Nightingale House Hospice Wrexham challenge for Luke Nixon

Luke Nixon, now working as a doctor in South Wales, is taking on the challenge in loving memory of his mum, who was a dedicated supporter of the hospice and a regular at the annual Midnight Walk. Luke said: "My mum passed away from cancer just over two years ago, and it was incredibly unexpected even with the diagnosis. "She always did the Midnight Walk and believed it was a great bit of 'silly' fun for a wonderful cause. "The year after she passed, we did the walk in her memory, and this year I wanted to step it up in a way that combined her spirit with something personal to me." Luke Nixon will be completing the Midnight Walk in full scuba gear. Known for his love of endurance challenges, Luke has previously taken on gruelling events such as Murph, Hyrox, and Chadx1000, but this is his first challenge designed entirely for charity. Luke said: "After brainstorming with family and friends, we came up with the idea of me doing the whole walk in full scuba gear. "I think it's exactly the sort of ridiculous idea mum would've loved, and I hope it raises lots of funds for such an essential cause." "Dress up as brightly as you can, cover yourself in glow sticks, I'm going to see how many I can fit on my scuba gear, and just enjoy it." Luke Nixon carried a photo of his mum on a previous Midnight Walk. Luke has set up a JustGiving page where supporters can sponsor his efforts: The Midnight Walk will take place on Saturday, June 7, starting from Llwyn Isaf, Wrexham, with the choice of a 5k or 10k route. Hundreds of participants are set to light up the streets in support of hospice care. All funds raised from the event go directly to supporting patients and families at Nightingale House Hospice, which provides compassionate care for those with life limiting and progressive illnesses. • To find out more or register for the Midnight Walk, visit:

But Ian Poulter's son Luke fell just short of booking his spot in the field for the upcoming US Open. Bryson DeChambeau will attempt to defend his crown at Oakmont next week. Despite his best efforts, though, Poulter Jr will not be teeing it up. Amateur Luke, 21, put himself in serious contention with a stunning bogey-free round of 65 in his second round at Emerald Dunes Golf Club on Tuesday. That saw him finish tied fourth after 36 holes - ahead of the likes of Graeme McDowell and Nicolai Hojgaard. But with just four spots up for grabs at the US Open, the University of Florida student went into a play-off with Austen Truslow. Truslow has made eight PGA Tour starts. But for Poulter Jr, ranked as the world No3228, he can take pride from his superb effort - especially as it came just a year after suffering a stress fracture in his back. But dad Ian - who has 16 points and five Ryder Cup wins to his name - remains very proud of his lad's achievements. LIV Golf rebel Poulter Sr said: "I can't believe how impressive today's 65 was to get into that position. "We keep using this as incredible experience and we keep getting better. "[Luke's got] an alternate spot but not sure what number it will be." Incredibly, Poulter Jr was not the only son of a sporting father in contention.
