John Abraham Wraps Intense Scenes For Rakesh Maria Biopic, Film Eyes 2026 Release
John Abraham is currently immersed in the shoot of an intense crime drama based on former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria's life. The project, directed by Rohit Shetty, marks their first collaboration and is reportedly being envisioned as a grounded police procedural, distinct from Shetty's signature high-octane cop entertainers. According to a new report, the film is on track for a 2026 release.
Mid-Day reports that filming initially began in South Mumbai to capture the city's authentic atmosphere. However, production has now moved to a controlled environment at Ellora Studios in Mira Road, where a police station set has been erected. Here, John is said to be shooting pivotal interrogation scenes linked to several high-profile investigations led by Maria during his tenure.
A source told the publication, 'The South Mumbai portions gave the real-world texture to the story. Now, we've shifted to a more controlled set-up. Unlike Rohit's past cop action movies, this one is being mounted as a gritty procedural drama. We are filming the interrogation scenes of the many high-profile investigations that Maria headed."
Daily production reportedly involves a crew of 50 to 100 people. The source added that the film will feature five elaborate action sequences, all likely to be shot toward the end of August. 'The post-production will begin soon. Rohit is approaching this one differently. It's not just an action spectacle; it will be a deep dive into the mind of a man who faced some of Mumbai's darkest chapters," the insider explained.
John Abraham had earlier confirmed the collaboration in an interview with Pinkvilla, revealing that the film is an adaptation of Rakesh Maria's autobiography Let Me Say It Now. 'The subject we're talking about is a banger that'll blow people away. It's not just about two people collaborating; it's also about the subject, and that's unbelievable," he had said.
The film tells the story of Mumbai's toughest crime cases through the eyes of one of its most respected police officers.
