Reaching Final Still A Big Achievement For Sri Pahang
KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 (Bernama) -- Sri Pahang FC defender Adam Nor Azlin feels that despite their 2-1 defeat by Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) in the Malaysia Cup final last night, it has still been a massive achievement for the Elephants.
He said the supporters themselves can judge their performance which, overall, saw them play with high spirits against the Super League giants and even going 1-0 up in the first half.
"Although we lost, we feel that having reached the final is already an achievement. That's why we fought from the start to the end.

"Our supporters can judge us however they want but, to me, we will continue to play and perform at the highest level… perhaps we could have focused much better (against JDT). We are definitely disappointed that we lost but that's the name of the game… sometimes you play well but you still lose and sometimes you play badly but still end up winning,' said the former JDT player after the final at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil here last night.
Sri Pahang, under coach Fandi Ahmad, had earlier stunned JDT when they took a 1-0 lead through winger T. Saravanan in the 14th minute.
Undaunted, the Southern Tigers fought back to equalise through prolific marksman Bergson Da Silva in the 54th minute before Arif Aiman Mohd Hanapi sealed their fightback with the winning goal in the 74th minute.
Adam, meanwhile, was full of praise for the commitment shown by his teammates in the high-intensity final.
"Alhamdulillah, everyone played their best,' he said.
Both teams ended up playing with 10 men each after referee Razlan Joffri Ali sent off Sri Pahang striker Sergio Aguero and JDT defender Park Jun Heong.

Thinaah stormed into the Indonesian Open final after an impressive win over China's world No. 6 Li Yijing-Luo Xumin. Pearly-Thinaah displayed great fighting spirit and determination to come from behind to claim a 12-21, 21-17, 21-11 victory in 64 minutes at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta on Saturday (June 7). Pearly-Thinaah achieved the personal milestone after avenging their defeat to Yijing-Xuomin in the China Open last September. Standing in Pearly-Thinaah's way to their biggest title so far will either be another Chinese pair, world No. 1 Liu Shengshu-Tan Ning or South Korea's world No. 3 Baek Ha-na-Lee So-hee. Meanwhile, the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury sustained by national men's singles shuttler Ng Tze Yong may well see him struggle to regain his old form, said former world number one Roslin Hashim. The ex-national shuttler also admitted that even before the ACL injury, Tze Yong's performances of late had been quite shaky since returning to action in April following a back injury. 'When Tze Yong sustained the lower back injury previously, he had to undergo surgery… now he has got an ACL injury (knee). These two lower parts of the body are extremely crucial to a shuttler. 'When he came back to action (after his lower back injury), his performance wasn't that stable either. At an age where he should be reaching his peak powers but, unfortunately, he has suffered another serious injury and his recovery this time will take a long time. So, it will be difficult for Tze Yong to regain his old form,' he said. The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) confirmed in a statement that Tze Yong suffered an ACL injury, with the 25-year-old shuttler also admitting to finding it hard to accept this latest injury blow after all the efforts he had put in to get back to action. BAM singles coaching director Kenneth Jonassen said Tze Yong, who may be sidelined for nine to 12 months, is currently undergoing prehabilitation (prehab) to strengthen the knee and the surrounding muscles ahead of the scheduled surgery for the ACL injury he sustained at the 2025 Malaysia Masters last month. Tze Yong has suffered various injuries, including a muscle tear in his back followed by a spinal injury since last year and underwent a long period of rest and rehabilitation before returning to action in the Badminton Asia Championship 2025 in Ningbo, China, in April. Despite his bleak assessment of Tze Yong's situation, Roslin, however, hopes the 2022 Commonwealth Games men's singles silver medallist possesses a burning desire and determination to fight back from adversity. 'I sympathise with Tze Yong, I hope he remains strong. If he intends to get back on the court, he will need every ounce of his inner strength and remain steadfast in facing this latest setback,' he said. Wei Chong-Kai Wun had beaten world No. 8 Sabar-Moh in the last four last year but the latter avenged their defeat by coming out on top 18-21, 21-12, 21-18 at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta on Saturday (June 7). World No. 7 Wei Chong-Kai Wun did well to come back and win the second game after losing the first but could not maintain their form against the spirited duo in the decider and lost in the match lasting an hour. Sabar-Moh will take on either teammates Fajar Alfian-Rian Ardianto or South Korea's Kim Won-ho-Seo Seung-jae for the title on Sunday (June 8).

Dutch-born footballer impressed by Malaysia's Super League
KUALA LUMPUR: The Netherlands-born playmaker, Hector Hevel, is impressed by the standard of Malaysia's Super League. The 29-year-old said the competition was better than he expected. Hevel, who recently debuted for Harimau Malaya, confirmed he will be signing for Johor Darul Ta'zim following his stint in Portugal with Portimonense. "You can tell the quality of the Super League by the local boys in the national team," said Hevel. "They have a certain level and most of them play in the Super League, so it says something about the quality here." Hevel, whose grandfather is from Melaka, has featured in top-flight football across Europe. Still, he noted that the Super League here holds its own in terms of competitiveness and technical ability. "Maybe the rhythm is a little faster in Europe, but overall, football is football," he said. "Every country has its own style. What matters is how well teams execute their ideas." Hevel made an instant impact on debut for Malaysia, scoring against Nepal in Harimau Malaya's opening Asian Cup qualifying match in March. His performance quickly endeared him to fans and showed that he could be a key figure for both club and country. Hevel will be counted upon to lead Malaysia's midfield against Vietnam in an Asian Cup qualifier in Bukit Jalil on June 10.
