Jimmy Thelin confirms Aberdeen contract talks ongoing with Shayden Morris and other Scottish Cup final heroes

A number of Dons players are into the final year of their contracts in the Granite City
Jimmy Thelin has confirmed that contract talks are ongoing with Shayden Morris and several others from Aberdeen 's Scottish Cup-winning squad.

The fans' favourite has been the subject of several failed bids from Luton Town.

The winger, 23, is out-of-contract at the end of the season and the Dons are trying to extend that deal.

The likes of captain Graeme Shinnie, Dante Polvara and Ester Sokler are others who are now in the final year of their Pittodrie contracts.
Thelin admitted: 'I think it's a question for Steven (Gunn, Aberdeen's director of football), but we have on-going talks with a lot of players. Let's see.'
The Swede knows that when you are successful and you have good players, like Morris, then there is going to be interest. Thelin has insisted he can't worry about what he cannot impact.
It is about working with what he has, while he has it and trying to improve his players, his squad, his staff and himself.
Thelin acknowledged: 'I think we always have dialogue with all our players and when the time is right, the time is right.

'I don't go into specific players, but of course we have good players and other clubs have eyes on our players also. That's the reality we live in.
'But as long as you're a player, a manager, you have to always focus where you are.
'Otherwise, you stop growing and performing.

'So it's important to always stay in the moment and then what happens, after you're controlling one way, that will happen.
'But when you're a player or a manager, you have to focus where you are.'
Aberdeen's model is and has been for several years based on a player trading model. They regularly sell on talent and that has been the case in recent years from Scott McKenna to the likes of Calvin Ramsay, Lewis Ferguson, Bojan Miovski, Ross McCrorie and Ylber Ramadani.

This summer has been no different. Another cup hero in Pape Gueye has since been sold to Turkish side Kasimpasa earlier this month. Thelin knows others could go before the close of the window and it is about being proactive rather than being reactive.
The Aberdeen manager, when asked about more out-goings, answered: 'No, I think it's difficult to speculate. I think we're taking it day by day now, week by week and the window is still one month away from closing.

'So that's why it's so difficult to see what's going to happen in the future. We have to focus on now.
"We have a competitive game on Sunday and then the rest of the thing is going on in the background. The window is open, so you never know if someone comes in for a player or if you need to rebalance your squad or whatever.
'But we have to focus right now. As long as the window is open, it's on-going work.
'Even when the window is closed, the recruitment department keeps working to the next window. I think when everybody's aligned, they're aligned then things happen.'

Celtic and Aberdeen slammed with partial stadium closures after pyro incidents last season

Both clubs have been docked tickets for an upcoming home game while Partick Thistle have also been sanctioned Celtic and Aberdeen have both been docked 200 tickets for upcoming home games after being found to have breached SPFL rules over pyro and fan behaviour. ‌ And Partick Thistle have also been sanctioned as the SPFL bring the hammer down on three incidents from last season. ‌ Fan behaviour has been a hot button issue in recent seasons with the rise in pyrotechnic displays a particular concern and rule breaches have been identified in three games from last season – Aberdeen vs Celtic on May 14, Celtic vs St Mirren on the final day of the Premiership season, and Ayr United against Partick Thistle in the playoffs. ‌ Sky Sports had to issue an apology in the Dons' clash with the champions after the broadcast was interrupted due to pyro thrown from the home fans. Celtic fans meanwhile displayed pyro on trophy day and both clubs have been docked 200 tickets for an upcoming home game in the area of the stadiums where the incidents took place. Partick Thistle have been hit with a suspended partial stadium closure after their fans displayed pyro and invaded the pitch at Somerset Park. A league statement reads: "The SPFL has confirmed that Aberdeen, Celtic and Partick Thistle have been found to be in breach of SPFL rules following the behaviour of the clubs' supporters at matches towards the end of season 2024/25. "Proceedings into large-scale, organised and illegal pyrotechnic displays at three separate matches in May last season - Aberdeen v Celtic, Celtic v St Mirren and Ayr United v Partick Thistle - have now concluded. "Partick Thistle's rule breach also focused on a large-scale pitch invasion from the club's fans, which led to a two-minute delay later in the same match at Somerset Park. ‌ "All three clubs have been found to have breached SPFL Rules in failing to ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, that their supporters did not engage in 'unacceptable conduct' at those matches. "The clubs were also found to have failed to identify or take proportionate disciplinary measures against the supporters responsible for the pyrotechnic displays, and in Partick Thistle's case, also against those who carried out the pitch invasion. "The pyrotechnics display by Aberdeen fans during the club's game against Celtic, live on Sky Sports, at Pittodrie on May 14 led to the broadcaster having to issue an apology for interruptions to the broadcast following the display, which caused significant smoke clouds to form within the stadium. ‌ "Celtic supporters carried out pyrotechnic displays in the north-east corner of Celtic Park, during and prior to the final league game of the season at home to St Mirren on May 17. "And lastly in a William Hill Premiership playoff quarter final second-leg at Somerset Park on May 9, a two-minute delay to the game occurred due to Partick Thistle fans using pyrotechnics and throwing them onto the pitch. A further two-minute delay occurred later in the match following the large-scale pitch incursion. "These incidents caused a health and safety risk to fellow supporters, players and those working at matches; as well as a significant inconvenience to thousands of supporters at the matches and fans watching these games at home."

