Shanthi Krishna still dreams of lead roles; says Mohanlal and Mammootty may not consider her now; 'But audiences will accept me'
Shanthi Krishna
, one of
Malayalam cinema
's most beloved actresses, has candidly expressed her desire to return as a leading lady opposite the industry's biggest stars—Mohanlal and
Mammootty
.
In a heartfelt interview with Kaumudy Movies, the actress admitted that while the wish still lives strong within her, she's unsure if filmmakers or even the actors themselves would be open to casting her as a heroine again.
'They won't think of me anymore. After playing mother roles, like Nivin Pauly's and Fahadh Faasil's mother, they might feel it's no longer appropriate,' she said.
'Audiences will accept me'
Despite her doubts about being considered by the industry, Shanthi Krishna remains confident about how viewers would respond. 'If they do cast me even today, Malayali audiences will wholeheartedly accept it,' she said, her tone both firm and hopeful. It's a sentiment that echoes the affection audiences still hold for actors of her generation—especially ones who've seamlessly balanced grace, maturity, and emotional depth in every role.

A new chapter in Kochi
Now settled in Kochi, she shared her joy in finally owning her first home at the age of 60. 'I've become a child of Kerala again,' she said with warmth. Her house, named Sreekrishnam, is located right next to the Sree Krishna temple—a location that immediately drew her in. After years of living in Bengaluru, mostly due to her children's education, her heart has finally found its way back home. 'My friends insisted I move here, and now I feel like I belong again,' she added.

CM Pinarayi Vijayan slams communal narratives in cinema, inaugurates Kerala Film Policy Conclave
THIRUVANTHAPURAM: Condemning a recent National Award-winning film for misrepresenting Kerala and discrediting its globally respected secularism, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan urged the state's film fraternity to unite against the misuse of cinema as a medium for spreading communal narratives. Speaking at the inauguration of the two-day Kerala Film Policy Conclave in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday, the Chief Minister emphasised the need to uphold the cultural and secular foundations of Malayalam cinema. The conclave is aimed at formulating the state's first comprehensive film policy through democratic and inclusive dialogue. "This is not the recognition of art, but an endorsement of a toxic cultural tendency. Malayalam cinema has achieved greatness by being rooted in truth, humaneness, and a secular way of life, a foundation now under attack," said Pinarayi Vijayan. He added that the conclave provided an opportunity to confront these challenges and shape a policy that preserves both cultural values and the rights of industry workers. Minister for Cultural Affairs Saji Cherian, who presided over the function, said the decision to host the conclave followed a meeting between women film workers and the Chief Minister, during which key concerns within the industry were raised. "This is a free and democratic platform. A committee was constituted in response to those concerns. Its recommendations, along with findings from other reports such as Adoor Gopalakrishnan's, highlighted the urgent need for a formal film policy," said Cherian.

The makers have officially announced that the film 'Coolie', directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and starring superstar Rajinikanth, has now received an 'A' (Adults Only) certificate after being reviewed by the censor board. As a result, fans expect the impact of fight scenes and violence to be high. It is said that this 'A' certificate was given to 'Coolie' without making any concessions, and to preserve the overall action of the film. Here's a closer look at it.
