Rooney says Brady questioning work ethic was unfair
Former New England Patriots quarterback Brady, minority owner of Birmingham, in an Amazon Prime documentary series titled, 'Built In Birmingham: Brady & The Blues', had said he was a little worried about Rooney's work ethic.
Ex-Manchester United and England forward Rooney, 39, was dismissed as the manager of Birmingham in January last year after less than three months in the role, following a winless run that left the club hovering above the relegation zone.
"I think Tom came in once, which was the day before a game where the days are a little bit lighter anyway, and I don't think he really understood football that well," Rooney said on the Wayne Rooney Show podcast.
"But what he does understand is, he's a hard worker, we know that."
"Football is not NFL – NFL works for three months a year. Players do need rest as well, so I think he's very unfair, the way he's come out and portrayed that."
Seven-times Super Bowl champion Brady became a minority owner in Birmingham in August 2023.
"Listen, I respect Tom Brady massively," Rooney said.
"He's one of the greatest, if not the greatest athletes of all time and Birmingham do look like they're getting it right now, which is good, and I think what they have done is got the players out that they needed to get out."

York football fan to fly plane to Cornwall for match
A football fan from Yorkshire is planning a 600-mile (about 970km) round trip to Cornwall to watch his home team's opening league City fan David Bower is aiming to pilot a four-seater Piper Warrior to Newquay Airport on Saturday morning, before making the onward journey to newly-promoted Truro match will be Truro City's first ever in the National League, the fifth tier of English Bower said he was unsure how he and his brother - who is flying with him - would make their way from the airport to the ground, but would sort it out on the day. He said: "I am a runner, it's about 15 miles so it would probably take about two hours, but my brother wouldn't want to do that - we'll probably take a taxi or get the bus."Mr Bower has had a pilot's licence for about 30 years and has flown to three previous York City games, though the furthest he had previously flown was Exeter. Mr Bower said he "couldn't believe it" when he saw York's opening fixture, as Truro's manager John Askey previously managed York, adding "he was well liked".Mr Bower predicted York should beat Truro as they were a "fluid attacking side" that played a "really nice style of football".However he said he was "really pleased" Truro, whose players include ex-York City striker Sam Sanders, were promoted last season and felt they should "do alright"."Truro are the unknown entity, aren't they, so I hope they do well - apart from Saturday."

Report: NFL investigating case of free agent WR Isaiah Bond
August 15 - The NFL is looking into the now-closed criminal case against former Texas wide receiver Isaiah Bond, who announced on social media that he expects to sign with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent. NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy told Friday that the case was under review, despite a grand jury in Collin County, Texas, deciding Thursday not to indict Bond on a sexual account charge following his arrest in April. He still could face punishment under the league's personal conduct policy once he signs with a team. He posted to X on Thursday that would be the Browns, although the team's front office has not confirmed that. "First and foremost, I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Cleveland Browns for believing in me and allowing me the opportunity to continue my career in the NFL," Bond said. "Football has been my passion since I was six years old, and playing at this level is a blessing I will never take for granted. I understand that playing in the NFL is a privilege, and I'm thankful every day to live my childhood dream. "I know there have been questions and reports about the recent allegations. I am grateful for the decision of the prosecutor and the courts not to pursue charges. I will learn from this experience as I grow in wisdom, character, and faith. On the advice of my attorney, I will not discuss the details of this case, but I want to be clear: from the very beginning I have refuted these allegations and maintained my innocence. I stand firm by that today." At Texas, Bond played just one season after transferring from Alabama. The Georgia native caught 34 catches for 540 yards, reeling in five touchdowns over 14 games. Bond ran a 4.39 40-yard-dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. And while he was expected to be a Day 2 draft pick -- ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. had pegged him as a late second-round pick -- he was not selected, reportedly over character concerns as well as his size (5-foot-11, 180 pounds). --Field Level Media
