Report San Siro fails UEFA inspection to be EURO 2023 host venue
It is reported that the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza at San Siro failed the UEFA tests to be a host venue for the upcoming EURO 2032 tournament. According to multiple sources, the initial inspection of the structure found inadequacies and it would not currently be given the all-clear to stage matches for that competition. It is a huge problem for Italy, who are co-hosting the tournament with Turkey, as they are already struggling to find five stadiums that fit the bill. San Siro was one of few firm choices for EURO 2032 The reports state that Inter, Milan, the FIGC, UEFA and Mayor of Milan Beppe Sala were all involved in the encounter where the bad news was passed on. The city of Milan would otherwise be perfect for hosting, as it is one of the main transport hubs in the country. Italy need to give UEFA a list of five venues by October 2026, with work starting at the latest in March 2027. With that in mind, this could represent a boost for Inter and Milan, who continue to maintain a new stadium has to be built in what is effectively the car park of the current San Siro arena, as soon as possible. The problem is that everything risks grinding to a halt after the start of an investigation into Mayor Sala, prompting some to call for all his projects to be stopped until there is further clarity.
