Firefighters tackle blaze at industrial unit
Firefighters have been working through the night to tackle a blaze at a large industrial unit.
The fire broke out on Adelaide Street, Bolton, just before 21:50 BST on Thursday, with eight fire engines attending along with the aerial unit, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said.
Billowing smoke could be seen across the town but crews have managed to contain the large fire.
They are making "good progress" and are dampening down the area, GMFRS said.
St Helen's Road has been closed in both directions
Dan Perager, GMFRS Duty Group Manager, said: "Our crews worked hard to contain this incident to the building affected and to bring the fire under control.
"Firefighters have worked throughout the night and we continue to make very good progress to fully extinguish the fire."
Specialist appliances including the Aerial Unit and Scorpion and Turntable Ladder were called to the incident, he added.

An advert van erupted into flames on a street in Tameside on Tuesday evening (June 3). Fire crews taped off Old Street after the blaze broke out at around 8.45pm. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "At around 8:45pm this evening (Tuesday, 3rd June), firefighters were called to reports of a vehicle fire on Old Street in Tameside. 'One fire engine from Stalybridge fire stations quickly arrived at the scene, which involved a van on fire. Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire and make the area safe. Smoke sent billowing across area after 'scary' fire breaks out at house
Smoke was sent billowing across part of Tameside this afternoon after a fire broke out at a house. Fire crews raced to Mottram Road in Stalybridge after the blaze broke out, shortly after midday. The patio door of the property went up in flames, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue (GMRS) said. They said it 'quickly caught fire' and 'got large immediately.' A neighbour with a hose helped douse water on it before firefighters arrived they said, adding it was 'very scary.' A GMFRS spokesperson said: 'At around 12.05pm today (Saturday 31 May), four fire engines from Stalybridge, Mossley, Hyde and Hollins fire stations attended a house fire involving a patio door on Mottram Road, Stalybridge. 'Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus arrived quickly one hose reel, one short extension ladder, a gas monitor and thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire and make the area safe. Primary school closed today following major fire nearby
A primary school has been closed today, May 23, after a major fire nearby. The Olive Tree Primary School is closed after the blaze, which took place on an industrial estate adjacent to it. A receptionist at the school confirmed to The Bolton News that the school is closed today, and that remote classes will be running. Parents and children could also be seen being turned away from the entrance on Adelaide Street this morning. This comes after the large fire, which took place at an industrial unit off the street. Eight fire engines alongside specialist appliances including the Aerial Unit, Scorpion and Turntable Ladder were called to the incident. St Helens Road was closed in both directions while crews worked alongside partners to contain the large fire which produced a lot of smoke. Closures remain in place this morning as firefighters continue to dampen down the area.
