IIM Rohtak, and IIM Tiruchirappalli. Others on the list include AIIMS Raebareli and the National Institute of Design (NID) campuses in Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, and UGC issued show-cause notices to these institutions for not submitting the required anti-ragging undertakings from both students and the institutions themselves, despite repeated advisories, follow-up calls from the Anti-Ragging Helpline, and interventions by the Anti-Ragging Monitoring Agency. 'Despite multiple reminders, these institutions have not submitted compliance documents mandated under the UGC's Anti-Ragging Regulations, 2009,' said UGC Secretary Manish Joshi. 'This is a serious concern, especially considering the rising instances of ragging-related distress and growing safety concerns within campuses,' he to comply with these regulations could result in severe penalties. The UGC has warned that it may withdraw grants, suspend research funding, or even cancel the affiliation of non-compliant institutions if they do not respond within 30 notable institutions on the defaulters' list include Aligarh Muslim University, Nalanda University, NIPER Hyderabad, IGNOU, and the Indian Statistical Institute in per the UGC guidelines, it is compulsory for every student, along with their parents or guardians, to submit an anti-ragging affidavit at the time of admission and at the beginning of every academic year. Ever since the film's trailer dropped on 22 June, Dosanjh has faced relentless criticism for acting alongside Hania. The trailer has since been removed from YouTube in India, and both the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) have spoken out against him, calling for a boycott of the film. FWICE's warning to Dosanjh Dosanjh has yet to issue an official statement addressing the widespread criticism. But in an interview with BBC Asia, he explained the decision to go ahead with the film's release. 'When the film was being made, the situation was OK. After that, there's been a lot of things…that are not in our hands,' said Dosanjh. Sardaar Ji 3 will not be released in India while it was released overseas, including in Pakistan, on 27 June. Early reports say the film's initial screenings in the neighbouring country have been 'houseful'. Meanwhile, FWICE has written a letter to Bhushan Kumar of T-Series, which is backing Border 2. The letter called the decision to retain Dosanjh in the cast a 'blatant violation' of its directive to boycott him. 'By choosing to collaborate with an artist who has so brazenly ignored the ongoing tensions and national sentiment, your production has directly undermined the stand taken by the Indian film industry in solidarity with the nation,' read the open letter, dated 24 June. Border 2 is the sequel to JP Dutta's cult classic war film Border (1997), set during the India-Pakistan war of 1971. Dosanjh plays a key role in the film. 'We have written to the National Defence Academy and [Defence Minister] Rajnath Singh about not giving permission to Border 2 for shooting. Dosanjh is challenging the entire country. It is a matter of national security,' said Tiwari. FWICE has not yet received a response from either the government or the makers of Border 2. The film workers' union also issued a letter to Dosanjh on 26 June. 'As an Indian, your first responsibility is towards your country. You have failed in that regard, and your professional choices have made it abundantly clear that the nation's interest is not your priority,' the letter states. It goes on to inform Dosanjh of the punitive measures being initiated. 'FWICE hereby issues a Non-Cooperation Directive against you with immediate effect. All associations affiliated with FWICE and their members are instructed not to cooperate with you on any current or future projects until such time as you publicly disassociate from the said collaboration and issue an unconditional apology to the Indian film fraternity and the citizens of India,' it further warns. IIT Bombay, Kharagpur, & others on UGC's defaulter list for non-compliance of anti-ragging norms
Four Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and three Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are on the defaulter list for not complying with anti-ragging norms, according to officials at the University Grants Commission (UGC). The UGC has issued show-cause notices to 89 institutions across the country for not submitting mandatory compliance undertakings of anti-ragging norms. On the defaulter list are 17 Institutes of National Importance, including IITs, IIMs, AIIMS and NIDs. The defaulters IITs are – IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Palakkad and IIT Hyderabad. Similarly, IIM Bombay, IIM Rohtak and IIM Tiruchirpalli are also on the list. The defaulters also include AIIMS Raebareli and National Institute of Design — Delhi, Andhra Pradesh and Haryana. 'It has come to the attention of UGC that these institutions have failed to submit the mandatory Anti-Ragging undertakings by students and compliance undertaking by the institutions, despite multiple advisories issued by the UGC, follow-up calls from the Anti-Ragging Helpline, and direct interventions by the Anti Ragging Monitoring Agency,' said UGC Secretary Manish Joshi. 'Adherence to the UGC Regulation on Ragging, 2009 is mandatory for all Higher Education Institutions (HEls). Failure to comply not only violates UGC guidelines but also compromises student safety, particularly in light of increasing concerns about ragging-related distress and campus hostility,' he added. The UGC has warned the defaulter institutions of withdrawing UGC Grants and Funding, impacting financial assistance and research projects and de-recognition or withdrawal of affiliation, if the norms are not complied with 30 days. National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Hyderabad; Aligarh Muslim University; Nalanda University; IGNOU and Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata are among other prominent institutions on the defaulter list. The Anti-Ragging Regulations, 2009 mandate that every student and their parents and guardians must submit an anti-ragging undertaking at the time of admission and at the beginning of every academic year.
