Brad Pitt fans have just days to watch 'best sports movie ever'

Daily Recorda day ago

With a near-perfect 94 per cent score on Rotten Tomatoes, this Brad Pitt starrer has often been hailed as one of the best sports movies of all time. Leaving Netflix on June 21, fans have just days to watch the film.
With a smashing 94 per cent score on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, Brad Pitt's Moneyball is often regarded as one of the best sports movies of all time.
Leaving Netflix on June 21, Moneyball is a 2011 biographical sports drama adapted for screen by Aaron Sorkin and Steven Zaillian.

It's based on Michael Lewis's 2003 book Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game. Directed by Bennett Miller, Moneyball sees Pitt joined by a stellar cast comprising Robin Wright, Jonah Hill, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Chris Pratt.

Based on the life of Oakland Athletics' general manager Billy Beane (portrayed by Brad Pitt) and his use of unconventional data analytics to build a top-tier baseball team on a much more limited budget than others, this American sports drama delves into how Billy Beane challenged the traditional scouting methods and in turn, changed the sport forever.
Moneyball received six Academy Awards nominations including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay, along with bagging a Best Actor nomination for Brad Pitt and a Best Supporting Actor nod for Jonah Hill.
The film was also a commercial success, grossing $110.2 million worldwide against a production budget of $50 million.
Speaking to NPR about portraying Billy Beane on screen, Brad Pitt said: 'I like him for his idiosyncrasies — that he can't watch the games without getting too emotional, that he often has food down his shirt, that he tends to break a few chairs now and then. These things make him human.'
Moneyball received high praise from critics, with one reviewer saying: 'Moneyball is a winner, one of the freshest and smartest sports movies in years.'

While one critic felt Bennett Miller's offering was 'an accomplished, bracingly intelligent film that scores points on all fronts,' another called it 'an engaging, almost exotic film'.
Praise for Brad Pitt in Moneyball ran abound, as one reviewer commented: 'Starring Brad Pitt in top movie star form, it's a film that's impressive and surprising,' while another said: 'It is Pitt who is in every way, the heart of the movie, his natural confidence and grace a lovely balance to the formulas with Greek letters and the endless statistics.'

Another critic said of the film: 'It's to the director's credit, and Pitt's, that Moneyball is anything but bloodless — in its own quiet, unspectacular way, this movie courses with life,' while another added: 'This is a subtle, elegant and altogether triumphant film about a subject I thought I was tired of, told with an artistry and freshness that is positively thrilling.'
Audiences were left as taken with the Brad Pitt spectacle, with one viewer saying: 'All Time Classic. Acting is excellent. Everyone gives really good performances but Brad Pitt is excellent and just sends it over the top with an interesting character to boot. The music also is excellent as well in a really unique way.'
Another viewer called it a 'brilliant, inspirational film. A testament to the romanticism and amazingness of baseball. A great depiction of the Oakland Athletics miracle season. Fantastic acting. The best sports movie I have ever seen.'
While one viewer felt they couldn't understand 'how anyone doesn't like this', writing: 'I've watched it 100+ times, it's my top 3 movies of all time. So many amazing scenes and subtle acting mastery. I love this movie.'
And one fan of the film said: 'It doesn't matter if you don't care much for baseball, you'll love it. Bennett writes and directs this flawlessly and puts together a great cast. Which of course ends up in a perfect film. One of, if not Brad's best performance yet.'

