Success Story: Meet IFS Shreya Tyagi, Who Cracked UPSC Four Times
IFS Shreya Tyagi achieved the All India Rank 31 in her fourth attempt at UPSC CSE, thereby securing her place in the Indian Foreign Service (IFS).
The Civil Services Examination, conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), is regarded as one of the toughest exams globally, not just in India. Meet IFS Shreya Tyagi, who cracked this exam, not once or twice but four times.
Hailing from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, Shreya Tyagi has always excelled academically, scoring 90 per cent in high school and an 'A' grade in intermediate. She graduated from Delhi University and completed her post-graduation from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
Her father, Sudhir Kumar Tyagi, is an officer in the State Bank of India (SBI).
Cracked UPSC Exam 4 Times In A Row
After her post-graduation, Shreya decided to tackle the civil services exam with full commitment. She studied diligently, putting in long hours to achieve her goal. Her first attempt in 2021 resulted in a fourth rank in the reserve list, leading to her selection in the Commerce Service. However, she was not content with this post and decided to try again. In 2022, she secured the All India 319th rank and was selected for the Indian Defence Accounts Service.
In 2023, Shreya appeared for the exam a third time, improving her rank to 123rd and getting selected for the Department of Personnel and Training. Still not satisfied, she took the exam once more and achieved the All India Rank 31 in her fourth attempt, securing her place in the Indian Foreign Service (IFS). Despite being offered the prestigious IAS service, Shreya followed her dream to become an IFS officer.
In an interview, Shreya shared that she studied for about 8 to 9 hours daily for the civil services examination. Additionally, she allocated time to relax, which enhanced her concentration and overall performance. To manage exam stress, she included hobbies like cooking and travelling in her routine.
Shreya emphasised the importance of mock tests to gauge the level of the examination. These practice tests helped her identify areas needing improvement, allowing her to focus on overcoming her weaknesses.
