The mid-range Motorola Edge (2025) has a US release date and price tag attached to its name at last
The moment many of Motorola's cash-strapped US-based fans have been waiting for so long has finally arrived. After releasing no less than five different Edge 60 series smartphones across Europe and Asia over the last few months, the Lenovo-owned brand is (just about) ready to start taking your order for a single new Edge model stateside. Unimaginatively dubbed the Motorola Edge (2025), this unsurprisingly follows in the footsteps of the mid-range US-centric Edge (2024) with a middling set of specs and features of its own largely inspired by the "regular" Edge 60 rather than the higher-end Edge 60 Pro. 6.7-inch Super HD p-OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate technology and up to 4500 nits brightness;

Pantone Deep Forest color. If you want a state-of-the-art alternative to the likes of Samsung's Galaxy S25 Ultra or Google's Pixel 9 Pro XL, you're going to have to look elsewhere. As budget 5G phones go, however, this is a pretty compelling value proposition at a recommended US price of $549.99 (with no strings attached, of course).
The Edge 2025 looks familiar but decidedly snazzy in its lone US color option. | Image Credit -- Motorola Compared to the Motorola Edge (2024), which also started at $550 around this time last year, the Edge (2025) comes with an extra rear-facing snapper, a slightly larger but curiously enough slightly less smooth screen, an evidently improved selfie camera, a bit more battery juice, a more robust construction, and an added physical button. Oh, and of course, a different processor, although Motorola has chosen the MediaTek route instead of the more popular Qualcomm path this time around.
All in all, this certainly qualifies as a satisfactory list of upgrades, which doesn't make it any less painful for Android power users to see Motorola "forget" about an Edge+ flagship yet again. After establishing what devices Motorola's new US mid-range soldier should not be compared with, let's talk about this bad boy's actual rivals for a bit. First up, there's Google's $499 Pixel 9a. That's clearly the better choice from a long-term software support standpoint, but its 6.3-inch display might prove a little... cramped for some of you fine bargain hunters out there. Which brings me to Samsung's 6.7-inch Galaxy S24 FE. Now that's an expansive budget-friendly flagship, but if you're not lucky to find it at a discount, its $650 starting price (with only 128GB storage) could feel a little steep for most prospective Motorola Edge (2025) buyers.
Speaking of discounts, history suggests Motorola might have some launch surprises up its sleeve, so be sure to watch out for those and maybe not rush to pay the full 550 bucks as soon as the Edge (2025) goes on sale in the US on June 5. That release date is good for unlocked units available directly from the handset's manufacturer, as well as major third-party retailers like Amazon and Best Buy. As far as carriers go, T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile , Total Wireless, Visible, Spectrum, and Xfinity Mobile are the only ones officially confirmed to pick up the phone "in the coming months."

Invitation from Google hints at earlier than expected Pixel 10 release
Google used to release the latest Pixel models each October but this became a problem. With Apple launching its newest iPhone handsets each September, those looking for a new phone and blessed with having money in their pockets wouldn't feel like waiting for the new Pixel. They would see that there was a new iPhone available and would buy it. So Google decided to release last year's Pixel 9 series in August leapfrogging the release of the iPhone 16 series. Now, Google appears to be looking to move up the release of the Pixel 10 to late June or early July. Some Pixel Superfans have received an invitation to Pixel Penthouse. Google says that this is 2025's exclusive pre-launch event and that it will be attended by 25 "lucky" Superfans who will be allowed to get handsy with pre-release Pixel devices while also checking out new features. The Superfans will also have the opportunity to sit in on a Q&A session with real-life Googlers. The Superfans who received the invite will need to answer some questions posed to them by Google to see if they are worthy enough to be one of the lucky 25 Superfans attending the Pixel Penthouse.R The questions are: What is your favorite Pixel feature and why? What does being a Pixel Superfan mean to you? When purchasing a Pixel what information or offers do you look for? When you receive your new Pixel, is there anything more that we could provide that would create more of a special moment when transferring to your new Pixel? Respond to the questions and submit the answers to Google. The winners will be announced on June 11th. To add some credence to the idea that Google will unveil and release the Pixel 10 earlier this year, Android 16 is expected to be released in early June which makes it quite likely that we will see the Pixel 10 hit the market in late June, or early July. The Pixel 10 series will be powered by the Tensor G5 which will be the first Tensor application processor (AP) made by TSMC instead of Samsung Foundry. It was also designed from scratch by Google getting rid of the Exynos base that all previous Tensor APs used. This should allow Google to design some exclusive features into the Tensor G5 which will be built by TSMC on its second-generation 3nm node (N3E). Gemini now summarizes Gmail emails automatically and by default
Gemini will start summarizing your emails in Gmail automatically and by default. The summaries will appear at the top of the email content "for messages where a summary is helpful", Google says, "such as longer email threads or messages with several replies". Gemini will synthesize all the key points from the email thread and will automatically update the summary to include information from any subsequent replies. Before, you needed to tap "Summarize this email" at the top of a message in order to get this functionality that is now on by default and automatic. The feature is currently only rolling out for emails in English. For those emails that aren't flagged by Gemini as being ones where a summary would be helpful, it won't be automatically generated but you can still manually prompt it by tapping the Summarize this email chip at the top. The rollout to everyone is expected to take up to 15 days. Note that this will only be available, for now, to Google Workspace subscribers, Google One AI Premium subscribers, and customers with Gemini Education or Gemini Education Premium. Source

This long-overdue change could make your Wear OS smartwatch way more useful
Wear OS 6 is introducing a key upgrade that many users have been waiting for. With the new version, Google is improving how the always-on display (AOD) works by allowing more parts of the interface, like media controls, to stay visible even when the screen dims. In the past, most Wear OS apps would hide their content when the screen entered ambient mode. Unless you were using apps like Google Maps, Keep, or Spotify, you would only see the time and a blurred screen when your wrist was down. This made it harder to quickly glance at useful information without waking the watch. Wear OS 5.1 always on display with media controls. | Image credit — 9to5Google Google is now changing that. With Wear OS 6, the interface will keep showing the last screen you were using in a low-power state. According to the company, the update combines different solutions into a consistent AOD experience across devices. For example, if you are playing music, you will still see the current track and playback buttons, even when the screen is in ambient mode. While in active use, the buttons appear bold and filled in. When the AOD is on, the same buttons become thin outlines, but they still show up clearly and remain usable. You can still see the song name and take action without tapping to wake the feature builds on what Google started with the Pixel Watch in Wear OS 5.1. That version had a hidden developer setting called Force Global AOD Experience, which kept the current screen visible in a dimmed state. Wear OS 6 is turning that idea into a standard are other improvements in Wear OS 6 as well. All tiles will now use the same font, making it easier to move through the tile carousel. Health permissions are also being updated, giving users more control over what data each app can access. Wear OS 6 is based on Android 16 and is expected to arrive later this year. While there is no confirmed rollout date yet, the changes could lead to a more consistent and helpful experience for smartwatch users.