Aberdeen approves 7% tourist tax for visitors from 2027 – here's how much it could cost you

Tourists in Aberdeen may have to pay an extra fee when visiting following the approval of a seven per cent visitor levy by councillors. The tourist tax would apply to overnight stays and accommodation in the city in northeastern Scotland and would not come into forced until at least April 2027. The visitor levy in Aberdeen is higher than the five per cent approved in Edinburgh and Glasgow earlier this year. With the average price of a room in Aberdeen currently £70, visitors could expect to pay an additional £4.90 per night. Aberdeen City Council's Finance and Resources Committee heard that the tax could generate up to £6.8m per annum. The council plan to use the money to enhance leisure and business tourism in the city and help pay for tourist infrastructure. In a statement, the council's finance and resources convener Alex McLellan said: "The income generated from the visitor levy, paid by those visiting the city, will provide a huge boost to our local economy and allow us to invest in bringing major events and conferences here of a more regular basis. ' Across Europe we are paying similar amounts to stay per night subsidising their thriving economies, and we should do the same to ensure we can compete in terms of attracting both business and leisure tourism to Aberdeen." The revenue raised will contribute to projects including a fund for business events, expos and major conferences, plus a 'Culture & Events Subvention Fund' for large events, productions, sports championships, exhibitions, and festivals. The report to committee said the measures will allow local authorities to set different rates for different events, such as arts festivals or special conferences. But local authorities cannot vary the type of accommodation the levy applies to. A charge would be added to stays at hotels, bed and breakfasts, hostels, self-catering accommodation, camping sites and caravan parks. It does not apply to cruise ships and motor homes. Following the Scottish Government's act allowing councils to tax on overnight accommodation, Edinburgh became the first to vote in January to add a five per cent surcharge on visitors' overnight stays by 2026. Glasgow followed, approving a tourist tax on accommodation in its city by 2027. Currently, English legislation does not allow cities to create a visitor levy; however, using legal workarounds has meant Liverpool and Manchester have introduced a form of tourism levy. Tourism taxes have also been introduced in popular tourist destinations around the world that have been impacted by overtourism. Stephen Gow, chair of VisitAberdeenshire, said: 'A well-managed scheme that supports the aims of the region's Destination Strategy will drive continued growth of Aberdeen's visitor economy. 'Aberdeen welcomed 2.2m overnight visits in 2024, contributing to an economic impact from tourism of over £500 million. 'The headroom for growth in the leisure and conference sectors will be fulfilled through effective investment in promotion, events, and development of the tourism sector.'

Aberdeen, Celtic and Partick Thistle have been warned they will be slapped with ticket reductions and stand closures on the back of rule breaches involving the use of pyrotechnics and pitch invasions.
