Palestinian kidnap case: Victim found bound with cable ties in Hulu Langat
ASP Mohamad Jazlan Sharif, now with the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters, testified about the September 29, 2022 operation.
He stated that two suspects fled the chalet room but were apprehended after a brief struggle.
Inside the room, officers discovered the victim restrained and immediately freed him.
The victim's identification confirmed he was a Palestinian national.
Eight individuals are on trial for the kidnapping, including Tengku Arif Bongsu Tengku Hamid and Mohamad Naziree Mustapha.
Police also raided an adjacent room, finding three more suspects and 36 cable ties in a plastic bag.
The operation followed the earlier arrest of Mohamad Norakmal Hassan, linked to the same case.
Six others previously pleaded guilty and received five-year jail sentences for abducting the victim.
The current trial involves charges under the Kidnapping Act 1961, carrying 30 to 40 years' imprisonment if convicted.
Three accused face additional money laundering charges involving over RM250,000.
The trial before Judge K. Muniandy resumes on August 12. - Bernama

KOTA BHARU: Two men and their mother have been detained in connection with the seizure of 35kg of compressed cannabis and a pistol in a raid at a house in Kampung But, Ketereh here on Tuesday (Aug 5). "The men tested positive for methamphetamine and ketamine while their mother tested negative," he said, adding that all suspects have been remanded for seven days starting Aug 6. In a separate case, Mohd Yusoff said the General Operations Force (GOF) Battalion 7 seized a revolver, 30 live bullets and a casing from a Thai couple at a house in Pengkalan Kubor on July 25. The married couple, aged 40 and 30, did not possess a valid firearms licence and had entered Malaysia illegally. He said they were detained. – Bernama

Four street racing daredevils nabbed in pre-dawn highway operation
ISKANDAR PUTERI: Four motorcyclists performing dangerous "Superman" stunts on the Second Link expressway were arrested in a police operation early today. District police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Kumarasan said the motorcyclists aged between 18 and 25 were detained at Km15 of the Second Link expressway heading towards Gelang Patah, near Taman Nusabayu. "Police mounted surveillance following public tip-offs on the presence of motorcyclists frequently creating a ruckus while allegedly racing against each other," he said in a statement today. Kumarasan said their actions not only endangered themselves and other road users, but were also a pointless display that will be met with firm police action. He urged parents and guardians to monitor their children's movements, especially those riding motorcycles in the wee hours of the morning or late night. The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a jail term of up to five years and a maximum fine of RM15,000 upon conviction. He added that district traffic enforcement will continue operations to crack down on street racers who persist in causing danger and nuisance to road users and residents. Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, Kumarasan said two men were killed in separate motorcycle crashes last night and early this morning. In the first accident at 8.30pm yesterday, a 20-year-old motorcyclist rammed into the rear of a 4x4, along Jalan Nusa Perintis towards Nusantara here. The victim suffered injuries to his right arm and internal injuries and was pronounced dead at the the second case, at 3am, another motorcyclist was killed in an accident on Lebuh Nusajaya heading towards Gelang Patah. "The 20-year-old motorcyclist had moved to the right lane to make a U-turn when he was hit from behind by a car, which was travelling straight in the same lane. "The victim was flung onto the car's windscreen and died on the spot from severe head injuries," he said. Ex-Perak coach Teong Kim awarded RM1.04mil in unfair dismissal case
PETALING JAYA: Former Perak coach Datuk Lim Teong Kim has won his unfair dismissal case against Perak FC Sdn Bhd, with the club ordered to pay him RM1.04mil in compensation. Industrial Court chairman D. Paramalingam said the award was based on the remaining 16 months of Teong Kim's two-year contract, which was terminated on May 24, 2023, just eight months into his tenure. The 61-year-old was earning RM65,000 a month and the court ruled that Perak FC's decision to sack him mid-season over poor results was "premature and unjustified". Paramalingam noted that the club's finances were already under strain due to its "dwindling fortunes" even before Teong Kim took charge and that the allegations of misconduct levelled against him were not serious enough to warrant termination. Teong Kim, who earned 60 caps playing for Malaysia from 1982 to 1996, boasts more than two decades of coaching experience. He spent 12 years with Bayern Munich's youth set-up from 2000 to 2012 and later served as the head of Malaysia's National Football Development Programme and coach of the national Under-16 squad.
