Lewis Hamilton says he's ‘useless' and suggests a driver change at Ferrari after teammate takes pole
It was a new low in a difficult first season with Ferrari for seven-time Formula 1 champion Hamilton, who qualified outside the top 10 for the second race in a row.
'I'm useless, absolutely useless,' Hamilton told British broadcaster Sky Sports.
'The team have no problem. You've seen the car's on pole. So they probably need to change driver.'
Hamilton had said 'every time, every time' over the radio after he was eliminated in the second part of qualifying. That signified that 'it's me every time,' he clarified to Sky later.
Hamilton has yet to finish on the podium in a Grand Prix race with Ferrari, with a best finish of fourth, though he did win a sprint race in China in March.
Leclerc is fifth in the standings, only one position ahead of Hamilton, but has five podium finishes in 2005. In Sunday's race, he'll aim to give Ferrari its first F1 win since October.
Last week, Hamilton said it was 'crunch time' and revealed he's been holding a series of meetings with Ferrari executives to discuss improvements and ensure he has more of a say in how the team develops its car for the sweeping regulation changes coming in 2026.

Ademola Lookman requests transfer from Atalanta citing broken promises and poor treatment
BERGAMO, Italy (AP) — Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has handed the club a formal transfer request, the player said Sunday. Lookman made the announcement with a statement posted on Instagram. The 27-year-old said the request was made 'after many months of broken promises and what I feel has been poor treatment towards me as both a human being and as a professional footballer. 'Sadly I feel I have no choice but to speak out for what I believe is right and I feel that enough is enough,' he said. He said in the statement that it had already been decided that it was the 'right time' for him 'to move on and experience a new adventure.' He said he and the club ownership had been 'in agreement' that now was the right time for a transfer, and that the club agreed to let him leave if a fair offer was made. He said an offer did arrive but now the club was not sticking to its end of the agreement. 'Despite now receiving an offer in alignment to what I believe had been discussed, sadly the club are blocking the opportunity for reasons I do not understand,' he said. Lookman did not give other details about the offer. ___ AP soccer:

(AP Photo/Mark Thiessen) DENALI PARK, Alaska — A driver was killed and a passenger in his car injured after hitting a moose near the entrance to Alaska's Denali National Park and Preserve. The vehicle's collision with the moose occurred around 1 a.m. Friday, just south of the entrance to the Denali Park Road near Mile 235 of the George Parks Highway, also referred to as the Parks Highway, the park said in a statement. The 24-year-old male driver, who was from Bulgaria, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 24-year-old female passenger, who is from North Macedonia, was taken to a Fairbanks hospital. The U.S. National Park Service is investigating the incident and working with the Bulgarian Embassy to notify the driver's family. 'The collision serves as a sobering reminder of the hazards of wildlife along Alaska's roadways,' the park said. 'Moose, caribou, and other large animals are often active at dawn, dusk, and nighttime hours, and can be difficult to see.' The park urged drivers to slow down in dark conditions and use high-beam headlights. The Associated Press
