Over 10,000 expected at Yang di-Pertuan Agong's birthday celebration in Limbang

MIRI (May 29): More than 10,000 visitors from Sarawak, Sabah, Brunei, and the Federal Territory of Labuan are expected to enliven the official celebration of the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong's Birthday in Sarawak, which will be held in Limbang from June 11 to June 15.
Minister in-charge of the event, Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, at a press conference today said the Limbang Division has been chosen as the host for this year's celebration.
He said the event is hosted by a different division each year to promote awareness of the monarchy's significance among all levels of Sarawakian society.
'We are giving every division in Sarawak, including Limbang, the opportunity to host the official celebration of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's Birthday. This year, Limbang was selected to give its people a chance to understand the significance and importance of the monarchy institution.
'In the context of unity, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is a symbol of strength for our country's ethnic diversity and serves as a balance for justice and welfare among Malaysians,' said Sagah.
Sagah, who is also the State Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development, said various exciting programmes will be held throughout the five-day celebration.
Among the highlights are Interfaith Thanksgiving Ceremony at the Limbang Civic Centre (June 11), 'Raja Kita' Exhibition at the Limbang Civic Centre (June 12 to 15), Special Sermons at all mosques in Sarawak (June 13), Thanksgiving Ceremony at the Jannatul Firdaus Mosque, Limbang at 6pm (June 13), and Tea Reception at the Limbang Civic Center (June 14).
There will also be side events such as Limbang Kitchen, Limbang Idol, and more.

Anwar shares royal compliment on Malaysia's medical expertise

"His answer was that he follows developments here and sees Malaysia as a country on the rise, with significant potential. That's why he chose to come," he said. Embaló arrived today for a three-day visit—his first since taking office as president in February 2020. Malaysia and Guinea-Bissau established diplomatic relations in November 1974. In 2024, Malaysia's total trade with Guinea-Bissau reached RM4.1 million, with Malaysian exports amounting to RM4.04 million and imports standing at RM0.06 million.

Raja Muda of Selangor promotes youth empowerment, global collaboration in London
KUALA LUMPUR: The Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, brought together thought leaders, youth-focused institutions and members of the Malaysian diaspora to deepen international collaboration during his two-day working visit to London. The visit of Tengku Amir Shah, founder of the Selangor Youth Community (SAY), which began yesterday, also amplified SAY's mission of empowering young people. SAY, in a statement today, said the Raja Muda of Selangor yesterday led the Malaysian delegation to a high-level strategic meeting with King's Trust International (KTI), a global organisation founded by His Majesty King Charles III. "The meeting reaffirmed the partnership between KTI and SAY through the TEAM Programme Malaysia - a nine-week initiative designed to support at-risk youth, including young offenders, care leavers and NEET youth (Not in Education, Employment or Training). "Discussions centred on the programme's evolution since its launch in 2022, including impactful partnerships with drug rehabilitation centres and Malaysia's national employment portal, as well as sustainable funding through SAY's charity initiatives and municipal partnerships," the statement said. After having transformed the lives of over 460 young people in the last five years via the TEAM Programme, it said plans are in place to help 200 people next year, to be followed later by shorter interventions and expanding funding sources, supported by expected funding from HSBC. Tengku Amir Shah then visited Battersea Power Station to explore how heritage restoration can promote inclusive growth and sustainable jobs, emphasising the potential for blending community development with urban transformation, paving the way for future partnerships in Selangor and showcasing SAY's commitment to adapting global best practices locally. The delegation learned about BASE (Battersea Academy for Skills & Employment), a model that combines training, education, and industry collaboration to support underserved communities. He concluded his visit today after a Royal Dialogue Session themed "Leadership, Youth and Making an Impact" at the Malaysian High Commission in London, attended by Malaysian students, professionals and government representatives based in the United Kingdom (UK). The thought-provoking session offered guests the rare opportunity to hear directly from Tengku Amir Shah on his personal journey in leadership, the founding of SAY, and his vision for empowering the next generation of Malaysians, both at home and abroad. "Addressing structural challenges such as skill mismatches, mental health stigma and socioeconomic inequality, Tengku Amir Shah emphasised the value of resilience, purpose-driven action and cross-sector collaboration. Timely boost for Harimau Malaya's Asian Cup campaign
KUALA LUMPUR: The Harimau Malaya squad welcomed a timely boost ahead of their Group F AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifier match against Vietnam at the National Stadium Bukit Jalil on June 10, following the inclusion of four new heritage players for the country. The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) announced today in a statement that the four players are striker Rodrigo Holgado from Colombian club America de Cali, Sabah FC defender Jon Irazabal from Azerbaijan, Velez Sarsfield striker Imanol Machuca from Argentina, and Istanbul Basaksehir striker Joao Figueiredo from Turkey. 'All four players have been undergoing training sessions with the team for several days and have shown very impressive performances. As quality players, they are well prepared to strengthen the national squad to realize the dreams of all Malaysians,' the statement read. Meanwhile, Machuca, 25, stated that the opportunity to wear the national team colours is very special and a great honor for him.
