Xbox Has a New Hollow Knight: Silksong Demo Playable at Gamescom
Silksong sounds like it will be one of the booth's biggest draws, alongside a first public outing for the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X — the third-party portable Xbox consoles also out later this year.
The Outer Worlds 2, Xbox's biggest first-party game for the rest of this year that's not Call of Duty, meanwhile gets a "theater experience", which sounds like it'll be hands-off demo.
In terms of other playable stuff, well, Obsidian's garden sequel Grounded 2 will be there, if you don't want to just play the Game Preview version at home. More excitingly, Ninja Gaiden 4 gets a first public hands-on appearance, while Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is there with an "exciting city update".
Keen to play the new Indiana Jones and the Great Circle DLC? Us too, though on the Gamescom show floor Microsoft is simply showing the base game. (It's very good but, uh, we played it last year.)
From non-Xbox studios, meanwhile, Microsoft has a long list of playable demos — including the likes of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and Borderlands 4, plus the Xbox versions of Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake Integrade.
If you're visiting Gamescom, the world's biggest video games show in terms of its public attendance, Xbox will reside in its usual home within Hall 7 of the Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany from August 21 to 24. Alternatively, keep an eye on IGN for all of our coverage direct from the show floor.
Silksong developer Team Cherry recently said that its game was on track to launch later in 2025 but before the holidays.

Apple leads surge in global tech shares after Trump tariff relief
(Reuters) -Global technology stocks advanced on Thursday in a relief rally after the latest tariff salvo from U.S. President Donald Trump largely exempted industry heavyweights from his threat to impose 100% levy on chips and semiconductors. Trump said the new tariff rate would apply to "all chips and semiconductors coming into the United States," but would not apply to companies that had made a commitment to manufacture in the U.S. or were in the process of doing so. Apple's stock rose 3.3% in premarket trading after Trump's announcement on Wednesday that the company will invest an additional $100 billion in the U.S., a move that could help it sidestep potential tariffs on iPhones. U.S.-listed chipmakers advanced broadly, with Advanced Micro Devices up 2.5%, Intel gaining 2.1% and Nvidia up 1.1%. "A major uncertainty has been removed and investors can finally move on," UBS analysts said in a note. Semiconductor manufacturing equipment supplier Applied Materials and chipmakers Texas Instruments, GlobalFoundries and Broadcom - Apple's partners in the investment effort - climbed between 0.8% and 10.1%. European chipmakers also joined the rally, with ASML, ASMI and BE Semiconductor Industries climbing about 3% each. Germany's Infineon said it could not speculate on possible semiconductor tariffs, as no details have been disclosed yet. Its shares were up 0.6%. Since stepping into the White House in January, Donald Trump has made several tariff threats, specifically on semiconductors, aimed at reshaping the supply chain of the industry and spurring domestic production. "The (100% tariff) figure fits Trump's approach of 'open high, negotiate down' and the final figure could be similar to reciprocal tariffs to limit inflation in consumer goods, given that many have chips," said Phelix Lee, senior equity analyst at Morningstar. Not everyone has come out of the latest blitz on the right side, with the Philippines and Malaysia looking to find out more details about the tariff rate. Dan Lachica, the president of the trade body for the Philippine semiconductor industry, said 70% of its electronics exports are semiconductors and the new tariff rate would be "devastating". Philippine stocks were down 0.1% after falling as much as 0.9% during the day. Malaysia's trade minister said the country has reached out to U.S. counterparts for clarity on the tariffs. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that you'll be able to spend a full day there. How do you choose from so many fine dining and casual dining options, so many different types of cuisine, and such a wide range of specialty foods? Well, we did it! Here's our super-curated organic list of 10 best places to eat in VivoCity for a foodie's day out, including must-try restaurants, cafes and casual eateries. 1. SERVUS German Burger Grill (#01-57) Hailing from the city of Munich, SERVUS German Burger Grill (formerly known as Hans Im Glück) is a popular German restaurant that specialises in gourmet grilled burgers. The rebranding happened in Nov 2024 to honour their roots while expanding their menu. With its chic and comfortable atmosphere, the restaurant is ideal for everything from lively get-togethers to quiet date nights. You'll be spoiled for choice when you peruse their menu — it consists of a wide array of juicy burgers that'll appeal to just about anyone. Each burger consists of a hefty patty served with lettuce, onions, tomatoes and their signature sauce. Helmed by the folks behind Sushi Tei, this casual eatery specialises in a wide range of affordable Japanese classics and desserts. Some Hokkaido delights you can indulge in include a variety of White Curry and various types of Ramen and Udon. Their signature Shirobuta Pork Katsu Hokkaido (S$15.10) – a hefty deep-fried pork cutlet served with creamy white gravy, is not to be missed. If you're more of a noodle person, perhaps you can go for their Hokkaido Butter Corn Hotate Ramen (S$14). Hokkaido-Ya went through a menu revamp, launching a series of tantalising rice bowls. The minimally-decorated space exudes zen vibes, complete with small tables and cushioned benches for you to enjoy your food at. The onigiri at Mr. Onigiri can be described as the compact form of a sandwich, as opposed to the triangular or circular rice balls that we're arguably more acquainted with. Some menu items you can find here include the Spam with Onigiri (Okinawa Classic)(S$5.90), Signature Melted Cheesy Crispy Chicken (S$8.90) and the outlet-exclusive Teriyaki Grilled Salmon (S$11.90). These all make for perfect snacks and perhaps even light meals when you're not feeling particularly hungry.
