A video of a teenager with Down syndrome going into a store alone has racked up 16 million views on Instagram.
The wholesome footage, shared by proud parents Kimberly and Devon DowDell, 47, shows their 14-year-old son completing a task that "might not seem like a big deal" to others, according to the caption.
But to Jack—who has a genetic condition whereby a person has an extra chromosome—buying a drink on his own meant everything, as seen in the video.
Newsweek spoke to his mom, who lives in Utah. She said: "As his parents, it can be hard for us because we want him to be independent, but we worry and find ourselves wanting to hover."

This is exactly what his dad did when Jack was in the store—spied from outside and filmed him through the window.
Despite their worries, Jack always proves his parents wrong.
DowDell told Newsweek: "Jack teaches us every day about how to smile through life and to feel excitement and joy through even the smallest things like getting a Slurpee!"
The August 5 video shows Jack sitting in the back of the car while his dad hypes him up and goes over what he must do. DowDell told Newsweek that they practiced several times before leaving him to his own devices.
"We also practiced having him pay with us by his side and he did well, so we knew he was ready to go alone, but were still very nervous for him," she said.
"This video captured the very first time he did this on his own. Now that he's done it once, he's excited to do it on his own every time."
At the end of the clip, Jack can be seen enthusiastically calling his mom to tell her about his milestone. The heartwarming video has resonated widely, racking up 1.1 million likes and a whopping 33,500 comments.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says Down syndrome can affect how a person's brain and body develop, but that doesn't mean those with it can't live a healthy and happy life. As demonstrated by Jack.
"This is a huge deal! It made my heart so happy!" said one user, while another wrote: "We're all rooting for you Jack."
"My daughter with Down syndrome just turned one. I can't wait for the moment of pride she has when she picks up a Slurpee for herself (and maybe grabs me a coffee too)," shared a third user.
"If you need me I'll be in my car crying. Proud stranger," said a fourth user.

Lil Yachty apologizes to Stephen Jackson over 'demeaning' George Floyd lyric

Stephen Jackson and Lil Yachty are seemingly on good terms after the former NBA star called out the rapper for mentioning the late George Floyd in an unreleased track. Lil Yachty, whose real name is Miles McCollum, shared a snippet of a track during a recent Twitch livestream, according to Rolling Stone and Billboard. The song reportedly featured a lyric about Floyd, a 46-year-old black man who died in May 2020 after a white Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his head and neck for nearly 10 minutes while arresting him. 'Put my knee up on her neck, I went George Floyd,' Yachty rapped on the song, per Billboard. Jackson condemned the 'One Night' rapper in a now-deleted Instagram post, calling the lyric 'demeaning' and writing, 'Don't ever say his name, bro. None of y'all knew G. Nothing about him.' The San Antonio Spurs alum has long been open about the loss of his friend Floyd, revealing in 2020 that the pair grew up in the same Houston, Texas neighborhood. USA TODAY has reached out to Lil Yachty's representatives for comment. Jackson says Yachty apologized for distasteful lyric In an Aug. 14 Instagram story, the 'All the Smoke' podcast host later revealed that he is no longer upset with Yachty after the musician reached out and apologized. 'I took my post down about Yachty because I'm emotional about George. I apologized to him. We spoke and he apologized as well,' Jackson said. 'I salute him. Not a lot of people like to own up to when they [expletive] up.' Jackson added that he agreed a public apology was unnecessary after the two worked things out, and as Yachty understands the frustration caused by the lyrics. He added that he never had an issue with Yachty directly, but rather the idea of it being okay for people to demean the dead. He later added in an Aug. 15 Instagram post that he won't be discussing the situation in interviews, adding that 'he's a smart young man' and 'We move on from it.'

Anna Faris, Regina Hall to star in 'Scary Movie' reboot after 20 years: 'Fab four is back'

Anna Faris and Regina Hall are returning to their roots. Not only are the Wayans brothers – Marlon, Shawn and Keenen Ivory Wayans – on board for "Scary Movie 6," two of the franchise's original stars will also reunite for the reboot, according to an announcement on Friday, Aug. 15. "The fab four is back. So excited to work and reunite with these two brilliant women," actor/writer Marlon Wayans wrote in an Instagram post. "We are so proud of all they have done since the inception of the scary movie franchise." He shared the announcement alongside a movie still from "Scary Movie 2," with Faris as Cindy, Marlon Wayans as Shorty, Shawn Wayans as Ray and Hall as Brenda. Hours earlier, Wayans had teased the announcement by posting a photo of Faris and Hall from the original 2000 film alongside a cryptic caption: "👀 SM6." Hall and Faris' last appearance in the horror parody franchise was 2006's "Scary Movie 4." They didn't appear in the 2013 standalone installment, "Scary Movie 5," which made a lukewarm showing at the box office. Both women found their breakout roles in "Scary Movie," with Faris taking her comedy chops to "My Super Ex-Girlfriend," "The House Bunny" and the CBS series "Mom." Hall starred in "Girls Trip," "Law Abiding Citizen" and "Ally McBeal." The creative minds behind the franchise, the Wayans brothers were only involved in the first two films. Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce set podcast records together with 'New Heights' appearance

Taylor Swift's podcast debut was a smash hit. The music superstar's appearance on "New Heights" alongside boyfriend and Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce and brother Jason Kelce set records for viewership. Wednesday's podcast set a record on YouTube for concurrent viewers - the number of individual people watching a live stream at the same time - with a peak of 1.3 million. As of Friday evening, the episode has surpassed 15 million views. The live stream crashed nearly two hours in with more than 1 million people watching as she answered more questions about her 12th album "The Life of a Showgirl." She revealed the album art on the podcast and went into detail with the Kelce brothers about what went into the album as well as featured guest artists. DATE NIGHTS: Travis Kelce finally posts Taylor Swift photos on Instagram Per Front Office Sports, people are catching parts of the episode on other platforms, too. Clips from the show have totaled more than 61 million views on X, 34.5 million on TikTok and 379 million on Instagram. The "New Heights" YouTube channel has also seen more than 400,000 new subscribers since the episode went live. The show's Instagram page surpassed 3 million followers as well. Swift's appearance with the Kelce brothers on "New Heights," was initially teased on Monday, Aug. 11, with a promo announcing Swift's new album. The "New Heights" podcast moved up to No. 1 on the Apple podcast charts before the episode became available. Swift, in a subsequent clip released in the lead-up to the episode's debut, also poked fun at "male sports fans" for showing up on the Kelces' podcast given the reception she has received at times for her appearances at Chiefs games. "I think we all know that if there's one thing that male sports fans want to see in their spaces and on their screens, it's more of me," Swift joked. Swift and Travis Kelce have been dating for the past two years and the couple remain a pop culture fascination ahead of the 2025 NFL season. Kelce's celebrity and the podcast he co-hosts with his brother has, in turn, skyrocketed in popularity. "New Heights" is reportedly worth $100 million after being licensed by Wonderly last year. Kelce admitted in a recent GQ cover story that his forays into Hollywood and entertainment might have played a role in why his production "slipped" the past two seasons. He had a cameo role in "Happy Gilmore 2" and one season as host of Amazon Prime Video's game show, "Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?" Swift, Kelce said, is more aligned with his goal of a bounce back year and another Super Bowl title with the Chiefs. Jason Kelce even introduced Swift to the "New Heights" audience as having won one Super Bowl alongside his younger brother. "I sort of made her a football fan," Travis Kelce told GQ. "She is the most engulfed fan now. She knows what the injury reports look like. She understands what special situations are, third and short – all these things because she just naturally loves to hear about my job."
