Udinese lose both first choice goalkeepers to serious injury
Udinese are forced to deal with an unexpected crisis, as both their first two goalkeepers have suffered serious injuries.
The Friulani are trying to stay in the top half of the table following a decent start to the season under coach Kosta Runjaic.
It is however becoming increasingly tricky due to the number of injuries the club has had to handle.
Nowhere is that more evident than in goal, where primary pick Maduka Okoye was ruled out by a serious wrist injury at the start of December 2024.
He is not expected back on the field until mid-April, having undergone surgery for the torn ligament in his right wrist.
Okoye had been replaced by Razvan Sava for almost three months, but now he too is ruled out by an injury.
Udinese announced this afternoon that Sava has fractured the little finger on his right hand and will go under the knife in Rome on Saturday.
Now their only choices are 39-year-old Daniele Padelli or 21-year-old Edoardo Piana.
Padelli had experience at the likes of Inter, Torino, Sampdoria and Liverpool, but has not played a competitive match since October 2022.
That was Udinese's 3-2 Coppa Italia defeat to Monza.

Inter Getting Prepared Should Star Midfielder Want Out
Hakan Calhanoglu is reflecting on his Inter future following the departure of Simone Inzaghi. Like the coach, he has large offers from Saudi Arabia, and he hasn't outright rejected them, Mediaset informs. The Turk renewed his contract two years ago, and it expires in 2027. He's one of the highest-paid players in the squad. The Nerazzurri management will leave the decision up to him. Considering his age and the fact that he joined as a free agent, his sale would generate an unexpectedly big 'plusvalenza'. On the other hand, they'd have to find a worthy replacement. Advertisement While Calhanoglu is pondering whether to leave Italy after eight years, Inter don't want to be unprepared and have kicked the tires on Nicolò Rovella. Their front office holds him in high regard, but Lazio have rebuffed every suitor since they signed him from Juventus. He has a €50M release clause in his contract. The midfielder's desires will be decisive in this case too. The Biancocelesti president Claudio Lotito quickly shot down the chatter when he was recently linked to Milan, stating that he wasn't for sale. Our Take on Inter, Calhanoglu, and Rovella The exit buzz is a yearly recurrence for the Turk, but he can perform at a high level for several more seasons in his role and with his traits, as he's not leaning much on physicality. The Nerazzurri would lose more technically than they would gain economically. It'd eventually be tough to convince Lazio. They can always move on from Kristjan Asllani, who hasn't made the leap, but it'll be telling about the star's future if they start to make waves for easier targets like Samuele Ricci or Adrian Bernabé.

Report – Inter Milan Could Pay Out Clause To Offload Italy Star This Summer
Report – Inter Milan Could Pay Out Clause To Offload Italy Star This Summer Inter Milan could pay out a clause to terminate the contract of defender Francesco Acerbi a year early this summer. This according to today's print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews. Advertisement It would be fair to say that Francesco Acerbi has been a key player for Inter Milan over the last three seasons. The Italian international has been a stalwart at the centre of the Nerazzurri's back three. Having arrived with little fanfare, Acerbi was a decisive player in two runs to the Champions League final. As well as a Serie A title victory. Moreover, Acerbi cemented his place in Inter folklore with his stoppage time equalizer in a Champions League semifinal second leg against Barcelona. (Photo by) However, there are big doubts about the place that Francesco Acerbi has in Inter's project going forward. Advertisement The former Lazio and Sassuolo defender turns 38 next season. Moreover, Acerbi has had a couple of long spells on the sidelines with muscle injuries in the last eighteen or so months. Therefore, the doubts have crept in about his reliability. Acerbi had been a player who Simone Inzaghi had specifically requested. And he certainly had his place under the 49-year-old. But with Cristian Chivu replacing Inzaghi on the Nerazzurri bench, there is a sense that it may be time to move on. As the Corriere della Sera note, Acerbi is under contract with Inter until the end of next June. However, the Nerazzurri do have an option to terminate the veteran's deal. They can pay him a clause of €500,000 and unilaterally terminate the contract. According to the Corriere della Sera, Inter are seriously considering taking advantage of this option.

Versatility, Technicality, Quality – ‘Luka Modric's Heir' Could Bump Mkhitaryan From Inter Milan Starting XI
'Luka Modric heir' Petar Sucic will be looking to fight Henrikh Mkhitaryan for a place in the Inter Milan starting eleven right away. This according to today's print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. Advertisement Midfielder Petar Sucic jointed Inter Milan this month. The Croatian international will already have a chance to catch they eye at the Club World Cup this summer. Inter had already wrapped up a deal for Sucic in February. However, he stayed at Dinamo Zagreb until the end of the season. And as Tuttosport note, the rave reviews have rolled in for Sucic from his native Croatia. The 21-year-old's performances both for Dinamo and for the national team have earned him comparisons to none other than legendary midfielder Luka Modric. In particularly, Sucic's versatility has marked him out. The Croat is a physically strong player – but also not lacking in technical polish. Petar Sucic Aims To Bump Mkhitaryan From Inter Milan Starting XI Right Away SALZBURG, AUSTRIA – OCTOBER 23: Petar Sucic of GNK Dinamo passes the ball whilst under pressure from Samson Baidoo of FC Salzburg during the UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD3 match between FC Salzburg and GNK Dinamo at Stadion Salzburg on October 23, 2024 in Salzburg, Austria. (Photo by) As Tuttosport note, Petar Sucic is capable of playing just about every role in midfield. Advertisement The Croat could very well play at the base of Inter's trio, as a backup for Hakan Calhanoulglu for example. However, Sucic could also play in a box-to-box role in a midfield trio in the 3-5-2 shape Inter currently operate with. Moreover, should new Nerazzurri coach Cristian Chivu switch to a 3-4-2-1 shape, Sucic could also fill any role in that midfield setup. He has the goals and assists in his boots to play as an attacking midfielder in the final third. Therefore, reports Tuttosport, Sucic has put Henrikh Mkhitayran in particular on notice. The Armenian may finally find his place in the first-choice lineup under threat.