Will there be a series four of Ginny and Georgia after huge plot twist finale

Series three of Ginny and Georgia left on a huge cliff-hanger- so will there be a series four? The third series of hit Netflix show Ginny and Georgia dropped onto the streaming platform on Thursday, June 5, and super fans have already finished binging all 10 episodes. But, after a cliff-hanger ending (spoilers ahead) viewers are on the edge of their seats, wondering if a fourth series has been confirmed. Series three of Sarah Lampert's comedy-drama, which focuses on teen Ginny and her 30-year-old mum Georgia, picked up after the jaw-dropping events of the series two finale, in which Georgia was arrested for the murder of Tom Fuller at her wedding to Wellsbury mayor Paul Randolph. Georgia's son Austin, who was playing hide-and-seek and hiding in the wardrobe of Tom's room, had witnessed the act as Georgia smothered Tom with a pillow. The third season primarily focuses on the murder trial, with Georgia facing a possible prison sentence. In a shocking turn of events, Austin frames his father, Gil, for the murder he knows was committed by his mum. But aside from this twisted crime and resulting trial, a huge plot twist that came at the end of the series was that both Ginny and Georgia discover that they are pregnant, after Georgia had faked a pregnancy earlier in series three. And what's more, we don't know the identity of the father of Georgia's baby. So, will fans be blessed with another series of this twist-after-twist comedy-drama? Luckily, the show was renewed for a fourth series at the same time its third series was confirmed, back in 2023. But viewers will have to wait until then to find out the aftermath of Ginny and Georgia's fast-paced series three finale. And its fourth series is planned to be its last ever. Showrunner Debra J. Fisher revealed to the Hollywood Reporter that the Netflix show was always planned to run for four series, and that they had already mapped out plans for Ginny and Georgia's final episode. The showrunner told the publication: "When Sarah [Lampert] and I pitched the show to Netflix, we did pitch four seasons, so we know what we want the end game to be. 'We know what we want the last episode to be.' Although the fourth series of the beloved show is yet to receive a confirmed release date, fans can expect to wait around two years, as has been the norm for the previous series. Ginny and Georgia series one came out in 2021, series two in 2023, and series three in 2025. And fans are devastated to have to wait, expressing their eagerness for series four on social media. One fan said on X: "Just finished season 3 of Ginny and Georgia. An amazing season, I need season 4 on my desk tomorrow!" Another user wrote: "Just got done with season 3 and Georgia is still mother, Joe is still hot af, Paul DILF card got revoked, not any cringe worthy moments from Ginny, and Ellen still being Georgia best friend throughout every thing with that said give me season 4". Coco Gauff shows true colours after winning massive tennis prize money

Coco Gauff shows true colours after winning massive tennis prize money Coco Gauff faces Aryna Sabalenka in the French Open final on Saturday as she bids to win a second major singles title - but the American is not motivated by money Coco Gauff is a humble character Coco Gauff has her sights set on clinching the second major singles title of her career at the French Open final. The American tennis prodigy secured her place in the final by triumphing over compatriot Madison Keys in the quarter-finals and then defeating French sensation Lois Boisson. She's no stranger to success at Roland-Garros, having won the doubles title last year. ‌ After falling short in the 2022 singles final, she'll be hoping to go one better against Aryna Sabalenka this time around. ‌ At just 21 years old, Gauff has already spent a significant portion of her life in the limelight, first making global headlines when she beat Venus Williams at Wimbledon aged only 15. She claimed her maiden major at the U.S. Open in 2023 and is currently ranked second in the world. A victory at the French Open would add a hefty $2.9 million (€2.55M) to her already substantial net worth, reports the Mirror US. Net worth Throughout her career, Gauff has amassed an impressive $24.3M in prize money, ranking her 18th on the all-time list of female tennis players. When combined with her numerous endorsement deals, Celebrity Net Worth estimates her total wealth at $35M. Article continues below In 2024, Forbes named Gauff as the highest-earning female athlete. Her portfolio of endorsements includes lucrative contracts with New Balance and Italian food giant Barilla. She has raked in $2.7M in prize money so far this year, a sum that could potentially more than double should she emerge victorious at Roland-Garros. Yet, Gauff's earnings are still a far cry from Serena Williams' staggering career total of $94.8M. Gauff reveals her true colours Despite accumulating wealth that most can only dream of, tennis sensation Gauff demonstrated her down-to-earth nature following her U.S. Open triumph. Contrary to expectations of lavish spending after securing her first major and a $3M prize, Gauff confessed to not being driven by financial gain. ‌ "I don't like to spend money," Gauff disclosed on the podcast in 2023. "When I had my first Grand Slam check, I wanted a car but my dad had already bought it and, I don't know what to buy now." Her father Corey surprised her with a black Audi e-tron, yet the young star showed no urgency to splash out. "There's nothing crazy materialistic that I really want," Gauff mentioned during an Instagram live session. "I'm very satisfied with all that I have. I don't want anything crazy." ‌ Post-U.S. Open, when queried about her immediate desires, Gauff humorously responded: "A burger. That's all I want." She also expressed a longing for a holiday, having been accustomed to travelling solely for tournaments. Despite her professional achievements, Gauff continued to reside with her parents in Delray Beach, Florida. In November 2024, she revealed the purchase of her own home in the vicinity, after previously gifting her parents a $1M mansion. ‌ Coco Gauff won the U.S. Open in 2023 (Image: Tim Clayton/Corbis via Getty Images ) Humble attitude During a press conference, Gauff appeared at ease when contemplating her upcoming clash with the world's top-ranked player Sabalenka in the French Open final. Reflecting on her previous defeat at this level three years earlier, she acknowledged feeling much more relaxed about her third appearance in a major singles final. "My first final here, I was super nervous and I kind of wrote myself off before the match even happened," Gauff remarked. "Obviously, here, I have a lot more confidence just from playing the final before and doing well in one. Article continues below "Going into Saturday, I'll give it my best shot and be as calm and relaxed as possible. Whatever happens, happens knowing I put my best foot forward." When questioned about her newfound sense of tranquillity, Gauff provided some insight: "Realizing how minuscule it is. Everybody is dealing with way bigger things in life than losing a final. And also thinking and realizing that however many players would have wanted to be in this position. "I'm sure there's hundreds of players that would kill to win or lose the final, so just knowing that makes me realize how lucky and privileged I am to be in this position. At first, I thought it would be the end of the world if I lost and the sun still rose the next day. So knowing, regardless of the result, that the sun will still rise."

