Music duo reunited in stage story

Perth Now08-07-2025
Praise from an artist about their life story portrayal is no easy feat but it was bestowed on The Simon and Garfunkel Story cast when Art Garfunkel surprised them on stage in 2024 after attending a New York performance.
UK musical theatre talent Luke Hogan depicts Garfunkel alongside US performer Israel Bloodgood as Paul Simon in this blend of theatre, concert and biography, presenting the tale of how two young boys from Queens, New York become one of the world's most successful music duos.
The production follows the highs and lows, from humble beginnings to the songs and stories that shaped them, the dramatic split, solo careers and epic 1981 Central Park reunion concert.
'Art's voice is iconic,' Hogan says.

'The music they made is some of the best we've ever heard. Once we found that sound, we were so excited to share it. It's what makes this show feel so alive.'
Narration and huge projected images of 1960s photographs and film footage help to set the scene as the audience is transported to a time of poetic lyrics, haunting harmonies and cultural revolution.
Hogan and Bloodgood perform the catalogue of hits accompanied by a full band — comprising Nick Martin on bass, Harrison White on keyboards/guitar and Harry Denton on drums — including Mrs Robinson, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Homeward Bound, Scarborough Fair, The Boxer and The Sound Of Silence. 'It (the show) brings people back to their youth or reminds them of loved ones who adored this music,' Hogan says.
'The projections give the audience a clearer understanding of the story. They remind us of the era's significance.'
Bloodgood adds: 'It's like being invited into the world behind the songs, what inspired them, what they meant.'
The Simon and Garfunkel Story first toured Australia in 2016 and returns with Hogan and Bloodgood following their sell-out performance earlier this year at The London Palladium.
It is all about audience connection for this pair, who are reminded how deeply this music resonates whenever seeing people mouth the lyrics, smile or even tear up.
'I want them to be moved, to reflect, maybe even be challenged, and hopefully, we make a few new Simon and Garfunkel fans along the way,' Bloodgood says. Luke Hogan performs as Art Garfunkel and Israel Bloodgood as Paul Simon. Credit: Carsten Windhorst
'The lyrics, the melodies; they're timeless. Every time I perform a song like America or Old Friends, I discover something new.
'Singing Kathy's Song or Homeward Bound, I think of my wife and kids. Those songs are about longing. Paul Simon understood that.'
The Simon and Garfunkel Story is at His Majesty's Theatre, August 15 and 16 and Mandurah Performing Arts Centre, August 17.
Tickets at artsculturetrust.wa.gov.au (Perth) and manpac.com.au (Mandurah).

Hulk Hogan 'felt weak and embarrassed' before passing away

Hulk Hogan felt "weak" and "embarrassed" shortly before he passed away. The wrestling legend died from cardiac arrest on July 24, aged 71, and Eric Bischoff, his good friend, has now shared details of his last-ever meeting with Hogan. Speaking on the 83 Weeks with Eric Bischoff podcast, he explained: "I could tell he was weak. He sounded tired. "[Hogan] said, 'I really want to see you, but I'm kind of embarrassed for you to see me this way because I've been pretty sick.' When I look at you, I don't see the same thing you see when you look in the mirror, so f*** that, I'll be down Monday." Hogan's personality still shone through in their conversations, despite his health struggles. Eric shared: "It was work for him to have a conversation but he was the same guy." Earlier this week, Brooke Hogan took to social media to pay tribute to her dad and to reflect on their turbulent relationship. The 37-year-old star said on Instagram: "When he left this earth, it felt like part of my spirit left with him. I felt it before the news even reached us. I know he's at peace now, out of pain, and in a place as beautiful as he imagined. He used to speak about this moment with such wonder and hope. Like meeting God was the greatest championship he'd ever have." Brooke also used her post to "clear a few things up" regarding their estrangement. The realty star wrote: "It was a series of private phone calls no one will ever hear, know, or understand. My father was confiding in me about issues weighing on his heart, both personal and business. I offered to be a life raft in whatever capacity he needed. I told him he had my support. I begged him to rest, to take care of himself." Brooke and her husband, Steven Olesky, actually moved closer to the wrestler as he battled with health problems. She said: "We had been through almost 25 surgeries together, and then all of a sudden he didn't want me at surgeries…everything started getting covered in a thick veil. It was like there was a force field around him that I couldn't get through. (sic)"

