Edwards' New Late-Breaking Data on Severe AS Expected to Boost Stock
At the EuroPCR 2025, Edwards Lifesciences EW has announced new economic and clinical evidence on severe aortic stenosis (AS). The results of a new real-world study, comprising more than 24,000 patients, demonstrated that intervening on the disease before symptoms develop reduces the economic and resource burden on the healthcare system and improves patient outcomes.
Presented as a late-breaking clinical trial, the data further contributes to the extensive body of research on this disease. The development is expected to boost both the company's Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement ('TAVR') and Surgical Structural Heart business units.
Yesterday, Edwards shares finished the session at $74.79, down 1.7% from the previous close. On a promising note, the company has been committed to TAVR innovation and high-quality science that is increasing access to treatment options for all AS patients. Robust clinician adoption of the SAPIEN technology backs the segment's growth. In Surgical, Edwards continues to benefit from the strong uptake of the premium RESILIA portfolio, including INSPIRIS, MITRIS and KONECT. The company has been steadily advancing its top-tier surgical innovations around the world, solidifying its position. Hence, we expect that the market sentiment around EW stock will remain positive, driven by the latest news.
Irvine, CA-based Edwards Lifesciences boasts a market capitalization of $44.64 billion. The company's earnings yield of 3.2% favorably compares to the industry's -2.8% yield. It has delivered an earnings beat of 3.5%, on average, in the trailing four quarters.
The study revealed that prompt intervention for severe AS patients before symptoms developed has resulted in $36,000 less cost per patient for the healthcare system in one year. The length of hospital stay during treatment is shorter by 2.2 days, while follow-up heart failure hospitalizations one year after treatment also dropped by 80%. Additionally, compared with asymptomatic severe AS, delaying treatment until the disease progressed led to a more than seven times higher rate of death within one year after aortic valve replacement (AVR).

Together with the previous data from the EARLY TAVR trial, these results have reinforced the value of early referral and evaluation by a Heart Valve Team for all patients with severe AS.
Per a Market Research Future report, the AS treatment market is estimated at $8.6 billion in 2024 and projected to witness a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.4% by 2034.
The market growth is highly driven by the advancements in medical technology, including minimally invasive procedures and breakthrough devices. Furthermore, the growing awareness among healthcare professionals and patients about treatment options is also leading to the market's expansion as more individuals seek early intervention for their conditions.
This month, Edwards received FDA approval for its TAVR therapy, the SAPIEN 3 platform, meant for severe AS patients without symptoms. The approval is based on the groundbreaking data from the EARLY TAVR trial, which demonstrated that asymptomatic severe AS patients randomized to Edwards TAVR experienced superior outcomes compared to guideline-recommended clinical surveillance.
In April, the company's SAPIEN M3 mitral valve replacement system received CE Mark for the transcatheter treatment of patients with symptomatic (moderate-to-severe or severe) mitral regurgitation (MR) who are deemed unsuitable for surgery or transcatheter edge-to-edge (TEER) therapy.

Isiah Thomas uses Michael Jordan to explain Thunder's success vs. Anthony Edwards
The post Isiah Thomas uses Michael Jordan to explain Thunder's success vs. Anthony Edwards appeared first on ClutchPoints. Anthony Edwards leads the Minnesota Timberwolves into Game 5 of the Western Conference finals on Wednesday night. Edwards and Minnesota have their backs against the wall thanks to the defense of the Oklahoma City Thunder. NBA legend Isiah Thomas broke down the defensive strategy that the Thunder have deployed to stop Edwards, comparing it to what the Detroit Pistons used to do against Michael Jordan. Advertisement Thomas was the leader of the 'Bad Boy' Pistons, a team that was built around tough defense. They ran into Jordan and the Bulls multiple times in the Eastern Conference playoffs, dispatching them twice en route to back-to-back titles. They used the 'Jordan Rules' to do so, setting up their defense to stop the Bulls' star in particular. According to Thomas, Oklahoma City's strategy is similar to theirs. Because of that, the Thunder are one win away from an NBA Finals appearance, their first since 2012. 'We wanted to make him(Michael Jordan) a jump shooter,' said Thomas about the Piston's strategy. 'That's what OKC right now is doing to Minnesota. They're making Ant Edwards a jump shooter, they're double-teaming him off screens, high screen-and-roll, side screen-and-roll, and you see in transition, everybody's loading to the ball…' Advertisement Mark Daigneault has run one of the best defenses in recent NBA history this year. His strategy to neutralize Edwards held the Timberwolves' All-Star to just 16 points in Game 4 on 13 shots. His teammates picked up his scoring slack, but it was not enough. Minnesota lost 128-126, and head into Wednesday night's game with their season on the line. Edwards has been compared to Jordan and called the next face of the NBA. However, the 23-year-old is on the brink of his second straight loss in the Western Conference finals. To Thomas, though, the credit goes to the Thunder defense and their willingness to let anyone but Edwards beat them. So far, no one has been able to take the top seed down. The Thunder and the newest MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander look to end Edwards' season at home.

"I think we start speaking on him in another light" - KG on what a ring could mean for Edwards or Haliburton
Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers and Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves are some of the brightest young NBA stars today. However, one of them could be the talk of the town soon, especially if they become a champion at the season's end. Edwards has been making waves in the NBA, but recognition as one of the top stars is still lacking. According to NBA legend Kevin Garnett, that should all change if the Timberwolves guard can lead his team to a title. Advertisement "I think that if Anthony Edwards is somehow, someway figures this out and be able to get Minnesota its first championship, I think it takes him to another…I think we start speaking on him in another light," Garnett said about Edwards on "KG Certified." "The Big Ticket" offered the same take on Haliburton. Already impressed with the level of play of the 12th overall pick of the 2020 Draft, Tyrese could be ranked among the top stars if he managed to lead Indiana to the championship. "Haliburton is not in that huge market. Edwards is not in that huge market either. But he's so vibrant that he's top-tier. If anybody can come out of this on top, and let's just say it's Indiana, Haliburton becomes that deal," KG pointed out. Edwards and Haliburton earned rare recognition in 2024 Ironically, there is one thing that Anthony and Tyrese share that most may have overlooked. Both were part of the 2024 Team USA that won the gold in the Paris Olympics, being the only players retained from the disappointing squad that finished fourth in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. Advertisement Considering the U.S. team had LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, most overlooked these two young stars. However, it was a testament that their skills were recognized, and now they are showing why. Haliburton has come into his own with the Pacers. He has been the spark for Rick Carlisle thus far, and if he and the Pacers stay the course, they could be representing the Eastern Conference in the Finals. So far, the Pacers hold a 2-1 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals over the New York Knicks. Those two wins were collected at Madison Square Garden, and two more victories would push them to the grand stage. They dropped their first two games to the surging Oklahoma City Thunder but managed to take Game 3 to avoid a huge hole. Advertisement After a dismal Game 1, Ant made up for his poor performance with a couple of 30+ performances. However, with his teammates failing to step up or provide support, the top pick of the 2020 Draft will have to do more to push the T-Wolves to the Finals. Although nothing is set, seeing a final featuring the Pacers and the Timberwolves would be something special and unexpected. It would be a battle featuring some of the top American young stars of today, something that would catapult their respective basketball careers to the next level.
