Hlongwane hails ‘fantastic feeling' after scoring for Chiefs

Chiefs' young striker Naledi Hlongwane was ecstatic after scoring the winner for Amakhosi in their 1-0 friendly win over Dutch Eredivisie side PEC Zwolle on Tuesday.
Chiefs' young talent
The 19 year-old was given his first professional contract by Chiefs in April and is a part of Nasreddine Nabi's squad currently in camp in the Netherlands ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Hlongwane got his opportunity on Tuesday following an injury to Chiefs' new Portuguese striker Flavio Da Silva.
And he made the most of it by netting in the 56th minute, slotting home after the Zwolle 'keeper had parried Mduduzi Shabalala's effort.
It was Chiefs' first win of their training camp, after losing their previous three training matches.
'We have a great understanding, as we basically grew up together,' Hlongwane told the Chiefs official website on his relationship with Shabalala.
'So, I know exactly what run to make, depending on the situation, and 'Shabba' knows what I will do.
'This time he decided to shoot at goal. As a striker, you know that you might only get one chance to score during a match, that's when you have to be ready. So, I ran towards the goalkeeper, hoping that the ball would bounce back into the field from him.
One more match in the Netherlands
'And that's how it happened. Scoring the goal was a fantastic feeling!'

Chiefs will play their final training match in the Netherlands against FC Twente on Wednesday. Kick off is at 7pm.

Verstappen ends speculation, confirms Red Bull stay for next season
Four-times Formula One world champion Max Verstappen has ended speculation about a move to Mercedes next season by confirming for the first time on Thursday that he will race on with Red Bull. "I think it's time to stop all the rumours. For me, it was always quite clear that I was staying," the Dutch driver told reporters ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix. "And that was the general feeling in the team because we are always in discussion about what we could do with the car and when you're not staying you stop talking about these kind of things. And I never did." Formula One starts a new engine era next year in a major shake-up that could change the pecking order, with Mercedes expected to lead the way while Red Bull are making their own power unit after a split with Honda. Reigning champion Verstappen has known break clauses in his contract but they have not been triggered, with the 27-year-old third in the standings at the mid-point and with two wins from 13 races. It was widely accepted in Formula One that Verstappen would be staying, with the rumour-mill already turning to a possible exit from Red Bull in 2027 with performance clauses again applying next year. Verstappen otherwise has a Red Bull contract that runs through 2028. The sacking of Christian Horner this month as Red Bull team boss was also widely seen as another step by the energy drink company to convince the sport's most sought-after driver to stay with them. "Some people just like to stir the pot, some people just like to create drama. But, for me, it's always been quite clear," said Verstappen. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said last week that retaining his current lineup of George Russell and Italian Kimi Antonelli was a priority. Russell told reporters separately at the Hungaroring that he was sure to be racing for Mercedes next year but nothing would be signed until after the August break, which follows the Hungarian race. While Russell's current deal expires at the end of the year, he has been under a management contract with Mercedes since he was 16 – meaning his employers are effectively negotiating with themselves. "Conversations have started but we are now heading into the summer break," said Russell. "Toto and I have spoken a lot this week but we haven't spoken once about the contract because we're both trying to solve the car's performance and get the team in the right place. "And I personally want to go into the summer break and enjoy the only two weeks off I have in the year and I don't want to be thinking about contracts," he added. "There isn't really a major time pressure now from my side, nor from Mercedes' side."

The duo, who were relegated from the Motsepe Foundation Championship with Cape Town Spurs last season, have been linked with a move to Naturena since the season ended. Velebayi is someone Chiefs have been tracking for over a year now. They almost signed him soon after Spurs were relegated from the top flight, but they couldn't get the deal done. With Cape Town Spurs no longer in the professional ranks of South African football, it was thought the deal to sign them would be easy for Amakhosi. However, the Urban Warriors have stood firm in negotiations and made it clear they won't part ways easily. After Chiefs were on the verge of signing them for free, Spurs threatened legal action. As the club is going through a major rebuilding phase, losing out on two of the brightest prospects in South African football – when they had the inside track for so long – could represent a major missed opportunity. For a team desperate to inject youth and long-term potential into their squad, missing out on Velebayi and Baartman would be a significant setback. Both players offer something Chiefs currently lack – raw talent, hunger, and the versatility to grow into key assets over time. Velebayi, a dynamic winger with excellent close control and the ability to take on defenders, fits the profile of the kind of player Chiefs fans have been crying out for. Baartman, meanwhile, is a highly rated striker with good movement and finishing instincts – attributes that could be sharpened under the right coaching setup.
