Ohio 2026 tight end Preston Fryzel set to make official visit to Notre Dame
Notre Dame is set to host multiple tight ends on official visits in the coming weeks as it looks to bolster its 2026 recruiting class.
Central Catholic (Toledo, OH) product Preston Fryzel will be visiting campus this Friday through Sunday. The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder will be in South Bend for the second time since receiving a scholarship offer from the Fighting Irish May 21. Fryzel previously visited Notre Dame unofficially last Tuesday.
In addition to ND, Fryzel also visited Miami unofficially earlier this month and officially visited Duke last weekend. He is also set to officially visit Iowa June 20 before making a decision on a school.
Fryzel was a key piece in Central Catholic's march to the state title game last season. He earned all-state honorable mention from the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association after hauling in 43 catches for 807 yards and 10 touchdowns in 16 games. On3's Mike Singer has confidence that Notre Dame will land him, as he's put in a prediction for the Irish today (see below).
Tight end has been a focus on the recruiting trail for the Irish. Fryzel is one of four tight ends still on ND's board. Waukee (Waukee, IA) four-star product Evan Jacobson recently rescheduled his official visit from June 20 to June 13, while Great Bend (Great Bend, KS) four-star Ian Premer and Lexington (Mansfield, OH) four-star Brayden Fogle are set for a midweek visits next week.
Notre Dame does not currently have a tight end committed in its 2026 recruiting class.

ESPN's Football Power Index gives Spartans slim chances of reaching bowl

The computers and numbers behind ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) are not high on the Spartans reaching a bowl game this season. While the Spartans' win total over/under is set at 5.5 (with some sports book juicing it to the over), the FPI rating system is giving Michigan State a less than 50-50 chance of reaching a bowl game this fall. According to a post from The Big Ten Huddle, the Spartans are given only a 31% chance to reach six wins to become bowl eligible. Among Big Ten teams, only Northwestern and Purdue have lower odds from FPI to reach a bowl game this season. Northwestern comes in at 27.8%, while Purdue is listed at a near impossible 1.8%. Michigan State is the only team from the Big Ten to not reach the postseason at least once in the last three years. The Spartans finished last season with a 5-7 record in year one under head coach Jonathan Smith, and are expecting a better record this upcoming season. The Spartans officially kick off the 2025 season on August 29 against Western Michigan. Kickoff from Spartan Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, with the game set to be televised on FS1. Former Iowa baseball starter named Midwest League Pitcher of the Week

It was a week to remember for former Iowa baseball star pitcher Ty Langenberg. Langenberg was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 11th round of the 2023 MLB Draft. He's slowly been working his way up through their minor league system, now playing for the Cedar Rapids Kernels, the Twins' High-A affiliate. It's a great location for Langenberg, who's not far from Iowa City and gets to pitch in front of plenty of Hawkeye fans. And his latest performance on the mound was nothing short of incredible. Langenberg went seven innings, allowed no earned runs, and struck out seven batters last Wednesday against the Quad City River Bandits. That pitching performance was enough to earn him Midwest League Pitcher of the Week honors. Overall, in this season with the Kernels, Langenberg has started 18 games, posting a 4-5 record with a 4.43 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP. He has 85 strikeouts to just 42 walks, a solid 2:1 strikeout to walk ratio. And with the Twins organization seemingly looking to go in a younger direction with their roster, Langenberg could see a promotion to Double-A before too much longer. This was a great performance from Langenberg and hopefully one he can build on going forward. Iowa fans will be rooting for the former Hawkeye to rocket through the system and hopefully pitch with the big league club at some point soon. Trio of Florida Gators named to 2025 Comeback Player of the Year Award watch list

The 2025 Comeback Player of the Year Award preseason watch list was released ahead of the start of the upcoming college football campaign and included a trio of Florida Gators. Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Eugene Wilson III, redshirt junior defensive lineman Jamari Lyons and redshirt sophomore defensive back Aaron Gates were among those named. All three have dealt with significant injury adversity and are looking to prove a point on the gridiron this fall. Wilson suffered a season-ending hip injury in his second year following a phenomenal freshman campaign that showcased his electric qualities on offense. Last year, he played in the team's first four games hauling in 19 receptions for 266 yards and a touchdown — that score coming on an 85-yard jet toss from DJ Lagway against Samford — before being sidelined. Lyons suffered a season-ending injury prior to the opening kickoff of 2024 after recording 20 tackles (10 solo) and 2.5 tackles for loss in 2023, which had set him up for high expectations. His broken ankle required two surgeries and multiple rehab stints, but he appears prepared for his return in 2025. Gates suffered a torn ACL in the Ole Miss late last November, taking him out of action for the team's final two games — against the Florida State Seminoles to close out the regular season and Tulane Green Wave at the Gasparilla Bowl. Still, he was an important contributor at the STAR position, finishing fifth on the team in tackles-for-loss with a 4.0 and logged a total of 27 tackles (14 solo), along with an interception, three pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and a quarterback hurry. About the Comeback Player of the Year Award Since 2018, the Comeback Player of the Year Award watch list has been comprised of 75 student-athletes who overcame an injury, illness or other circumstance in the previous year. Each player returned to full health for the 2025 season and showcased their skills, helping their teams compete to their highest potential. The Comeback Player of the Year Award honors three of the athletes who were named to the watch list as winners of the award. The three winners are chosen by a panel of Associated Press college football writers and sports information directors.
