Robbers loot over Rs 14 crore gold, Rs 5 lakh cash from bank in MP's Jabalpur
The branch in Khitola area was without a security guard when robbers struck on Monday morning just after the bank opened for business for the day, they said.
The robbers looted 14.875 kg of gold kept in the locker and Rs 5 lakh cash from the bank's branch in Sehore tehsil, located about 50 km from the district headquarters, Jabalpur rural area additional superintendent of police Suryakant Sharma told reporters.
The heist took just 18 minutes, Jabalpur Range Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Atul Singh said, adding the robbers came on two motorcycles and entered the branch of ESAF Small Finance Bank wearing helmets.
"The bank branch did not have a security guard. There were six staffers at the time of the incident. The robbers entered the branch at 8.50 am and came out at 9.08 am. They fled on motorcycles. We have scanned CCTV cameras. They did not have weapons in their hands. One of the robbers had a firearm tucked under his belt," Singh said.
The bank staffers notified police 45 minutes after the incident following discussions with superior officials, the DIG said.
"Had they informed us in time, the robbers would have been caught. Efforts were on to nab the accused," Singh added.
The bank started its day at 8 am instead of its usual opening time of 10.30 am due to the ongoing festive season, according to sources.

Two hardcore Maoist commanders worth Rs 35 lakh killed in encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh
RAIPUR: Two hardcore Maoists carrying bounty of Rs 35 lakh, were killed in an encounter with security forces in forests of Mohla–Manpur–Ambagarh Chowki district of Chhattisgarh, bordering Bastar's Kanker district. Those killed were top commanders including Vijay Reddy, Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee member (DKSZCM) carrying cash reward of Rs 25 lakh and Lokesh Salame, a divisional committee member (DVCM) who carried cash bounty of Rs 10 lakh in Chhattisgarh. Two Mumbai bizmen arrested for Rs 50cr GST evasion
Mumbai: The State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) department arrested two company directors in separate cases of alleged fraudulent Input Tax Credit (ITC) claims, involving a combined GST evasion of over Rs 50 crore. In the first case, Yashwant Kumar Tailor, director of Magic Gold Bullion Pvt Ltd, was arrested for allegedly availing Rs 30.51 crore in ITC on fake invoices from non-existent firms between June 2020 and June 2025, without the actual receipt of goods or services. Investigators said the company had no infrastructure or manpower to justify its declared turnover, and Tailor failed to appear before the authorities or produce supporting documents. In the second case, Om Jay Ramrakhiani, director of RFIC Trading Pvt Ltd, was held in connection with alleged GST evasion of over Rs 20.05 crore. Officials said the firm received Rs 3.73 crore in ineligible ITC from Bharat Metal Corporation, which in turn sourced from multiple bogus entities with cancelled GST registrations. A search found RFIC Trading's registered address to be a residential property with no business records. Authorities allege the transactions involved fake invoices and fraudulent ITC adjustments with no actual cash payments.
