Businessman loses over RM2.2mil in separate scams just months apart
Pahang police chief Comm Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said that in May, the 45-year-old man was lured by a scheme and contacted an individual via WhatsApp.
He then made 18 transactions totaling RM1.86 million to six bank accounts between May 14 and July 15, 2025.
"The victim received a return of over RM20,000, which convinced him to continue investing. However, last Tuesday, he was asked to make an additional RM88,000 payment for a 'fast withdrawal' process.
"He refused, and checks via the Semak Mule portal revealed the bank accounts involved had criminal records," he said in a statement Thursday (July 24).
Comm Yahaya added that previously, the victim fell for a similar scam, losing RM440,000 through 13 transactions between February and May this year.
"In this case, he did not receive any returns and was instead asked to pay a 20 percent 'tax' to withdraw the funds. He refused after suspecting it was a scam.
"As a result, the businessman lost over RM2.2 million, comprising his savings and money borrowed from friends," he said.
He added that the victim lodged a police report at the Maran police headquarters on Wednesday (July 23), and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. - Bernama

PETALING JAYA: The Securities Commission (SC) has charged a former unit trust consultant (UTC) Nadihah Nawi at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court with offences relating to securities fraud involving purported unit trust investments. In a statement, the SC said Nadihah, 34, faced two charges jointly with another individual who is at large, under section 179(b) of the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007, read together with section 34 of the Penal Code. 'She was charged with defrauding two investors of RM20,000 by representing to them a unit trust investment in Kenanga Investors Bhd (KIB). 'The offences took place between January and June 2022 in Kuala Lumpur. 'The monies deposited by the investors were instead utilised for Nadihah's own unit trust investments in KIB. 'Nadihah was a UTC with Principal Asset Management Bhd at the material time.' The SC said Nadihah claimed trial to both charges before Sessions Court judge Tuan Izralizam Sanusi and was granted bail of RM70,000 with two local sureties. The court also imposed an additional bail condition for the defendant to report to the SC's investigating officer at the SC office in Kuala Lumpur on a monthly basis.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) is set to introduce the Public Cleansing Reform under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), marking a major shift in the national cleaning management landscape. Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said key reforms under the initiative would include dust-free road efforts, the use of electric vehicles (EVs) for night cleaning operations, and the introduction of a Single Window Payment Monitoring System. 'Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will table the 13MP in Parliament tomorrow, and among the core pillars to be announced under the plan is the Public Cleansing Reform. 'I believe that with the advancement of technology, the cleaning sector must also adapt to new innovations that will enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of daily operations,' he said in his speech at the 2025 Cleaners' Day Appreciation Ceremony here today. The ceremony was organised by the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) to recognise the contributions and sacrifices of cleaning personnel in maintaining the cleanliness and harmony of public spaces. Nga also proposed that the event be held annually to honour the dedication and contributions of cleaning workers in the country. He said the work of cleaning personnel was noble and urged society to shift its perception and extend proper respect to the sector. Commenting on enforcement measures, he said the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing (Amendment) Bill 2025, which was passed in the Dewan Rakyat last week, would enable courts to impose fines and community service orders on individuals found guilty of littering in public areas. 'Therefore, I urge all Malaysians to be more responsible about cleanliness, not out of fear of punishment but out of love for the country. Let us cultivate a sense of collective responsibility for a cleaner, healthier and more prosperous future,' he said.

Kita Selangor Rail Project Enters Strategic Financing And Investment Phase
GENERAL SHAH ALAM, July 30 (Bernama) -- The Kita Selangor Rail project has progressed to the stage of finalising financing strategies and identifying suitable investment partners. Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said this phase is meant to ensure the integrated rail network can be implemented sustainably to provide maximum benefits to the people. 'The goal of this rail project is to create a modern, seamless, and user-friendly network that connects key areas across Selangor, including a direct link to the Selangor Aero Park in Sepang, which is being developed as a future hub for aviation and logistics. 'It will also ease traffic congestion and enhance economic growth by facilitating workforce mobility and investment,' he said in a Facebook post. Earlier, Amirudin chaired a meeting with the State Economic Planning Unit and the project's appointed consultant, HSS Integrated Sdn Bhd, to discuss potential collaborations on the project. The Kita Selangor Rail project is a long-term plan by the Selangor government to enhance the state's public transportation network. Amirudin emphasised that the Selangor government is committed to strengthening the public transportation ecosystem by making it more integrated and extending its reach to suburban and rural areas, ensuring fair and inclusive access for all residents.