Nick Hogan emotional at WWE tribute to dad Hulk Hogan

Hulk Hogan's son broke down in tears as he joined a WWE tribute to his late father on Monday (28.07.25). The wrestling legend passed away last Thursday (24.07.25) after suffering a cardiac arrest aged 71 and during this week's episode of WWE's flagship show Raw, Nick Hogan, his wife Tana Lea and a number of superstars from the organisation gathered at the beginning of the programme for a 10-bell salute in honour of the Suburban Commando star. As CM Punk, Gunther, Jey Uso, Iyo Sky and Dominik Mysterio gathered sombrely for the memorial, Nick could be seen wiping away tears as the episode, WWE's chief content officer, Paul 'Triple H' Levesque, also paid tribute to Hogan during the segment. He told the audience: "He [Hogan] captivated millions of people and inspired them around the globe. "We would not be standing here right now – all of us together – if it was not for him." On Friday's (25.07.25), WWE's episode of SmackDown also featured a 10-bell salute to the former world champion, as well as a video highlights package of Hogan's lengthy career in the ring. He wrote on Instagram: "My dad was the most incredible person I've ever known and will always be my hero. He was the most kind, loving and amazing father anybody could ask for. I feel so blessed to have had the greatest dad in the world. He was not only the best dad but also my mentor and my best friend. He always has been my best friend and I love him and miss him more than I could ever explain. "I thanked him for everything he has ever done for me and told him how much I loved him and hugged him every chance I got. I spent a lot of time with him the past few years after moving back to Florida to be closer to him and I am so grateful for those memories. They are the best moments in my life." Nick admitted that he'll miss his dad "forever". He said: "I will always remember the lessons and advice he gave me and carry on in a way that I know would make him proud. Thank you for being the best dad in the world and thank you for being my best friend. I love you so much Big Dog and I will miss you forever. (sic)"

Hulk Hogan's ex-best friend blasts late wrestler's wife

Hulk Hogan's former best friend has blasted the late wrestler's wife and friends following his death. The 71-year-old wrestling icon passed away in Florida on Thursday after paramedics were called to his home for a medical emergency. Hulk's former friend, Bubba the Love Sponge, has claimed Hogan's wife Sky Daily and some of his other friends hid the truth about his health issues. Bubba – who fell out with Hogan after a sex tape between Hogan and Bubba's then wife Heather was leaked in 2012 – said on his eponymous radio show: "I can't take away from what I've already said, and what I've already correctly predicted. But I am officially the guy that was the only one telling the truth about Hogan's physical condition. "And that has caused some people to say, 'You know what, Bubba was right.' - No, I wish to God I wasn't right, because being right means we have a dead Hulk Hogan. "I don't know if my telling the truth would be such a big deal if the people like his wife (Sky Daily), Brian Blair, Jimmy Hart, Eric Bischoff, Missy Beefcake and all the other keyboard tough guys were (calling me out). Since mid-June, Bubba had been reporting that the late star was seriously ill and had spent six weeks in the ICU. A representative for Hogan, along with Bischoff and Daily, denied Bubba's report. Hogan had been in and out of hospital in the months before his death. In June, he underwent a four-level Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion – a complex neck surgery. Sky told fans on Instagram at the time he was recovering from the "intense surgery with a long and layered healing process". She said the operation had also affected his vocal cords and required breathing and feeding tubes. Sky added: "He's healing and we're taking it one day at a time with love, strength, and patience." Speaking about his regret over their rift, Bubba told TMZ: "I'm heartbroken to hear of Terry's passing. As everyone knows we had our issues and those issues were mostly my fault. I loved him as a friend while he was with us, and will continue to love his memory as a friend going forward."
