Hundreds of people took to Swansea Bay during the hottest weekend of the year for a gruelling Ironman 70.3 on Sunday. As temperatures reached 30C 2,500 athletes took part in the event on Sunday which involves a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike ride and a 13.1 mile run.
Harry Palmer retained his Ironman 70.3 title in the men's race while Kat Matthews claimed her second Ironman Pro Series win of the season in the women's section.
Thousands of spectators lined the route along the bay to cheer on the athletes in the stunning location from the marina to the Gower.
Palmer, who finished the race with a time of 3:51:18, said at the finish line: "It's pretty surreal. I don't feel like it's sunk in yet. I'm just in a lot of pain right now.
"That was amazing. I feel like the spectators were even better than last year which I didn't think was possible. It was pretty epic.
"It was only until the last 100 metres where I thought: 'Oh wow, I'm actually winning here.' I didn't want to allow myself to enjoy it too much as I knew the guys behind me were chasing hard and they're amazing athletes."
Matthews, who finished in 4:20:37, said the race was challenging in the heat as she thanked spectators. "Thank you so much to every single person who cheered for me and for everyone else," she said.
"It was fantastic. It was honestly blissful until about 4k into the run and then I thought: 'Goodness, the sun's pretty hot down here on the beach."
Outside the top spots there were plenty of notable athletes in the race including former pro Welsh rugby international Shane Williams who ticked off another Ironman event as he completed the race in 5:26:00.
Also running was Owen 'Pedz' Peddle who has gained a tremendous following on social media with his journey from not being able to swim the length of a swimming pool to completing the Ironman event today.
Roared on by his many fans, the DJ from Newport, who said he did the event to do something he couldn't have previously done and to "lose a bit of weight", finished the course in 8:32:00.
He said: "The last nine months of my life have been mental, actually mental. Dragging myself from where I started to where I am now has been a hell of a journey and I couldn't be prouder of where I am right now." You can read his story here.

Danilo bags unique Rangers hat-trick as Kieran Dowell dazzles to prove Martin claim is bang on the money

The pair have struggled to impress during their time at Ibrox but have been shining lights in pre season A new manager always brings fresh hope for players who struggled to impress under the previous regime. ‌ And that is the case at Rangers this summer with not only a new boss in Russell Martin but a new era at the club under the 49ers ownership. ‌ It's a clean slate under Martin and while it can always be dangerous to read too much into pre-season, the early signs have been good for at least a couple of players. ‌ Much of the Ibrox side's work this summer has been done away from the eyes of the public with only one friendly so far against Club Brugge offering a glimpse of life under Martin. It was a game of two halves as the Light Blues recovered from going a couple of goals down against the Belgians to salvage a draw thanks to goals from Mohamed Diomande and Finlday Curtis. Apart from that, it's been closed door games - a 1-0 defeat to Welsh minnows The New Saints and a draw against Barnsley at their St George's Park training camp. Danilo was the man on target against the Tykes and the Brazilian shone on the latest runout as Martin built up to that huge Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos. The 26-year-old former Feyenoord man's time at Ibrox has ben plagued by injuries but impressed yet again as Neil Lennon took his Dunfermline side to the Rangers Training Centre for a bounce game. ‌ Danilo was on the scoresheet again and assisted three times for Nico Raskin, Kieran Dowell and new boy Thelo Aasgaard. With the futures of both Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane both in doubt and sitting out pre-season so far, a fit-again and firing Danilo could be the man who Martin pins his hopes on for Champions League progress. Danilo's talent hasn't been doubted by Rangers fans, it's his injury record which has left them with questions. ‌ However, the same probably can't be said of Dowell and it would be a major turnaround if he was to be handed a key role under Martin. The midfielder was previously out of favour and shipped out on loan to Birmingham last season, with a permanent move expected this summer. Martin has named the former Everton and Norwich City man in his 'senior' group alongside captain James Tavernier, John Souttar and Jack Butland. Dowell was a standout at St Andrews last season and Michael Beale spoke highly of the player when he landed him on a free two summers ago. He said: "I watched him come through at Everton, playing for all the England age groups. Played 15 or 16 times for England under-21s. "He's played in the Premier League for Norwich, who have had a few changes of coach in his time there. He comes in as a player that knows three or four in our dressing room that he's played with. He's a player I like a lot.' But he made just 17 appearances in his first season, with Beale axed early on and then he moved to the Midlands last January. Still only 27, could Dowell now prove his worth at Rangers?

Record Number of Golfers Raise £14,000 for Popham Kidney Support

PKS – Golf Day 2025 – Winning Team, Dunvant RFC, with PKS Trustee, Kim Loosmore More than 200 golfers and 55 teams from across Wales, England and Scotland gathered at Clyne Golf Club for a charity tournament supporting children and families affected by kidney disease. The event was hosted by Swansea-based charity Popham Kidney Support, which provides practical, emotional and financial assistance to people across Wales living with kidney disease. This year's Golf Day raised in excess of £14,000 – the highest total to date – thanks to team entries, sponsorship, and funds raised during the evening's raffle and auction. Main event sponsor, The Construction Club, represented by Jamie Lannen and Geraint Hopkins, contributed £3,000 towards the total. Various businesses from far and wide came together to support the event, including Dawsons, Days Rental, Old Walls Collection, Frames & Sculpts, Chepstow Races, Mahle and GS Yuasa. Golf balls were donated to every team through a partnership between Locker Room and GS Yuasa, coordinated by former Welsh rugby international Tom Shanklin. The winning team on the day was Dunvant RFC with 97 points. Second place went to Shirgar Butter with 93, followed by St Mary's Square in third on 92 points, and Team Yuasa close behind in fourth with 90. Jamie Lannen and The Construction Club Cheque Presentation Golf Day 2025 Individual competition highlights included Ray Tilley of Tilleys Fine Jewellery & Watches winning Longest Drive, sponsored by David North Personal Training, while Sam Webborn won Nearest to the Pin with a hole-in-one. Joanne Popham, CEO of Popham Kidney Support, said: 'We're extremely grateful to all who contributed to the success of this year's event — from the sponsors and teams to those who took part in the raffle and auction. I'd also like to thank Kim Loosmore for his continued hard work and dedication in organising the day. The funds raised will directly support our work with children and families across Wales who are living with kidney disease.' Kim Loosmore, event organiser, added: 'It was fantastic to welcome a record number of teams this year. The continued support from players, sponsors and Clyne Golf Club ensures the event goes from strength to strength. As a committee member of the charity, I see first-hand the difference this support makes to the lives of people living with kidney disease and it's incredibly rewarding to know that this event helps us reach even more people each year.'
