Thanking the students after receiving the cheque on Wednesday, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said such contributions go a long way in providing relief to those in need, an official statement said.
He said it is a matter of happiness to see tiny tots coming forward to help the needy and mitigate their sufferings.

Five killed as chopper carrying relief for rain-hit areas crashes in NW Pakistan
Peshawar, Aug 15 (PTI) A helicopter carrying relief goods for rain-hit areas crashed due to bad weather two pilots and three others in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan on Friday. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government's MI-17 helicopter had taken off from Peshawar for Bajaur when contact was lost over Mohmand tribal district, according to initial reports. Chief Secretary of the province, Shahab Ali Shah, confirmed that poor weather conditions led to the crash. Over 100 people have died, scores of others injured and several missing as torrential rains lashed the province triggering flash floods and landslides, mainly in Bajaur and Buner districts. The helicopter went down in Changi Banda, where three people involved in rescue operations and two pilots were confirmed dead. Authorities also stated that it remains to be determined whether the crash was caused solely by weather or other factors. Rescue teams have been dispatched to the crash site, and the deceased will be laid to rest with full state honours. Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, announcing a day of mourning across the province on Saturday. 'We share the grief of the bereaved families," Gandapur said. 'The helicopter crew sacrificed their lives to save others — they are our true heroes, and their sacrifice will be remembered in golden words in history." The provincial government's second helicopter is currently engaged in rescue operations in Buner district, the chief minister said. Delhi CM Gupta meets children in the rain after maiden I-Day address
The rain at the Chhatrasal Stadium was relentless all morning on Friday, where Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta gave her maiden Independence Day speech; however, she took it in her stride, and post her address, met schoolchildren in the downpour, even waving away an umbrella offered by her security staff. Drenched but smiling, Gupta clicked photographs with the children and shook hands with parade participants and security personnel. "Everything is moving in the right direction with transparency and dedication. I have much more to share with you, but I can see the rain is getting heavier, and my young children are still seated bravely in it," she said. The chief minister also asked the crowd to applaud themselves and the parade participants for not taking cover during the event despite the heavy rain. The ceremony unfolded under heavy showers that tested the endurance of participants and spectators. A few members of the marching contingents lost consciousness after the parade and had to be helped to the stands, while others stood their ground, drawing praise from the chief minister for their "true act of patriotism". In her speech, Gupta pledged to rejuvenate the Yamuna river, create world-class infrastructure, free the city from filth, corruption, and red tape, and launch Rs five Atal Canteens' for the needy. She also announced a welfare board for gig workers and promised a 'pucca' house for every slum resident. "I want to extend my heartfelt respect to our brave soldiers, to the children, to the brothers and sisters here, who have shown such strength and dedication even in this heavy rain," she said, before making her way into the sodden field to thank them personally.
