‘You shall have it,' Elon Musk launches new political party - ‘America Party' - after Trump's tax bill passes
Musk revealed the development on his X platform, citing a poll he conducted showing that 65% of respondents supported the idea of launching an 'America Party.' The yes-or-no survey earned more than 1.2 million responses.
"By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!" he posted on Saturday.
'Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.'
Musk also shared a meme depicting a two-headed snake and the caption 'End the Uniparty.'
Musk, the world's richest man, didn't provide details. He floated the idea as Congress prepared to pass Trump's budget package, which will end of a popular $7,500 consumer tax credit for electric vehicle purchases this year.
It is not clear how much impact the new party would have on the 2026 mid-term elections, or on the presidential vote two years after that.
The Trump-Musk feud reignited in dramatic fashion late last month as Trump pushed Republicans in Congress to ram through his massive domestic agenda in the form of the One Big Beautiful Bill.
Musk expressed fierce opposition to the legislation, and ruthlessly attacked its Republican backers for supporting "debt slavery."
He vowed to launch a new political party to challenge lawmakers who campaigned on reduced federal spending only to vote for the bill, which experts say will pile an extra $3.4 trillion over a decade onto the US deficit.
The feud with Trump, often described as one between the world's richest man and the world's most powerful, has led to several precipitous falls in Tesla's share price.
The stock soared after Trump's November reelection and hit a high of more than $488 in December, before losing more than half of its value in April and closing last week out at $315.35.

Congress slams Centre as World Bank report highlights poverty, inequality in India
NEW DELHI: The Congress expressed concerns on Sunday over a recent World Bank report that said poverty and inequality remain concerningly high in India, and requested the Centre to take steps, including bringing in GST reforms and ending corporate favouritism. Citing the World Bank's poverty and equity brief for India in April 2025, Congress general secretary, communications, Jairam Ramesh said three months after its release, the Narendra Modi government's "drumbeaters and cheerleaders have begun spinning the World Bank's data to make the staggeringly out-of-touch claim that India is among the world's most equal societies". He said in a statement issued on April 27, the Congress had highlighted some of the key concerns that the World Bank had raised in its report. "These concerns continue to be relevant, and any attempt to engage with the report must grapple with them seriously," the Congress leader said. He said the World Bank report highlights that wage disparity is high in India, with the median earnings of the top 10 per cent being 13 times higher than the bottom 10 per cent in 2023-24. "Moreover, 'sampling and data limitations suggest that consumption inequality (as measured by government data) may be underestimated'. "More updated data (adoption of purchasing power parity conversion factor from 2021 as compared to that of 2017) would result in a higher rate of extreme poverty," Ramesh said in a statement, citing the report. He said the report also stated that changes in the questionnaire design, survey implementation and sampling in the Household Consumption Expenditure Survey 2022-23 "present challenges for making comparisons over time". "As a lower middle-income country, the appropriate rate to measure poverty in India is that of USD 3.65/day. By this measure, the poverty rate for India in 2022 is significantly higher at 28.1 per cent," Ramesh said, citing the report. "The report is therefore rather clear: poverty remains concerningly high, and so does inequality," the former Union minister added. He said the good news that the Centre is so desperately trying to wrangle out of this report is partly attributable to the limited availability and uncertain quality of government data as well as to the selection of benchmarks to measure poverty. "No country that has a poverty rate of 28.1 per cent can make a justifiable claim to being one of the most equal societies in the world," the Congress leader said. He added that in the statement issued by his party in April, "we had also outlined several takeaways for Indian policymakers from the report. These also continue to remain relevant".

Tyagi on Sunday hit out at Congress, questioning its alliance with the Shiv Sena and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), while accusing the Maharashtra-based party of targeting Hindi-speaking people. Notably, Khemka's murder has created political controversy in the poll-bound state of Bihar, with opposition attacking Nitish Kumar for being a 'puppet' Chief Minister. When people rise, BJP backtracks: Kharge on revision of electoral rolls
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge accused the BJP on Sunday of conspiring to deprive the people of Bihar of their voter rights through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and said the voters of the state would teach the saffron party a lesson for its attack on democracy and the Constitution. He cited a new advertisement issued by the Election Commission (EC), urging the voters of Bihar to only fill a form under the SIR, and alleged that "when people rise, BJP backtracks". "With the support of the Election Commission, the master plan that the BJP had devised to deprive crores of people in Bihar of their voting rights now seems to be ensnaring the BJP itself," Kharge alleged in a post in Hindi on X. He said from the very first day, the Congress has been raising its voice against the SIR. "Why are people who have been voting election after election being asked to show their documents for voting? "Forcibly depriving the poor, weak, deprived, Dalits, oppressed and backward people of their voting rights is the conspiracy of the BJP-RSS," he alleged. The Congress chief claimed that nearly eight crore people will suffer because of the SIR. "The responsibility to correct the voter list lies with the EC, not the public. "When the pressure from the opposition, the public and civil society increased, the Election Commission hurriedly published these advertisements today, which state that now only a form needs to be filled and showing documents is not necessary," he claimed. "This is part of the BJP's tactic to mislead and confuse the public. The truth is that the BJP has decided it will crush democracy at all costs.