Netflix's Dept Q star had an ordinary job before landing life-changing role

Netflix star Alexej Manvelov who plays Akram in the streaming platforms latest thrilled Dept Q had a very normal job before coming into the spotlight. Netflix's Dept Q has quickly become a fan favourite, captivating viewers with its thrilling storyline and standout performances. While lead star Matthew Goode has earned widespread praise for his portrayal of troubled detective Carl Mørck, viewers have also been quick to praise his co-star, Alexej Manvelov, who plays Akram, hailing him as a scene stealer. The 43-year-old Swedish actor plays Akram, Detective Mørck's mysterious 'assistant'. A former member of the Syrian police, Akram is relentless in his pursuit of justice to uncover the truth. ‌ Alexej's portrayal of Akram has taken viewers by storm and they can't seem to get enough of him. ‌ Despite his growing fame and impressive appearances in Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan and the hit HBO show Chernobyl, his path to stardom was far from traditional. Before becoming a professional actor the star spent nearly a decade working in the construction industry - although he always wanted to be an actor. According to the Swedish publication Aftonbladet, Alexej worked as a sheet metal technician for eight years after relocating to Stockholm to chase his acting dreams. While holding down the physically demanding job, he got involved with several independent theatre groups and attended auditions whenever possible. His determination paid off, as he eventually went on to star in various Swedish productions including the thriller Before We Die and Stockholm Requiem. ‌ His breakthrough came with his portrayal of Garo in Chernobyl, which opened doors to international projects. In 2023 he went on to star as Alexei Petrov in Jack Ryan, before landing the role in Dept Q. Speaking to Netflix's Tudum, Matthew Goode praised the cast that writer and director Scott Frank assembled. He said: "Scott Frank assembled one of the finest casts I've ever gotten to work with. It's just an incredible playpen for an actor." ‌ "Leah Byrne is a stone-cold star. I felt like I've known Jamie [Sives] for a long time, we just get on so well… Alexej [Manvelov] is joy, pure joy, capital J," he continued. Dept Q is a gripping crime series revolving around the brilliant, but flawed, detective Carl Mørck, who is given a cold case assignment after being badly injured following a mysterious attack that left his partner paralysed and a young police officer dead. The show is based on the hit novels by Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen and has nine episodes, which dive into the cold case and explores the truth behind Mørck's attack. Speaking about the plot, Matthew said: "When we join the story, a 16-year-old case up in Aberdeen has been solved. The optics of that look really good, because right now they're lacking finance and crime figures are going up. "So Kate Dickie's character - the boss of the police force - her higher-ups say, 'Let's form a cold case unit.' She puts Carl in charge because she can keep an eye on him in the basement." All episodes of Dept Q are available to watch on Netflix now.
