Still Clinging to DVDs? Some Warner Bros. Discs Have Started Rotting Away
If you're still hanging on to your physical DVD collection, you could be in for a nasty surprise.
Many DVDs manufactured by Warner Bros. between 2006 and 2008 have been hit by an issue known as "laser rot," where DVDs simply stop working due to a rotting of the layers, an investigation by movie review site JoBlo reveals. So far, it doesn't seem like Blu-ray discs or HD-DVD are affected.
JoBlo highlights some of Warner Bros.' portfolio, including its Looney Tunes Collections or its portfolio of 30s, 40s, and 50s Hollywood classics, which were never transferred to newer formats like Blu-ray, meaning they could run the risk of disappearing without a trace.
Though collectors have noted the problem in recent years, Warner Bros. recently acknowledged the issue following JoBlo's report and has offered to replace the impacted DVDs—but only under certain conditions.
"Where possible, the defective discs have been replaced with the same title," read the official statement. "However, as some of the affected titles are no longer in print or the rights have expired, consumers have been offered an exchange for a title of like-value."

The era of malfunctioning discs may well be nearing an end anyway. Many of the largest home entertainment chains in the US have already decided to cut or severely limit the number of DVDs they stock. Best Buy made the leap to stop stocking DVDs altogether in 2024, while Netflix shuttered its DVD business in 2023 after almost 30 years.

That doesn't necessarily mean we're getting a mindless, smashing machine, but it does strongly hint at the return of the more dangerous, less-controlled side of the character. Whether this is a temporary transformation or something that builds toward the rumored World War Hulk project is anyone's guess, but either way it sounds like things are going to get explosive with the character. While Spider-Man: Brand New Day centers on Tom Holland's Peter Parker, the addition of Hulk, and possibly a showdown between the two, is more than enough to get fans hyped. Throw in Michael Mando as Mac Gargan aka The Scorpion , Liza Colón-Zayas and Sadie Sink, in a mystery roles, and returning characters MJ and Ned played by Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, and the film is shaping up to be packed with interesting characters. There's also ongoing speculation about new characters from the Brand New Day comic arc, like Carlie Cooper or Lily Hollister (aka Menace), possibly making their debut. Production has officially kicked off. Holland recently shared some behind-the-scenes excitement: "It's day one — my fourth-ever day one on Spider-Man. You know, it's funny. Putting the suit on, it feels different this time, somehow. 'It's also the first time we've ever had fans on set for day one, so it's really exciting to share this with them. We've got some familiar faces on set. You know, I'm just going to do my best, hopefully get it right. No pressure." Marvel Studios will release Spider-Man: Brand New Day in theaters on July 31, 2026.

Then & Now: Keri Hilson Reflects On Mid-2000s Reign And Long-Awaited Comeback
Keri Hilson may have spent 15 years out of the spotlight, but that doesn't diminish her musical legacy. However, we can't fully understand how we got to her grand return after all this time without looking back at her reign and realizing how Hilson grew to such prominence before backing away from the limelight. It all began with her 2009 debut single, 'Energy,' which served as the lead single from her debut album, In A Perfect World…. 'That was the song that they chose to come first,' she explained. Though never specifically naming who made the choice, the visual for the critically acclaimed record was directed by Melina Matsoukas. It was the video that stood out most. 'Halle Berry was our inspiration for the boxing scene stuff and some of the fashion choices […] I think we nailed it.' Despite that moment being more of a blur, the most vivid memories Hilson has from her early days stem from her time working with Kanye West. 'I had Kanye as my leading man in the 'Make Love' video. It was just a teaser […] He walked up to me during filming and at some point off-screen, but he said, 'So how's your album going?' Just two artists talking. And I say, 'It's going great, but the only thing missing is you,'' she recalled. Admittedly, the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter felt she was 'on a cliff for a good four seconds'— since she assumed he'd decline her proposition. Much to her surprise, West replied, 'Well, why can't I be on it? What's the issue? I'll do a verse. I'd love to.' The downside to his immediate yes was that her album was being mastered at the same time, but they stopped for Ye. 'I didn't know if [he] was really going to come back to do the verse,' Hilson confessed, but sure enough, he showed up. Initially, she thought he'd throw a verse onto 'Alienated,' but he ended up making 'an incredibly long verse on 'Knock You Down.'' Hilson admitted, 'We had to chop it up, and he was pissed. Nonetheless, she did tease that she may release the full version now. 'I probably could. I probably should. I break rules now,' she quipped before praising Ye's genius. 'Kanye is a brilliant, brilliant artist. He's a brilliant musician. He's good at what he does. What I like about brilliance is that you're unafraid […] and genius comes with a certain…confidence.' Hilson noted that at the beginning of her career, there was 'a lot going on' and 'it was nonstop.' She gleefully reminisced on how 'Pretty Girl Rock' was 'almost entirely' Ne-Yo's 'brainchild,' how she somewhat freestyled 'Slow Dance'— later likening it to Prince's 'Adore' — and how the magic of 'Superhuman' came to be. SUPERMAN Director James Gunn Reveals "Complicated" but Kind Reason Why the Film Is Being Released Digitally So Soon — GeekTyrant
Fans were surprised by the news that Superman is getting a digital release that is just barely beyond the film's one month theatrical release date. While many are excited to be able to watch it again, or for the first time, in the comfort of their own home, the movie's release will likely cut into the profit of the box office sales. Not by much, but enough for a film this big, which is an unusual move from the studio. Director James Gunn addressed the surprising move in a recent interview with Screen Rant, where he explained: "Well, it's very complicated, but the truth is it is because of Peacemaker. I originally thought Peacemaker was going to be coming out next month. There was a lot of things that are beyond our control, so that Peacemaker is coming out now. At the end of the day, I wanted everyone to be able to see Superman that wanted to, even those people who couldn't get to a theater before Peacemaker. And that's really the reason for it." I think that's very cool of Gunn to consider the fans when making this decision. If his content is meant to be viewed in a certain order, it's nice that he isn't asking people to wait, but is instead making everything accessible. Superman will be available to watch digitally starting today, and Peacemaker season 2 starts on August 21st.
