ABVP's striking success lay in its winning of two of the five seats in the School of Social Sciences. The organisation has won here for the first time in 25 years, breaking into a traditionally Left-leaning stronghold. The RSS-backed outfit also won two positions in the School of International Studies. The AISA-DSF alliance secured seven seats, and the SFI-Ambedkarites alliance won five seats.
Counting of votes for the positions of president, vice-president, secretary, and joint secretary is on. The result is expected on April 28.
The impact of fragmentation of the Left-leaning student organisations was evident in the results. It allowed ABVP a clean sweep in several centres. The outfit couldn't breach the Left stronghold in the School of Language though, failing to win any of the six councillor positions. These were claimed by Left organisations.
ABVP secured one out of two seats in the School of Biotechnology, the one seat in the Special Centre for Molecular Medicine, one out of two in the School of Computational and Integrative Science, two out of three in the School of Computer and System Science, a clean sweep of all four seats in the School of Engineering, the one seat in the Special Centre for Nanoscience, all three in the School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies, both in the Amalgamated Centre, one out of two in the School of Environmental Science, the sole seat in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee School of Management and Entrepreneurship, and two out of three in the School of Physical Science.
The Students' Federation of India (SFI), All India Students Federation (AISF), Birsa Ambedkar Phule Students Association (BAPSA), and Progressive Students Association (PSA) panel won five seats. These includes one in Arts and Aesthetics by SFI, one in the School of Biotechnology by SFI, one in the Centre for Law and Governance by BAPSA, and one in the School of Language by SFI. All India Students Association (AISA)-Democratic Students Federation (DSF) won seven councillor seats, including three in the School of Language and Culture Studies, two in the School of Social Sciences, one in SIS, and one in the School of Arts and Aesthetics.

Mevani attacks BJP over atrocities on Dalits, weaker sections in Gujarat
Congress's Vadgam MLA Jignesh Mevani on Saturday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah's silence on alleged incidents of atrocities against Dalits, adivasis and other weaker sections in Gujarat, and announced that the party will hit the streets to raise the issue. Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters in the Capital, Mevani accused the PM, the Home Minister and the RSS of 'putting the values of Manusmriti above the Constitution'. Citing the low conviction rate in cases of atrocities on Dalits, Mevani said at the national level, this figure is 30-35%, but in Gujarat it is only 3-5%, which means 95% of the culprits in the state go scot-free. The Congress leader told reporters that several incidents of Dalit atrocities have been reported from Gujarat such as the murder of a 19-year-old Dalit youth in Amreli, the alleged setting ablaze of a Dalit senior citizen in Patan and the alleged gangrape of a Dalit girl in which BJP members are alleged to have been involved. 'The Congress is preparing to launch a massive demonstration in August-September against atrocities being afflicted on Dalits, adivasis and those from the weakened sections in Gujarat,' he announced.

Amid Donald Trump-Elon Musk public feud, a ‘truth' from the crash of Truth Social
The past few days have been nothing but a roller coaster ride as the public and politicians alike witnessed the growing feud between President Donald Trump and his one-time billionaire ally, Elon Musk. The buzz was so much so that Trump's Truth Social network crashed amid the online war of words on June 6 and spilt the biggest "truth" instead. The error screen that appeared on Trump's Truth Social relayed the message that there were "no truths" to be found on the platform. The fallout began on Tuesday when Musk, who left the Department of Government Efficiency to focus on his EV-making company Tesla, denounced Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act over concerns that it could add approximately $3 trillion to the federal deficit over the next 10 years. He had described the GOP-backed tax cuts and spending bill as a "disgusting abomination". Later, Trump said that he was "very disappointed" after his former ally and top donor expressed criticism over his "big, beautiful" spending bill before Congress. "I'm very disappointed in Elon. I have helped Elon a lot," the President said. Musk responded to Trump's remarks, and the two traded insults over social media back and forth. While Trump hinted at potential cuts against Musk's companies, the Tesla CEO claimed that the President was in the controversial Epstein files. An allegation post that he later deleted. Trump on Saturday again warned Musk of "serious consequences" if the tech billionaire went on to fund democratic candidates to run against Republicans who vote in favour of his tax cuts and spending bill. "He'll have to pay very serious consequences if he does that," he added. Trump also dismissed any ideas of mending the relations with Musk after their recent public feud. Elon Musk was one of the biggest Trump supporters during the 2024 presidential campaign. He was also the biggest donor to the Trump campaign, with a whopping $300 million. The Tesla CEO claimed that the Republican leader would not have won the 2024 election without his backing. The public feud brought unprecedented traffic to Trump's Truth Social platform, resulting in its crash and leaving followers to scramble to track the developing tiff. As per DownDetector, which was cited by Comic Sands, traffic on the Truth Social platform witnessed a crazy spike. Once the massive traffic led to the crash of Trump's page, users could see this message: "No Truths. When this user composes a Truth, or ReTruths, you will see it here." Several users took to X to point at the revealed "truth" about Trump. One user said, "Truth Social crashed, leaving this actual truth behind." "Truth Social has crashed from the traffic surge and in so doing accidentally created a hauntingly poignant image," another quipped. "Finally, something honest about Trump," wrote another user on X.

Ex-min Netam switches stand on delisting of tribals, questions Cong
Raipur: Former Union minister and senior tribal leader Arvind Netam after attending a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh ( ) event in Nagpur, said that the visit offered him a new perspective on the Sangh's inner workings. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Speaking to the mediapersons on Saturday in Raipur, Netam said he discussed measures to reduce the ideological distance with tribal people. Netam also thanked RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat for inviting him. Netam announced a change in his position on the issue of delisting, which refers to the removal of individuals from the Scheduled Tribe list if they convert to another religion. He said that although he once opposed delisting, he "now supports it as a way to check forced or induced religious conversions among tribal people". Responding to the criticism from Congress MP Deepak Baij, who questioned Netam's growing proximity to the RSS, Netam hit back by asking whether Baij himself had "converted to Christianity". Netam further challenged the Congress party to clearly state its position on religious conversions. He brought up the protection of tribal land, forests, and water resources as another major concern. He argued that land acquisition for industrial use must not result in the permanent loss of tribal-land ownership. Instead, he suggested that such land be provided on lease, allowing tribal families to retain their rights and connection to their land.
