ISRO Recruitment 2025: Selection Process
The recruitment process involves:

3. Final Selection - Based on a 50:50 weightage of written test and interview scores.

Selected candidates will be appointed as Scientist/Engineer 'SC' under Level 10 of the Pay Matrix, with a starting basic pay of Rs 56,100/- per month, along with admissible allowances.

ISRO's spaceport at Kulasekarapattinam to be commissioned in 2026-2027, says Dr Jitendra Singh
The commissioning of India's second spaceport is targeted in the financial year 2026 – 2027, Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in the Department of Space informed Lok Sabha Wednesday. The development of ISRO's second spaceport is currently underway in Kulasekarapattinam, Tamil Nadu. He was replying to the question on the status of the proposed spaceport posed by Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, Member of Parliament, DMK. At present, all space launches undertaken by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) are realised from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, or SHAR, located at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. In February 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone of the spaceport which enjoys a geographical advantage along the coastal Tamil Nadu's Thoothukudi district. This spaceport, with a financial outlay of Rs. 985.96 crore, will be extensively and exclusively used for commercial, on-demand and small satellite launches in future. ' Post commissioning, the launches of the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) and equivalent vehicles from the non-government entities are planned to be carried out from Kulasekarapattinam,' the DoS minister stated. The SSLV missions are best suited for launching small-sized satellites, low on cost and the intended satellite insertion is done into the Low Earth Orbit. As they typically weigh anywhere between 10 to 500kg, the requirement of a short trajectory and the ability to accomplish the mission in limited fuel is essential. These requirements will be met once the new launch facility at Kulasekarapattinam will be operational as it will offer a direct south-bound and smaller launch trajectory. From the time since the commencement of the ground works at the site till July this year , a sum of Rs. 389.58 crore has been spent on the project development. The upcoming spaceport, Dr Singh said, will enhance the payload capability of satellite launch vehicles in the class of ISRO's Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV), while launching satellites to polar orbits.

Government Cuts Funding To AICTE By 61% In Two Years, Student Scholarships Also Hit: Education Minister In Rajya Sabha
Government funding to the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has witnessed a steep decline over the past two years, even as the Centre announces several new big-ticket schemes in higher education. Minister of State for Education Dr. Sukanta Majumdar informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that the grant-in-aid to AICTE has dropped from Rs 420 crore in 2022-23 to just Rs 137.5 crore in 2024-25-a sharp cut of nearly 61 per cent in two years. Student scholarships, a core part of AICTE's quality improvement efforts, have also been affected. Expenditure on scholarships fell from Rs 387.13 crore in 2021-22 to Rs 284.32 crore in 2023-24, an almost 18 per cent dip in a year. While there has been a minor recovery to Rs 309.47 crore in 2024-25, allocation remains below earlier levels. The data, provided in response to a parliamentary question by MP Dr. M. Thambidurai, raises concerns over shrinking direct support for students and technical institutions, even as the government pushes ahead with large-scale educational reforms in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. These include the Rs 50,000 crore Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) to boost research and innovation, and the One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) scheme with an estimated budget of Rs 6,000 crore to provide access to journals for over 6,300 institutions between 2025 and 2027. The minister further mentions the 'World Class Institutions scheme' launched in 2017, which has so far declared 12 universities as Institutes of Eminence (IoEs). These include IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, IISc Bengaluru, Banaras Hindu University, University of Delhi and University of Hyderabad in the public category, along with private universities such as BITS Pilani, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, O.P. Jindal Global University and Shiv Nadar University. Public institutions have been allocated nearly Rs 6,200 crore under this scheme. A new MERITE scheme with a financial outlay of Rs 4,200 crore will be implemented in 275 technical institutions, covering 175 engineering colleges and 100 polytechnics, between 2025-26 and 2029-30 to improve governance, quality, and equity in technical education. The government has also approved Centres of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence in health, sustainable cities, and agriculture with an allocation of Rs 990 crore till 2027-28. Budget 2025-26 further announced a Rs 500 crore AI centre for education. Since 2014, the government has established 16 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), 8 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), 8 Central Universities, 7 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), 2 Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) and 1 National Institute of Technology (NIT). While the expansion of institutions and launch of new schemes reflect a push for global competitiveness, the cuts in AICTE funding and scholarships risk undermining student-level support and the functioning of technical colleges on the ground.

Life Sciences sector in Telangana sees Rs 54,000 cr investments, 2 lakh jobs
Hyderabad, Aug 20 (PTI) Telangana IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu on Wednesday said the Life Sciences sector in the state has witnessed remarkable growth under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, attracting investments worth Rs 54,000 crore since December 2023. The Minister, who chaired the sixth Board Meeting of the Telangana Life Sciences Foundation, in his capacity as Chairman, highlighted that over 2 lakh new jobs have been created in pharmaceutical manufacturing, medical technology, and vaccine production, an official release said. 'Hyderabad now ranks among the world's top seven life sciences clusters, and it is the only Indian city to achieve this distinction," he said. Telangana will soon unveil its Next-Gen Life Sciences Policy, he said, describing it as 'a cutting-edge" policy framework designed to attract large-scale investments. The state has set an ambitious target to scale its Life Sciences economy to USD 250 billion by 2030, aiming to make Telangana the 'Life Sciences Capital of Asia". The Minister further proposed preparing a feasibility report for establishing the Telangana School of Life Sciences. Board members, including Dr Reddy's Laboratories Chairman Satish Reddy, Laurus Labs ED & CEO Satyanarayana Chava, Special Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar were among those who attended the meeting, the release added.
