Haroon Akhtar Khan reaffirmed the government's commitment to a clean and prosperous Pakistan, stating, 'Our mission is a smog-free, pollution-free, and prosperous pakistan.' As part of the NEV Policy, he announced that electric vehicle charging stations will be set up nationwide to ensure convenience for the public and to encourage the transition towards clean and sustainable transportation.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the association made a direct appeal to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Rashid Mehmood Langrial, calling for the immediate withdrawal of what it has described as "black laws" that have raised alarm across Pakistan's business community. PYMA Chairman Muhammad Saqib Goodluck, while voicing the concerns of yarn traders and related stakeholders, stated that these new legal provisions would open the doors to unchecked harassment and intimidation of legitimate businesses. He said that empowering FBR officials with wide-ranging discretionary powers under Articles 37-A and 37-B is unjust but sends a negative signal to entrepreneurs and industrialists already grappling with inflation, high utility costs, and uncertain policy environments. "If the government is genuinely serious about increasing tax revenues, it must create an environment that encourages businesses to grow and prosper," Saqib Goodluck asserted. "Thriving businesses contribute more to the national exchequer. But policies that stifle entrepreneurship will only shrink the tax base and hurt the economy." He further stated that these laws portray business owners as suspects instead of law-abiding citizens, warning that actions based merely on suspicion erode the principles of fairness and justice. The statement added that, calling for a change in direction, the PYMA chief urged the government to introduce policies focused on economic growth and improving the ease of doing business. "Such measures will help ensure industrial sustainability, generate employment, and ultimately strengthen the national economy," he concluded.

PM lauds KSA's role in truce with India
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday appreciated the efforts by Saudi Arabia for peace in the Middle East as well as its significant role in the ceasefire understanding between Pakistan and India. The prime minister said this in a meeting with Ambassador of Saudi Arabia in Islamabad Nawaf bin Saeed Al Malkiy, while fondly recalling his warm and cordial telephone conversation with the Saudi Crown Prince on June 24 to discuss the regional situation. The prime minister told the ambassador that as Pakistan had assumed the rotating Presidency of the UN Security Council for the month of July, it would count on Saudi Arabia's support to ensure that its tenure was conducted smoothly and successfully. The Saudi ambassador thanked the prime minister for Pakistan's role in peace and stability in the region. FBR Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday applauded the Ministry of Finance and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for achieving a historic 42% increase in federal tax revenues during the fiscal year 2024-25 - the highest surge in the past decade. The prime minister chaired a high-level weekly review meeting on the digitization and reform agenda of the FBR, whereas during the briefing, it was revealed that reforms and enforcement of new tax laws enabled the government to collect an additional Rs 865 billion in revenues compared to the previous year, an eightfold increase.

"During the Summit, the Prime Minister will share Pakistan's perspective on key regional and global challenges, reaffirm Pakistan's commitment to the ECO Vision 2025, and advocate for enhanced intra-regional trade, transport connectivity, energy cooperation, and sustainable development," the Foreign Office said in a statement. The prime minister will also hold bilateral meetings with other ECO leaders on the sidelines of the summit to discuss matters of mutual interest.
