Tuesday's 88-71 win over the Connecticut Sun was memorable for the Indiana Fever for a few reasons, especially since it put the team in the Commissioner's Cup championship game against the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday, July 1 at 8 p.m. on Amazon Prime Video.
However, what most fans will remember about the game is the melees that happened in the third and fourth quarters, centered around Fever star Caitlin Clark.
Things got tense in the third when Sun guard Jacy Sheldon poked Clark in the eye as she was backing her up and muscling her way to the basket. Seconds later, Sun guard Marina Mabrey charged in and shoved Clark to the floor, prompting several foul calls.
Clark was hit with a technical for shoving Sheldon after the eye poke. Conversely, Sheldon was assessed a flagrant for poking Clark in the eye, and both Mabrey and Tina Charles were hit with technical fouls as well for their involvement.

Cunningham seemingly wasn't satisfied with how the Clark situation was handled, and she later took matters into her own hands in the final minute of the game when she fouled Sheldon hard, leading to her ejection and a benches-clearing scuffle under the basket.

Fever fans applauded Cunningham for retaliating against Sheldon, especially since the beating Clark has taken this season has been a highly debated topic on social media.
Those same fans showed their appreciation for the 28-year-old standing up for her teammate by buying out every single one of Cunningham's jerseys on the WNBA store, which is operated by Fanatics.

As of Wednesday afternoon, all adult sizes were sold out, and the only Cunningham jerseys fans could purchase were youth sizes.
Fever fans took to social media to enjoy their handiwork.
"Y'all can't say that that fan base doesn't put their money where their mouth is 😂," one fan wrote.
"The fans understood the assignment 👏," another fan added.
"I tried to buy one this morning multiple sites are out of stock!! Love her," one user noted.
"Just like that she became a favorite," remarked one fan.
Cunningham scored five points and logged seven rebounds, an assist, and a steal before being ejected. Injuries have limited her this season, as she's played in just six of Indiana's 11 games.

Sophie Cunningham starts fight in defense of Caitlin Clark vs. Connecticut

The Indiana Fever are once again at the center of the WNBA after two scuffles broke out against the Connecticut Sun in Indianapolis on June 17. It all started when Sun guard Jacy Sheldon poked Fever guard Caitlin Clark in the eye while Clark was trying to pass the ball in the third quarter. Clark reacted immediately by grabbing her face and turning back to Sheldon. The two shoved each other as their teammates ran in. Advertisement Sun guard Marina Mabrey ran into the scrum and knocked Clark to the ground. Sheldon initially received a common foul, but it was upgraded to a flagrant 1 after review. Officials assessed technicals to Clark, Tina Charles and Mabrey. Cunningham, who joined the Fever this season via trade with the Phoenix Mercury, instigated another scuffle later in the game against Sheldon. Cunningham grabbed Sheldon while she was going up for a layup. Sheldon fell to the ground, but got up and immediately rushed Cunningham. Sun guard Lindsay Allen also rushed Cunningham, and the fight spilled over into the fans on the baseline as Cunningham pulled Sheldon's hair. Cunningham was ejected with a flagrant 2 foul. Allen and Sheldon were both ejected with technicals for fighting. Advertisement The game ended with six technical fouls, three ejections and two flagrant fouls. Cunningham's involvement against the Sun gained the support from Fever fans in the arena and online. While Cunningham grabbed Sheldon's head, the arena chanted "Sophie" over and over. Advertisement During the third quarter of the Fever-Sun game, Jacy Sheldon and Caitlin Clark exchanged words after a hard foul. Marina Mabrey then stepped in and shoved Clark to the ground. Obviously, that didn't sit well with the fans at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Cunningham retaliated by bringing Sheldon to the ground with a hard foul during the final minute of regulation. After reviewing this play, the referees gave Cunningham a flagrant-2 foul and ejected her from the game. Sun head coach Rachid Meziane couldn't wait to slam Cunningham for her hard foul on Sheldon. He called it a "stupid" and "disrespectful" move during his postgame press conference. "When you are winning a game by 17 points and you doing this stupid foul, this is just disrespectful," Meziane told reporters. "I don't know how Jacy and Lindsay [got] rejected from the game when they did nothing."
